Brick Street Burger Battle
The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches.
From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.

Learning about Historic Preservation and Resources for Property Owners
This week’s lunch hour learn series featured Jessica Sowell, Community Services Dictor and Historic Preservation Officer. Jessica shared information with attendees about the 5 historic districts, what property owners in those districts should know, and what resources are available to help with preserving these historic structures.

New Little Free Libraries at the SterneHoya House and Railroad Depot
This week is “Little Free Library Week,” and our Parks staff recently replaced the Little Free Libraries at the Sterne-Hoya House and in the parking lot of the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot.
A Little Free Library is a “take a book, share a book” free book exchange that provides 24/7 access to books for readers of all ages.
There are now more than 200,000 registered Little Free Library book-sharing boxes across 128 countries worldwide.
The library staff is preparing for the summer programs. This year ’ s theme is Unearth a Story. The programs kickoff on June 6 at the library and are for all age groups. th
As part of the day’s events, the library will also host a Futbol (Soccer) Jersey Exchange in anticipation of the FIFA Men’s World Cup! Bring your jersey or other team paraphernalia to trade with our futbol enthusiasts. The event is free and no registration is required.
We’re so pleased to share in our customers’ excitement. One student took advantage of our steamer to get her graduation gown ready and another one became a new library member! It was a great week!
The library will host a Blueberry Fudge making program on Friday, June 12 to get everyone into the spirit of the Blueberry Festival. The program is free, but registration is requested. th

Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush route with one truck in zone 4 and one in zone 5.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

TxDOT Update
TxDOT Contract sealcoat work is expected to begin June 2, weather permitting, on 26 roads in the Lufkin District This is a moving operation and will require lane closures Additional details on this work can be found on the Lufkin District website.

Traffic was shifted to new lanes on May 28.
Construction of remaining lanes is ongoing.
SH 7 and CR 724 at Moral Bayou
Prime coating of the cement base on the bridges is expected on June 2.
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching law enforcement, tow trucks, utility vehicles, municipal waste trucks, emergency responders, and TxDOT vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road

Both Temple Park Splashpad (1100 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd) and Splashadoches at Maroney Park (2110 Maroney Dr) are open for the season. Hours of operation for both Splashpads are 9am-7pm. Please remember to pick up all trash around the splashpads to make sure they continue to run smoothly.
