The Nacogdoches County Expo Center will be hosting the Ability Strong Festival on Saturday, May 16 from 10:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. For more information on the event, click here.
Also taking place at the Expo Center this weekend is Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful’s annual tire recycling day! KNB will be on-site from 9:00 a.m to noon, or until 800 tires have been collected. Residents may bring their unwanted tires for free disposal.

Lunch Hour Learn Series May 19 : Historic Restoration Grants th
Historic Preservation Officer Jessica Sowell will share information about Nacogdoches’ five historic districts and available historic restoration grants
Property owners within the five historic districts, or those with individually designated historic properties, may be eligible to apply for funding assistance for exterior restoration work.
During the session, Jessica will discuss the historic districts, what is expected of property owners, and the resources available to help support exterior maintenance and preservation efforts.
Local high school graduates are invited to use the library’s steamer to get their graduation garb ready to go! It is selfserve and students under 18 should be assisted by their parent/guardian. Ask at the checkout desk.
Parents of children under 6 years old are reminded about the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Parents track the number of books they read with their children to earn prizes along their way to reaching their goal of reading 1,000 books before entering kindergarten. It’s easier than you think. Please ask for details at the library.
The last Citizenship Study Group class for the spring will be May 27 . Classes will resume the week of May 31 . Classes are offered Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5:30pm. There is no registrations requirement. For more information, contact library staff at 936-559-2970.

Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 2 and the brush route in zone 15.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.
Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

NPD Swears in Three New Officers
On Tuesday, May 12th, County Judge Greg Sowell administered the oath of office to our three newest employees who recently graduated from the Angelina Police Academy. These officers will now begin the Field Training Program, where they will continue developing the skills, experience, and professionalism necessary to prepare for the challenges law enforcement officers face every day while serving our community.

Construction of the 2026 Curb and Valley Gutter Project will begin on Monday, May 18, weatherpermitting, with curb replacement and valley gutter installations on Hollybrook Street and Cherrybrook Street Work is expected to take a couple of days at each location once construction begins Residents should use caution while driving through these areas and thru traffic should plan alternate routes, if possible.
