Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR NACOGDOCHES BEEFSTEAK DINNER The Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation, together with Nacogdoches Historic Sites, invites you to the ninth annual Nacogdoches Beefsteak Dinner on Friday, January 23rd, at Mast Hall. This lively fundraiser draws inspiration from the beefsteak dinners of the early 1900s; gatherings known for generous servings of meat, beer, and bread, all enjoyed without plates or utensils. They were loud, lighthearted, and unforgettable, and this modern version carries that spirit forward. Proceeds support the continued preservation of the Historic Zion Hill Baptist Church. Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight. They must be purchased by 7 p.m. on January 16th and are available at the Nacogdoches CVB, the Zion Hill Baptist Church Historic Site, the C.L. Simon Recreation Center, from members of the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation, or online through Eventbrite. We hope you’ll join us! Friday Update Nacogdoches Public Library Since its inception in 2013, downloadable eBook and eAudiobook usage through Overdrive continues to grow. There were 10,331 ebook and 13,985 eAudiobook checkouts in 2025! Our children’s program coordinator has come up with her top 10 books of 2025. The library offers books for children, teens and adults. It’s never too early to get a library card! The public library is now a member partner of Grow with Google. Grow with Google helps ensure that the opportunities created by technology are available to everyone. Since launching in 2017, Grow with Google has trained more than eight million Americans on digital skills. And through a network of more than 8,700 partner organizations–including local libraries, schools, and nonprofits– more people across the country can reach their full potential. The first workshop will be in March with more programs planned!

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 6 and brush in zone 6. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

On Monday, January 5, weather-permitting, the City's paving contractor will begin milling of the existing pavement on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard between S. Fredonia Street and the westernmost bridge on MLK, followed by a new asphalt street surface. This work will take several days to complete and access to this area will be restricted. Traffic should plan to utilize alternate routes while this work is completed. Please let me know if you have any questions.ent members, to update the city’s current zoning ordinance. City of Nacogdoches Addresses Erroneous Press Release Regarding HUD Housing Development NACOGDOCHES - The City of Nacogdoches was made aware of a supposed Nacogdoches Housing Authority press release circulating over the weekend that announces a U.S Department of Housing & Development (HUD) housing project in close proximity to Nacogdoches High School. The release stated that site clearing for the project was already underway and promoted a completion date in January of 2028. This report is false, and the City of Nacogdoches is currently investigating to determine the origin of the press release and the individual(s) responsible for creating it. No such project has been proposed for review or approval by the City of Nacogdoches within the Nacogdoches city boundaries or extraterritorial jurisdiction. The City of Nacogdoches places a high value in public trust, transparency in its information sharing processes and utilization of official city platforms and trusted news media sources to keep citizens informed.

Recreation Department Happy New Year! Start 2026 out right by working on your health and fitness. Join one of our group fitness classes, dance classes or martial arts classes. New in 2026, adult hip hop dance class on Saturdays at 1pm. Beginner Fencing is back with a focus on foil. Mark your calendars for our annual Kid Fish event held at Lakeside Park January 24th 9am-12pm. This is a free kid’s fishing tournament for ages 1-16.
