This week Visit Nac attended the SFA Orientation Resource Fair, providing tourist information to incoming students and their families. Visit Nac also gave bus tours of Nacogdoches during the morning and afternoon of SFA Orientation.
We are continuing our "Nac Summer Sips" event every Friday in July and August! This Friday, Home Grown Coffee will be on the square from 125pm.

CBS19 is in Nacogdoches today for their "Summer Roadtrip" series. They're featuring the Fredonia Hotel, murals in Nacogdoches, Nac Uniques Antique Store, Visit Nacogdoches, SFA, and Meadowridge Outdoors.
Lauryn Pennington from the CVB staff will be interviewed for the Visit Nac segment. The show is set to air intermittently between 5PM and 7PM on CBS19 on July 17th.

Downtown businesses will decorate their windows with patriotic displays throughout July, and the community will vote for their favorites. Explore downtown, enjoy the creativity, and help choose the winners.

Brick Street Burger Battle
The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches.
From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.

Nacogdoches Public Library
The library is now accepting applications to the Excel Online High School program, funded by a grant from Rural LISC. At the conclusion of this self-paced course, the student will earn a high school diploma. The program is free to the student. A limited number of spots are available. The library held a Puzzle Race this week. Teams raced to be the first to complete a 500 piece puzzle. The next puzzle race will be held in August.
The Nacogdoches Humane Society continues its Friday Remarkable Creatures series. This week’s event featured Hamer, the Police Dog!
The ribbon cutting for the parent workstation took place this week. This was a grant from Better Together Nacogdoches and partnership with SFASU Family Inititative. Caregivers of young children can use the workstation, that is located in the children’s department, while their children play alongside them.
Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in Zone 2 and the brush route in Zone 19.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Residents -
Progress on the 2026 Curb and Valley Gutter Project is continuing with the contractor heading to Tanglewood and Wedgewood Streets next.
Valley gutters installed on single access point streets will be constructed in halves to allow residents continued access to their homes during construction. This will restrict the intersections to one lane width for traffic on those streets. Once those halves have cured, the other halves will be completed. Traffic should be aware and watchful of these restricted access points. Thru traffic should plan alternate routes, if possible.
A valley gutter at Tanglewood Drive and University Drive will also be constructed in halves due to heavy traffic volume through that intersection, as will curb repair at the Handprints Academy driveway to allow continual access. Work is expected to take a few days at each location once construction begins.

Nacogdoches County and the City of Nacogdoches are updating the Nacogdoches County and City of Nacogdoches Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP or Plan) The Plan Update will address hazards that affect the area.
The goal of the Plan Update is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards through effective mitigation. Public input will help the planning team analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact.
