The City of Nacogdoches will host a Capital Improvement Plan/Bond Open House inside the meeting room of the C.L Simon Recreation Center on May 12 from 3-5:00 p.m. The purpose of this open house will be to update the public on the progress of the various publicly funded bond projects underway through the city (or upcoming projects).
The Nacogdoches Scottish Highland Games will take place on Saturday, May 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center. For more information on the event, click here.

Sale on the Trail was a success! Over 200 vendors participated between Nacogdoches, TX and Natchitoches, LA despite the rain on Friday. Shopowners at the Downtown Merchant meeting said business was steady on both days
On Saturday, May 2nd, the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) hosted a kick-off event for their America 250 exhibit at the Charles Bright Visitor Center The exhibit will be up until the end of July.
Visit Nac staff continues to work on logistics and promotions for both the Blueberry Bluegrass Concert in the Park and the Texas Blueberry Festival happening June 12th-13th, 2026.

Nacogdoches Historic Sites
SFA Charter School Visit
On Monday, we welcomed the 4th grade students from the Stephen F Austin State University Charter School as part of their Texas History unit Students toured the site and explored local history through hands-on learning and discussion. It is exciting to see young learners connect classroom lessons with real historic places, and we appreciate the opportunity to support local educators in bringing history to life.
Homeschool Co-Op Volunteer Day
Tuesday brought a wonderful group of volunteers from a local homeschool co-op who dedicated their time and energy to improving the gardens. Their hard work made a noticeable difference, helping maintain the beauty of the grounds while contributing to the preservation of these historic spaces. We are extremely grateful.
Lunch Hour Learn Series
The first installment of our Lunch Hour Learn series also took place on Tuesday. The series will continue throughout the rest of May, meeting every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. The next program will focus on the restoration of the Hazle-White Building.
Cello Concert
Later that same day, we hosted a cello concert that was well attended by community members and visitors. The performance provided a beautiful musical experience within a historic setting.

Lina Burklin, cataloger and interlibary loan officer, will graduate with her M.L.I.S. from Texas Women’s University this Saturday! Lina completed the rigorous coursework while working full-time, first as a teacher, and then as a cataloger at the library. We are very proud of her!
The painting and other minor improvements have been completed. Come see the freshly painted Children’s Department!
The library will host a Clothing & Toy Swap for babies and children on Saturday, May 9 from 1-3pm. The public is welcome to bring their items early. th
Books & Banter Book Club meets Thursday, May 14 at 2pm. Adults discuss whatever books they’re reading with other readers. Everyone is welcome. No registration is necessary. th
Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 13 and the brush route in zone 9.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.
Police Department
Update on Nacogdoches Police
Officer Spencer Tutt
Officer Spencer Tutt experienced a serious medical emergency at his home on May 3, 2026. Personnel from EMS, the Fire Department, and the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to the scene, where immediate medical intervention was required.
Officer Tutt was transported to Medical Center, where he was stabilized before later being transferred to UT Tyler Medical Center for further treatment and testing.
Officer Tutt previously experienced a serious heart-related medical issue approximately one year ago that also required surgery. This most recent incident marks the second major heartrelated medical emergency he has faced.
As of May 7, Officer Tutt remains at UT Tyler Medical Center and is currently undergoing surgery to correct a heart condition. We fully expect Spencer to be released from the hospital within the next couple of days.
The Nacogdoches Police Department is extremely thankful for the overwhelming amount of prayers, support, and well wishes extended to Officer Tutt and his family during this difficult time. We ask that the community continue keeping Spencer and his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers as he continues his recovery.

Recreation Department
Corporate Challenge has concluded. City teams competed in Mud Run, Washers and 5K on Saturday. The City took 3 place in Mixed Washers. At the conclusion the City finished in 3 Place overall behind CBTX and Eaton for the Large Company Division. For the Small Company Division Drewery Construction finished in 1st place, Austin Bank is 2 place and M&S Pharmacy placed 3 overall. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped secure us the 3 place win!
