Nacogdoches Historic Sites

Preservation: Durst-Taylor House Front Porch

Preservation work continues across our historic sites as we care for the spaces that connect our community to its past. This week, work focused on the front porch of the Durst Taylor House.

The railing and steps have been restored, improving both safety and the overall appearance of the home.

For nearly 200 years, this porch has looked out over La Calle del Norte, or North Street, witnessing the changing rhythms of Nacogdoches. When giving tours, we often invite visitors to imagine sitting on the porch and watching the world pass by, from horses and wagons to early automobiles and now modern vehicles traveling the same historic road.

Leaders of Tomorrow tour Nacogdoches Historic Sites

This past Tuesday, students from Leadership Tomorrow through the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce visited several historic sites, including the Durst-Taylor House, downtown Nacogdoches, Oak Grove Cemetery, Zion Hill, and the grounds of the Sterne-Hoya House.

During their visit, we shared the history of Nacogdoches while highlighting the important role museums play in enriching the lives of residents and supporting tourism within the community.
