DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Oftentimes in life, humans are known to overcomplicate and overthink. The idea behind this project was to illustrate a

narrative about four common moments in quotidien life in minimal terms. We focused on replicate a moment of
repleninsh, work, play, and rest.
As a part of my Design 2 course, I went to a corridor in my school to measure the spacing and apertures between the classroom entrances. This was around the time I was taking the Materials and Methods class required by our program at Valencia College which is where I was learned the basics on building codes and regulations.
It began with observing the hero’s journey taken by the main character in the renowned Japanese animated film, Spirited Away. In following along with her story as the film progressed, I developed a linear model on tracing paper. I merged the similarities between this story and the concepts I analyzed in Ryo Fuzuki’s piano composition titled “Scenery.” My ultimate findings in analyzing the two works as a unit are that they both introduce a concept of simplicity in rituals inciting growth and advancement

The story of Icarus and Daedalus illustrates the dangers of hubris and of ignoring one’s limitations, of humility and respecting an elder’s wisdom. Sophrosyne is the Greek word for a high value of character. It relates to temperance and
moderation. As one of the maxims inscribed at the Oracle of Delphi states, “Nothing in excess.”
As a part of this class, we began to understand how to materialize and develop an idea into a concept
utilizing spatial terms. Per the snippet from my sketchbook, I began with determining three themes from which I extrapolated primary, secondary, and tertiary thematic spatial terms
Primary: Experience is the greatest teacher
Secondary: Ignorance and immobility leads to our eventual demise
Tertiary: Nothing in excess
Using black spray paint on mylar paper we studied the spaces created in three different sections of the completed model.
is study of a lantern is a representation of my exploration into the digital creative world of graphic design.
I began with a series of thumbnail sketches that highlight the distinctive details of this select object. ese sketches, which were fully made by hand, allowed for a better understanding of the range in values and unique shapes that allow for this object to function properly.
Later, I utilized Adobe Illustrator to organize the details of my choosing in a concise and consumable way.
After visiting Savannah, GA we designed a layout of the town in relation to a certain event. I decided to trace the pagan roots of on of the oldest towns in the US, I developed the project utilizing four different spatial terms: fabric negative, trajectory, primary surfaces, and sequential scale
Textures:
I tested out different ways to represent my findings on the evidence of the prominence and spread of Pagan roots. I concentrated on traces of Hoodoo and the most popular Root Doctors. I also investigated the Transatlantic Slave Trade and how a lot of what is considered “modern” day paganism is derived from it.
Fabric Negative -
The relation to historical and cultural context expressed through the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Trajectory -
In mapping out the consecutive instances, I determined the path that would dictate the linear system would relate popular grave sites which have deep significance to Gullah/Geechee people.
Primary Surfaces -
This was more materialized as the grid in this map. I would utilize a linear system which signaled the popular evidence of hoodoo practices.
Sequential Scale -
The hierarchy of the layers in this map indicate not only the different timelines but in conjunction with the linear system, they also pointed to signs of Root doctors and modern-day pagan practices

Taking the concepts from the previous analysis one step further, we developed them more extensively into a baptistery design. Given that my analysis centered around the pagan
history of Savannah, it yielded a seamless corroborance. I developed two distinct designs, one in a vertical orientation and the other in a horizontal. Both models give a unique
interpretation of the spatial terms analyzed before; however, they both include four defined spaces within them: Area of solitude, Entry, Area of Preparation, and a Baptismal pool.
Something to know about my journey is that I have always been intrigued with capturing movement. An initial passion of mine has always been animation and in grade school,
I embarked on several personal studies on understand the human anamoty and how it all correlated as a system to produce what we consider natural movements. From
ballet dancers to people lounging to the sti movements of someonelate for work, I would do my best to capture the motion and feeling evoked
From a very young age I began to design my future home. Over the years the minute details have changed but the encompassing concept and feeling inspired from the space has remained the same: to provide a timeless, playful space for rejuvenation and regeneration.
