Community Happenings

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) will host a Speak Up, Texas! event in Nacogdoches on Friday, April 10. The event will be held at the Fredonia Hotel from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Read the news release here.

The County and City will hold a series of public meetings throughout the county to gather public input for their Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. The purpose of each public meeting is to provide a project overview from H2O Partners, Inc., consultant to the project, and solicit information from the community. The County and City of Nacogdoches will hold the first public meeting on April 16, 2026.

Convention & Visitor’s Bureau

This week Visit Nacogdoches hosted the Texas Film Commission for a Digital Media Friendly Workshop at the Fredonia Hotel. This Friday, the Charles Bright Visitor Center will be open for limited hours from 1:004:00PM. The Visitor Center will be open on Saturday, but closed Sunday. We will resume normal hours on Monday, April 6th.

Next Friday, the CVB Board will meet for its April meeting at 9:00am in City Hall Conference Room 203. Please note the CVB Board's new monthly meeting date and time, the 2nd Friday of the month at 9:00am. Typically the meetings will be held in the Visitor Center basement, but will meet in City Hall Conference Romo 203 for April only.

Municipal Court

Warrant Forgiveness Program

The Nacogdoches Municipal Court is offering a warrant forgiveness program. Through this program, all warrant fees will be removed when a citizen voluntarily contacts the court to pay a minimum of onehalf the total amount due and start a payment plan for the balance owed. Anyone that chooses to pay their fine and court costs in full will save an additional 20% off the fine amount The court will also offer assistance to individuals that may not be able to pay half down or pay in full to work out an agreeable action plan. This program will be available February through April. Anyone that comes to the court to resolve their outstanding warrants will be given safe harbor.

Texas Comedies returns to Zion Hill this May for “The Crash at Crush: Musical Comedy”

Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, Inc. invites you to enjoy a new musical comedy, “The Crash at Crush,” performed by Austin-based performance group, Texas Comedies.

The Crash at Crush is based on an incredible true story of a staged train crash near the temporary town of Crush, TX. Spurred by bankruptcy, bizarre railroad employees, and the Ringling Brothers Circus, William Crush created an explosive new form of mass entertainment in the form of a staged train crash.

Join in the music, laughter, and lively performance on Friday, May 15th, 2026, at 7:00 pm at Zion Hill Historic Site at 324 N. AARP Tax Aid volunteers will conclude their tax preparation services on April 8th. Limited appointments are available.

Library staff will host a Spring Paint Party on April 10 from 3-4:30pm for ages 19+ years. Come join the fun. th

Library staff is preparing for the Clothing Swap to be held on Saturday, April 25 from 1-3pm. th

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 13 and the brush route in zone 2.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.

Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

TxDOT Update

NIGHT PAVING - Nacogdoches

Nighttime paving operations on US 59 Business (BU 59)/North Street in Nacogdoches is ongoing

This is a continuation of the mill-and-inlay project that began in 2025 when BU 59 between State Highway 21 (SH 21) and State Loop 224 (SL 224) was repaved

Work during this phase will occur between SH 21/Main Street and SL 224/N. Stallings Drive during night hours to minimize traffic disruptions. Read more https://ow.ly/o1Ew50Yv2cQ
