Nacogdoches Main Street Downtown Sip Around Nacogdoches Main Street is excited to launch the first-ever Downtown Sip Around—a month-long competition spotlighting specialty drinks crafted by downtown restaurants. From mocktails to cocktails, each stop on the Sip Around will feature a unique beverage for guests to try and rate. Modeled after the popular Brick Street Burger Battle, this new event invites the community to sip, support local, and vote for their favorites. Stay tuned for participating locations and voting details! Nacogdoches Wine Swirl Mark your calendars—Wine Swirl 2026 is set for Saturday, April 11 in Downtown Nacogdoches! This year’s theme is Red, Wine & Blue, celebrating local flavor with a patriotic twist. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 13, and include wine samples, shopping, and bites from local restaurants. Stay tuned for ticket links and event details as we get closer to one of Main Street’s signature spring events!

Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR NACOGDOCHES BEEFSTEAK DINNER The Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation, together with Nacogdoches Historic Sites, invites you to the ninth annual Nacogdoches Beefsteak Dinner on Friday, January 23rd, at Mast Hall. This lively fundraiser draws inspiration from the beefsteak dinners of the early 1900s; gatherings known for generous servings of meat, beer, and bread, all enjoyed without plates or utensils. They were loud, lighthearted, and unforgettable, and this modern version carries that spirit forward. Proceeds support the continued preservation of the Historic Zion Hill Baptist Church. Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight. They must be purchased by 7 p.m. on January 16th and are available at the Nacogdoches CVB, the Zion Hill Baptist Church Historic Site, the C.L. Simon Recreation Center, from members of the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation, or online through Eventbrite. We hope you’ll join us! Friday Update Nacogdoches Public Library Big Read Nacogdoches returns in late January. The community-wide reading program and activities will feature the book, Fuzz by Mary Roach. Free copies of the book will be available in late January. Watch for an announcement on our social media pages! Volunteers from AARP will once again provide free tax preparation services to the public beginning February 2 through April 8. Sessions are by appointment only. Call 936-559-2970. And for the first time in many years, the library will carry a limited number of paper IRS tax forms. When they arrive, they will be near the checkout desk. The library has joined hundreds of libraries throughout Texas in the America 250 Reading Challenge to commemorate America’s 250 anniversary! Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 15 and brush in zone 11. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, eight (8) City staff members (2 Engineering, 4 Water Utilities and 2 Fire) attended the Disaster Management for Water and Wastewater Utilities course through FEMA on SFA’s campus. The course focused on threats to water and wastewater systems and ways to mitigate against and respond to them and protect these systems.

As part of the 2025 Street Paving Project, this week Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard was milled up between S. Fredonia Street and the westernmost bridge with a new asphalt surface installed.

Fire Department Do you or anyone you know need some assistance during times of an emergency event? The state of Texas presents the STEAR program. The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local emergency planners and emergency responders with additional information on the needs in their community. Texas communities use the registry information in different ways. Registering yourself in the STEAR registry DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency. Available services will vary by community.

Our new walking club has been a success. This week we had 25 participants come to walk our gym. Walking club is Monday thru Friday 8:30am-9:30am and is free. Winter walking club will run thru March. Spring will be here before we know it. Spring sport registration has begun Registration has begun for spring adult softball, and adult soccer. Spring youth volleyball registration will begin on Monday. Mark your calendars for our annual Kid Fish event held at Lakeside Park January 24th 9am-12pm. This is a free kid’s fishing tournament for ages 1-16.
