Community Happenings This weekend is Parent’s Weekend at SFA, so we can expect lots of guests in town this weekend and a whole host of events going on as part of the weekend schedule! SFA Football, SFA Soccer and SFA Volleyball are all in action at home this weekend! Football takes on Northeastern State inside Homer Bryce Stadium on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., while Volleyball faces New Orleans at noon on Saturday and Soccer faces Northwestern State at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at SFA Soccer Field.

Convention & Visitor’s Bureau Nac Snack Fridays are back! We'll have food trucks on the square from 11am2pm. This weekend parents and family members of students will be in town for SFA Family Day! SFA Buses will bring students and their families to the Farmer's Market and Downtown from 9am-2pm on Saturday. It's going to be another busy weekend! Nacogdoches Main Street Brick Street Burger Batte Brick Street Burger Battle is Back! The 2026 Brick Street Burger Battle kicks off Friday, September 11th and runs through October 25th! Participating restaurants are serving up specialty burgers created just for the competition, and customers get to help decide who takes home this year’s title. Try a burger, submit your rating, and you’ll be entered for a chance to win gift cards to participating restaurants! Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Texas Folklife Concert A wonderful time was had at the Texas Folklife concert last Friday. Guests learned how culture and history shaped each artist’s musical style before enjoying beautiful vocals, skillful guitar playing, rhythmic dancing, and audience participation. Thank you to Texas Folklife and the SFA School of Music for bringing this special event to Zion Hill. Maintenance at the Durst Taylor House The Durst Taylor House was closed this week while the entrance ramp was reconstructed. Although the ramp is not original to the historic house, it is essential for providing access to visitors of all abilities. Projects like this are an important part of the behind-the-scenes work required to maintain our historic sites and keep them safe, accessible, and welcoming to the public. New Brochures at Oak Grove Cemetery New Oak Grove Cemetery brochures are now available just inside the cemetery’s main entrance. The brochure shares the cemetery’s history and introduces several people buried there who influenced Nacogdoches and Texas history. With its historic gravesites, interpretive signs, and beautiful trees, Oak Grove Cemetery is a wonderful place to experience local history. Mark your calendar for a special fall Living History Tour on Saturday, November 14, presented by Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, Inc. During the tours, historic figures will come to life to share their stories.

The library offers free computer lessons. Interested persons may book a one-on-one session(s) with library staff. Lessons are available in English or Spanish. Please call 936-559-2970 to make an appointment. The library welcomes Danielle Sells from DETCOG. Ms. Sells will present Medicare 101 & Open Enrollment. She’ll explain the different Medicare plans in time for open enrollment. This program is ideal for those approaching Medicare age or adult children. The library staff offers a fun paint party on the last Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm. All adults 19+ years are welcome and no registration is required.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush in Zones 12 & 15. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

TxDOT Update
The Raguet Street Sewer Replacement Project is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 12 barring any unforeseen delays or circumstances. This project will replace an existing sanitary sewer main in Raguet Street between Lakewood Street and Burrows Street and construction will last several months. Local traffic will be accommodated and emergency services access maintained, however lane widths will be narrowed in the work zone and thru traffic should consider alternate routes to avoid delays. Drivers should be cautious and watch for workers and traffic control devices for the duration of this construction.
RAMP CLOSURES - Nacogdoches Ramp closures at the intersection of SH 21 east and SL 224 in Nacogdoches will occur next week for maintenance operations. Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews will close ramps daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will reopen them at the conclusion of each day's work. The northbound exit from SL 224 onto SH 21 will close Monday, Sept. 28. The northbound entrance ramp will close Tuesday, Sept. 29. The southbound exit and entrance ramps will close on Wednesday, Sept. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 1 respectively. Drivers should watch for workers and stay alert when traveling near the work zones.

Lakeside Park Pond has officially been stocked with about 400 CATfish! Our newest residents have moved in, and they’re already causing quite the splash. A big thank you to Texas Parks and Wildlife! Grab your fishing pole, bring the family, and come see if you can catch one! (Make sure to follow all fishing rules and regulations.)
