Icons Of Rock Inspire Bobby Sharp’s Latest By LIBBY CUDMORE ON FRANKLIN MOUNTAIN
F
or artist Bobby Sharp, Woodstock wasn’t just about the music. “I’m trying to capture the essence of the people, he said. “Walking down the street, hanging out by the car, you can tell that they’re beautiful, you caught this moment. It was that beauty that inspired his newest sculptures, “Woodstock ’69, a series of glass portraits based around
photographs of Woodstock performers by Rolling Stone photographer Baron Wolman. “I want to sculpt everyone who performed at Woodstock, said Sharp. “I want to do an installation, a wall 24 feet long and 10 feet tall at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. It’s a mammoth undertaking, requiring Sharp to gut his B. Sharp Gallery on Route 28 to put in a glassmaking studio, complete with a furnace capable of reaching over 2,400 Ian Austin/ OTSEGO.life degrees. Bobby Sharp’s sculptures are based on Rolling Please See BOBBY, B3 Stone photographer Baron Wolman’s images.
