Community Happenings

The annual Do-Dat BBQ will be taking place at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center on Saturday, April 25. This fundraising event combines fundraising, great BBQ and family fun into one great event! Check out this page for more information on the event!

The City of Nacogdoches will host a Capital Improvement Plan/Bond Open House inside the meeting room of the C.L Simon Recreation Center on May 12 from 3-5:00 p.m. The purpose of this open house will be to update the public on the progress of the various publicly funded bond projects underway through the city (or upcoming projects).

Convention & Visitor’s Bureau

This week Visit Nacogdoches hosted Nac Snack Friday on the square! Chambers Smokehouse, Revolution Road Pizza, White Farmhouse, Shali's Indian Kitchen, and Sweet Sips were set up from 11am-sold out and staff set out tables and turned on tunes for visitors and locals to enjoy.

Next weekend is Sale on the Trail! Nacogdoches has over 50 vendors and businesses participating in the regional event that takes place from Nacogdoches, TX to Natchitoches, LA. To see a map of all stops along the trail, click here.

Next Saturday, May 2nd, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) of Nacogdoches will host an American 250 Exhibit Kickoff at the Charles Bright Visitor Center at 10am. All members of the community are invited to attend! Afterward, come inside and enjoy the exhibits celebrating America's 250th Birthday

Municipal Court

Warrant Forgiveness Program

The Nacogdoches Municipal Court is offering a warrant forgiveness program. Through this program, all warrant fees will be removed when a citizen voluntarily contacts the court to pay a minimum of onehalf the total amount due and start a payment plan for the balance owed. Anyone that chooses to pay their fine and court costs in full will save an additional 20% off the fine amount The court will also offer assistance to individuals that may not be able to pay half down or pay in full to work out an agreeable action plan. This program will be available February through April. Anyone that comes to the court to resolve their outstanding warrants will be given safe harbor.

Animal Services

This week we worked with our friends over in the Recreation Center to restart our “Pet at the Rec” program, where a loving shelter dog in need of a new home got a change of scenery and met some new friends at the Rec Center. This week’s pet is Socks, a 6 year old pit mix with a sweet disposition and very chill demeanor. Call or stop by to learn how you can be a furever friend to Socks!

Earth Day Downtown Beautification

Main Street celebrated Earth Day by preparing the downtown hanging baskets for reinstallation. With 32 baskets throughout the district, this effort takes significant time and coordination.

A special thank you to Excel ER for their support their team assisted with prepping and planting, making a meaningful impact in a short amount of time. This project was part of their “Deep Roots, Greener Future” campaign, and we appreciate their continued partnership in keeping downtown Nacogdoches looking its best

Save the Date: SFA String Concert at Zion Hill on Tuesday, May 5th

Join us on Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 PM for a free evening of music at Zion Hill Baptist Church Historic Site, featuring talented student string musicians from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

Crash at Crush Tickets Reminder

Tickets for Crash at Crush are now available. Reserve your seat online at Eventbrite.com, or purchase tickets in person at Zion Hill during operating hours, Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or during the first two Saturdays of each month. Seating is limited, so we encourage you to secure your spot soon.

Nacogdoches Public Library

Library staff is preparing for the Clothing Swap to be held on Saturday, April 25 from 1-3pm. th

We are excited about upcoming updates to the Children's Department! We'll have a selection of library materials in the meeting room while the area is closed off.

This week’s Earth Day storytime was held at Dilly Dally Cafe. Staff also took part in The Farmers Market Spring Fling.

Look for us at local parks and busineesses! We bring library services to meet people where they are in the community. This coming week, the Tuesday Citizenship Class will be held at El Monkey Loko at 5:30pm.

Library Staff also celebrated National Library Week. This week honors the library workers, volunteers, and partners who bring a breadth of services and reading materials to the community.

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush route in zones 1 and 22.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Recreation Department

This week for Corporate Challenge City staff competed in Table Tennis, Scrabble, Pickleball, Mini-Golf and Golf. The City’s Library team received 1 place in the Scrabble competition. The City is currently still in 3 Place overall behind CBTX and Eaton. Next week is the last week of completion. The City will be competing in Volleyball, Speed Puzzling, Mud Run, Washers and the 5K. Good luck to our teams!
