Road work on Pecan Street north of Festival Park will continue into early next week, however one lane has been reopened for through traffic. The fall semester at SFA is just around the corner! Move-in day at the residence halls is on August 20, and fall classes will begin on August 24. We look forward to welcoming all of our SFA students back to Nacogdoches!

Animal Services Today we brought Velma to the C.L Simon Recreation Center to be the “Pet of the Week” and meet all the visitors to the rec center. Nacogdoches Main Street Save the date - Wine Swirl 2027! Mark your calendars! Wine Swirl 2027 returns to Downtown Nacogdoches on Saturday, April 10, 2027. Planning is already underway for another evening of great wine, delicious food, live music, and shopping in the heart of downtown. Stay tuned for theme announcements, ticket information, and more details in the coming months. Congratulations to our Wine Swirl Photo Contest Winner Congratulations to Celia, the winner of the 2026 Wine Swirl Photo Contest! Her photo captured the spirit of Wine Swirl, earning her two Wine & Appetizer Tickets to Wine Swirl 2027. Thank you to everyone who shared their favorite Wine Swirl memories. We look forward to creating even more unforgettable moments on April 10, 2027. Brick Street Burger Batte The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches. From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Historic Sites staff are gearing up for a busy fall season! Preparations are underway for returning programs, annual favorites, and other activities across our historic sites. Thursdays in the Garden returns to the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens in September. Designed for families and children, the program offers hands-on activities and opportunities to learn and explore in the historic gardens. Looking further ahead, the Historic Skills Fair returns to Durst-Taylor on Saturday, November 7, with demonstrations of traditional skills and trades. November will also bring back the cherished Loblolly Model Train Display at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot, a longtime holiday favorite for visitors of all ages. There will be plenty of programs and activities along the way, and staff are looking forward to a full fall season at Nacogdoches Historic Sites!

The library’s end of summer event was held August 8th. A total of 229 of people registered to track their reading and program attendance. The library held 28 programs this summer. We are very proud of our readers! The IT department installed new public computers and software for public use. The new computers have new scheduling and printing software that allows customers to submit print jobs from the public computers and from a device anywhere. Customers now have the option to pay with debit/credit card, digital pay, or cash/coins. As the library prepares to migrate to a new circulation system, customers are encouraged to contact the library to ensure their library cards are updated. Customers should bring their library cards to ensure a smooth checkout during the migration period.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in Zone 10 and the brush route in Zone 7. Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence. Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Public Works crews have completed most of the work on Pecan Street in the area north of Festival Park, and will finish the project early next week. In the meantime, one lane of Pecan has been reopened for normal traffic over the weekend. Work on Cox Street is completed and open for normal traffic. Residents with questions may direct them to oppermanc@nactx.us.

Nacogdoches County and the City of Nacogdoches are updating the Nacogdoches County and City of Nacogdoches Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP). As part of this process, the County and City's Office of Emergency Management are holding public meetings to gather community input for developing the HMAP. The next such meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Garrison City Hall in Garrison, Texas (330 South B Avenue). All residents are invited to attend and participate in the discussion.

Fall sports registration is ending. Girls youth volleyball regular registration has concluded. Late registration will be available next week. Adult coed soccer registration will continue through September 8th. Teen Night for ages 12-17 is scheduled for Friday August 28th at 6:30pm. Free to participate, must pre-register.
