Brick Street Burger Battle
The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches.
From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.

The library staff participated in the Christian Women’s Job Corps Resource Fair Participants received information about the computer classe library programs, and collection Several community organizations participated.
Super Tuesday family programs continue to be popular. This week children learned about dinosaurs and participated in craft activities. Th programs are every Tuesday at 10am.
The Humane Society of Nacogdoches County continues its Remarkable Creatures series. This week, the featured creatures were rabbits. The final program on July 31 at 10am will feature Maner the Mini Pig. st

Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in Zone 4 and the brush route in Zone 21.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Nacogdoches County and the City of Nacogdoches are updating the Nacogdoches County and City of Nacogdoches Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP or Plan) The Plan Update will address hazards that affect the area.
The goal of the Plan Update is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards through effective mitigation. Public input will help the planning team analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact.

Police Department
The Nacogdoches Police Department will host its Teen Academy on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The academy is designed to provide young people with an educational and engaging opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and public safety. The academy will be limited to 25 students. Topics covered will include law enforcement hiring practices, impaired driving, distracted driving, vaping awareness, firearm safety, cell phone and social media safety, and S.W.A.T. operations.
The Nacogdoches Police Department Teen Academy is intended to give students a firsthand look at various aspects of law enforcement while providing insight into the responsibilities, challenges, and career opportunities within the profession Students interested in participating in the Teen Academy may request an application by contacting Sergeant Brett Ayres at ayresb@nactx.us. Applications may also be picked up at the Nacogdoches Police Department, located at 312 W. Main Street. Completed applications may be submitted by email to Sergeant Ayres or returned to the Nacogdoches Police Department. Applications will be accepted until all 25 spaces have been filled.
Parks & Recreation Departments
Thanks to a generous donation from the Charles and Lois Marie Bright Foundation the Goodman Bridge, located in Pecan Park, was cleaned, sanded and painted with a new coat of antique red paint.
Charles Bright not only saved the bridge from heading the scrap yard, fully restored and installed it in Pecan Park, his foundation continues to care for the legacy of this unique landmark. Goodman Bridge is looking better than ever and back open for foot traffic!
