Learning about Historic Preservation and Resources for Property Owners
This week’s lunch hour learn series featured Jessica Sowell, Community Services Dictor and Historic Preservation Officer. Jessica shared information with attendees about the 5 historic districts, what property owners in those districts should know, and what resources are available to help with preserving these historic structures.

New Little Free Libraries at the SterneHoya House and Railroad Depot
This week is “Little Free Library Week,” and our Parks staff recently replaced the Little Free Libraries at the Sterne-Hoya House and in the parking lot of the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot.
A Little Free Library is a “take a book, share a book” free book exchange that provides 24/7 access to books for readers of all ages.
There are now more than 200,000 registered Little Free Library book-sharing boxes across 128 countries worldwide.
The library has received a grant for $2,812 from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for its Listening & Reading Stories summer program project. The library will purchase audio books for children and adults and will promote them at various summer outreach events.
The library staff is preparing for the summer programs. This year ’ s theme is Uncover a Story. The programs kickoff on June 6 at the library. th
As part of the day’s events, the library will also host a Futbol (Soccer) Jersey Exchange in anticipation of the FIFA Men’s World Cup! Bring your jersey or other team paraphernalia to trade with our futbol enthusiasts. The event is free and no registration is required.

Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 19 and the brush route in zone 19.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Nacodoches Splashpads are open for the season. Recreation hosted season open celebrations at both Splashadoches and Temple Splashpad on Thursday. A big thank you to Mama Rose Italian Ice and Grumps Shave Ice for joining us for these celebrations.
Mill Pond’s Playground Grand Opening Celebration was a success today. Councilmen Blaine Williams addressed the crown with a few words about Mill Pond Park playground and how important it is to the community. Williams assembled residents to cut the ribbon to officially open the new playground.
Summer is just around the corner. Summer camp registration is open and there are some spots still available. Gymnastics/Ninja Camp will be offered the first week of June, Rec Camp begins the second week. Click here to register.

Mark your Calendars for National Trails Day Saturday June 6 . In honor of this day recreation will be hosting a trail clean up day.
The Texas State Blueberry Festival is less than a month away. The Running of the Blueberries kicks off the festival with a 5K, 10K or 1mile. Registration is open. Click here to register.
Parks Department
Both Temple Park Splashpad (1100 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd) and Splashadoches at Maroney Park (2110 Maroney Dr) are open for the season. Hours of operation for both Splashpads are 9am-7pm. Please remember to pick up all trash around the splashpads to make sure they continue to run smoothly.
