This week Visit Nac staff attended Travel & Tourism College! Director Ashley Morgan received her CTE (Certified Tourism Executive.) Natalee Dunn completed her third year, and Lauryn Pennington completed her first year. The 4-year program is held through the Texas Travel Alliance.
Visit Nac board members and interns assisted with hosting Nac Snack Friday, and SFA Orientation.

Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with Star-Spangled Storefronts!
Downtown businesses will decorate their windows with patriotic displays throughout July, and the community will vote for their favorites. Explore downtown, enjoy the creativity, and help choose the winners.

Brick Street Burger Battle
The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches.
From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.
Participating restaurants will be announced soon!
Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue joined us for Junior Engineer Days at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot.
For this week’s craft, children made their own “fire alarms,” then learned important fire safety tips and had the opportunity to explore a fire truck up close.
Thank you to Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue for helping make it such a fun and educational day!
As part of the Dollar General Summer Literacy grant, library staff went out to the baseball fields to promote library materials purchased with the grant.
The library staff also attended the Juneteenth Celebration at Festival Park. The library provided information about programs and, thanks to the Friends of the Library, gave away children’s books.
The library’s Citizenship Class had another student successfully complete the naturalization process to become a U.S. Citizen. Classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:30pm. Sessions are ongoing and students may join anytime.

Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush route with one truck in zone 11 and one in zone 20.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Simon Recreation Center, 1112 North Street Neighborhood meeting regarding ZON2026-04, a proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendment to the Future Land Use Plan that would add a Two Family Residential Mixed future land use category compatible with both Two Family and HUD-code Manufactured Home developments in designated areas of the city.
The Planning Department is currently working with an appointed subcommittee, comprised of City Council members, Planning & Zoning Commissioners, and Zoning Board of Adjustment members, to update the city’s current zoning ordinance. Story Walk Signs at Banita Creek Park
Nacogdoches Parks crew members recently installed StoryWalk signs at Banita Creek Park along the trail directly behind the playground. These signs were a partnership between the Parks and Library departments, and staff members are excited to see families enjoy this fun addition to our beautiful park. The first book installed is How Do Dinosaurs Learn to Read by Jane Yolen. Check out the signs today!
