Convention & Visitor’s Bureau This week Visit Nacogdoches staff attended the Destinations Texas Annual Conference in Plano. The team won a 3rd Place Destination Excellence award in Digital Innovation! The CVB Board of Directors will meet next Thursday, September 10th at 9:00am in the Visitor Center Downstairs Basement. Next weekend is the Old Town Rig Down! Visit Nacogdoches will be running two shuttles, one from the First Baptist Church parking lot and City Recreation Center parking lot to Festival Park, and one from LaQuinta and Holiday Inn Express to Festival Park. For more information on shuttles, please follow Visit Nacogdoches on Facebook. The Visitor Center will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Nacogdoches Main Street Save the date - Wine Swirl 2027! Mark your calendars! Wine Swirl 2027 returns to Downtown Nacogdoches on Saturday, April 10, 2027. Planning is already underway for another evening of great wine, delicious food, live music, and shopping in the heart of downtown. Stay tuned for theme announcements, ticket information, and more details in the coming months. Brick Street Burger Batte The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches. From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.

Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Texas Folklife Program & Concert at Zion Hill September 11th Texas Folklife, in partnership with the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Division, will present Cruzando Caminos: Singing Spanish Poetry in the South. Cruzando Caminos, meaning “crossing paths,” brings together artists representing distinct musical traditions connected through centuries of Spanish-language verse. At the center of the program is the décima, a ten-line poetic form that originated in Spain and traveled throughout the Spanish-speaking Americas, developing new musical traditions as it moved across regions and generations. The evening will feature local artists Juan Carlos and Jeana Ureña, who will open the program, alongside Will Buckingham and Shane Lief of the Louisiana Décima Project; San Antonio-based son jarocho singer Keli Rosa; and Chilean artist Isabel Mekis. Together, the performers represent traditions spanning Texas, Louisiana, Mexico, Central America, and South America, with shared roots in the décima tradition. View flyer on next page:

The library has completed installation of its new circulation software. Customers are encouraged to bring their library card and I.D. to update their library cards. September is Library Card Sign-up Month. It’s a great time to get a new library card or update your card to access thousands of physical and digital items. Bilingual Storytime returns this Thursday at 5:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend to listen to stories and make crafts. No registration is required. The library will participate in National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 15th at 5pm. Library staff will help people register to vote or update their registration. Everyone can participate in the book character election!

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in Zone 4 and the brush route in Zone 18. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

TxDOT Update -----------------Work to widen and improve a portion of Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 2259, also known as Woden Road, in Nacogdoches will soon get underway. Nacogdoches-based contractor Drewery Construction will begin setting signs and barricades in the coming days for the project, which extends 2.5 miles southeast of the intersection of FM 2259 and State Loop (SL) 224/Southeast Stallings Drive. This safety-improvement project will widen this portion of the road to 28 feet, consisting of two 11-foot-wide lanes with three-foot wide shoulders on both sides. New center and edge-line markings will improve visibility for drivers. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2027, weather permitting. Travelers along FM 2259 should plan for delays and lane closures as work progresses. Slow down when approaching and travelling in this area. Stay alert for workers and machinery.

Teen night 4 was a success with a record 39 registrants. Teens had snacks, played board games, basketball, dodgeball, and of course the ever popular nerf battle in the Library. Our next teen night will be in the spring. Girls youth volleyball practices will begin soon. Next Saturday we will host a volleyball mindset clinic to get ready for the season. Participants will learn important skills that will enhance their season Fall adult coed soccer registration will conclude September 8th.
