Convention & Visitor’s Bureau The Old Town Rig Down is here and the streets are filling up with trucks, vendors, and visitors! The full schedule for the event can be found here. For tomorrow's concert in Festival Park, Visit Nac will have two shuttles running. One shuttle will stop at First Baptist Church and the City Rec Center, and the other shuttle will run from La Quinta and Holiday Inn Express. Both shuttles will run on a continuous route to Festival Park from 5-11pm. Find all event information at visitnacogdoches.org/events

Nacogdoches Main Street Brick Street Burger Batte Brick Street Burger Battle is Back! The 2026 Brick Street Burger Battle kicks off Friday, September 11th and runs through October 25th! Participating restaurants are serving up specialty burgers created just for the competition, and customers get to help decide who takes home this year’s title. Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Texas Folklife Program & Concert at Zion Hill September 11th Texas Folklife, in partnership with the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Division, will present Cruzando Caminos: Singing Spanish Poetry in the South. Cruzando Caminos, meaning “crossing paths,” brings together artists representing distinct musical traditions connected through centuries of Spanish-language verse. At the center of the program is the décima, a ten-line poetic form that originated in Spain and traveled throughout the Spanish-speaking Americas, developing new musical traditions as it moved across regions and generations. The evening will feature local artists Juan Carlos and Jeana Ureña, who will open the program, alongside Will Buckingham and Shane Lief of the Louisiana Décima Project; San Antonio-based son jarocho singer Keli Rosa; and Chilean artist Isabel Mekis. Together, the performers represent traditions spanning Texas, Louisiana, Mexico, Central America, and South America, with shared roots in the décima tradition. View flyer on next page:

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. It’s a great time to get a new library card or update your card to access thousands of physical and digital items. The library will participate in National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 15th at 5pm. Library staff will help people register to vote or update their registration. Everyone can participate in the book character election! Computer lessons resumed this week. Interested persons may book a one-on-one session(s) with library staff. Lessons are available in English and Spanish. Please call 936-559-2970 to make an appointment. The library received official notice of meeting all accreditation requirements set by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC). Requirements include collection size per capita, hours open to the public, funding by local government, and participation in inter-library loan services. Accreditation allows the library to participate in discount services through the TSLAC and apply for grants from TSLAC.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in Zone 14 and the brush route in Zone 19. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

TxDOT Update -----------------Work to widen and improve a portion of Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 2259, also known as Woden Road, in Nacogdoches will soon get underway. Nacogdoches-based contractor Drewery Construction will begin setting signs and barricades in the coming days for the project, which extends 2.5 miles southeast of the intersection of FM 2259 and State Loop (SL) 224/Southeast Stallings Drive. This safety-improvement project will widen this portion of the road to 28 feet, consisting of two 11-foot-wide lanes with three-foot wide shoulders on both sides. New center and edge-line markings will improve visibility for drivers. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2027, weather permitting. Travelers along FM 2259 should plan for delays and lane closures as work progresses. Slow down when approaching and travelling in this area. Stay alert for workers and machinery.
