On the occasion of the upcoming Al Shiraa Show, to be held in Abu Dhabi from 27th February to 1st March, Tutto Arabi dedicates the most significant images from the four editions of the Al Shiraa Show, to relive the moments and atmosphere of this important event.
The Al Shiraa Show owes its success to the visionary foresight of one woman, Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Al Nahyan, a UAE Royal Family member and refined horse breeder who has put Her passion and respect for these wonderful and highly intelligent creatures first.
We thank Her for creating an elegant and engaging show, a true treasure trove of beauty, quality and strength in which to discover the representatives of tomorrow’s breeding.

In the breeding of Arabian horses, inbreeding and linebreeding are commonly used strategies to consolidate desirable traits such as type, movement, temperament, and performance. However, when these methods are not applied with genetic awareness and precision, they can lead to serious risks for the long-term health and vitality of the breed.
Breeder Selections is THE LARGEST VIRTUAL STABLE IN THE WORLD, thanks to an INNOVATIVE ALGORITHM designed to help breeders choose the most suitable animals to mate following a genetic criterion. It compares the pedigrees of selected breeders in a few seconds, and scans all ancestors for six generations, possibly reporting the presence of common parents, inbreeding or line breeding, giving you a quick review of genetic compatibility between the breeders. The pedigree of each horse is presented with a new, colorful, and interactive design. Every family tree contains 63 registered subjects, with an automatic age calculation, that changes automatically year after year (so you don’t have to calculate it just by looking at the year of birth), it visually analyzes whether there is high or low genetic variability between the two animals without having to observe two separate family trees, checking manually and risking getting lost among the various branches and not noticing grandparents, great grandparents or entire bloodlines in common.
Inbreeding is the mating of two closely related individuals, for example, father × daughter, or full brother × full sister. This results in a high inbreeding coefficient (F), meaning a greater proportion of genes in the offspring are identical by descent. This kind of mating can be risky, and lead to serious short-term genetic defects that often do not leap from generation to generation. Linebreeding is a milder, more strategic form of inbreeding, where horses are bred with a common ancestor further back in the pedigree, for example, both horses descending from the same stallion in the 3rd or 4th generation. That helps maintain the influence of a great foundation sire or dam. The goal of a good and strategic linebreeding is to reinforce positive traits over generations.
Linebreeding is often used by breeders to evidence good traits in the offspring such as head, body, charisma and more... But we all have to know that close linebreeding (for example using a stallion with the same grandfather of the mare) increase the chances also to inherit the defects of our favourite horses and not only merits, due to the higher concentration of recessive genes (especially harmful ones) that can result in inherited health problems very common in show horses, such as ATAXIA, OVERBITE, CLUB FOOT, LFS, SCID, JOINT DEFECTS and more... This means that we have to be sure to use genotipically and physically strong horses for the welfare of our foals, but how?

Breeder Selection can also be used to study the linebreeding, so that it immediately highlights which specific horse is being used by displaying the genetic distance. An error code shown on the screen will tell you whether it is strategic, or simply a reduction in genetic variability.
We want to present to the public the possibility of using innovative bloodlines, without sacrifi cing the show quality that we love.
The goal of this website, is to make the selection process simple and accessible to all breeders worldwide, also young breeders who need to familiarize themselves with the complex and numerous lines to choose from to improve the aesthetic appearance and performance of their products. All this offers the opportunity for people in the sector to share their breeding choices with everyone, compare and experiment with new pairings, estimating the genetic potential, and promote farms that are willing to invest in the “WELFARE OF THE BREED”
Imagine seeing the genetic distance between two horses clearly visualized, understanding which pairings can bring strength or vulnerability to the foals, and being guided by a system that transforms complex data into valuable decisions. In a sector where every mating can change the fate of a breeding program, Breeder Selections gives breeders the confidence of knowing their choices are based not just on tradition or intuition, but on a complete, informed and full of potential vision. This is how the future of breeding becomes not only more responsible, but exciting and full of possibilities
MADE FOR BREEDERS: a breeder registered with Breeder
Selections is certainly someone who prioritizes the genotypic quality and pedigrees of their purebred Arabians, strengthening their characteristics and selecting according to the principle of genetic compatibility. It is an opportunity to share one’s breeding choices and bloodlines with the Arabian horse industry, and to promote one’s stud on a new, innovative and growing web platform. Thanks to the FIRST AUTOMATIC PEDIGREE COMPARISON.
TRAINING CENTERS: B.S wants to present an ONLINE TRAINING CENTERS DATABASE, they indirectly provide signifi cant support to breeders, not only by preparing horses to compete in the most prestigious shows, but also by assisting in the buying, selling and selection process. This is made possible thanks to their access to imported stallions and mares, available through stud fees, embryos, and leasing opportunities.
In addition to their personal page, the website features stallions available for breeding, broodmares and show foals for sale, each linked to its complete pedigree in an innovative format, along with photographs, videos, descriptions and any performance records. The services available to owners and breeders are publicly listed (such as horse walker, treadmill, paddock, stalls, and the number of spaces available), together with contact information, and media materials to support the presentation of the facility. Promoting breeding, new bloodlines available and embryos for sale.
OWNERS: the pedigrees of their registered horses are available on the website, which allows them to use the comparison tool with their bloodlines to strategically plan their future breeding choices. The website also offers the

additional option for Breeder Selections to handle the negotiation of sales, making the process easier for owners. Not only are the horses more prominently showcased on the site, but they are also professionally presented and promoted during private consultations with other breeders.
CLINICS: the website will provides a database of clinics that offer specialized services for high-level artifi cial horse reproduction, outlining what they can offer to those who wish to inseminate their mare, produce fresh or frozen semen from their stallions, or produce embryos from their best mares / perform embryo transfer.
Breeder Selections is more than a tool, it is a vision for the future of breeding. It empowers breeders to look beyond the present, to make choices guided not only by tradition, but by knowledge, responsibility and ambition. By offering clarity in genetic relationships, confidence in line breeding decisions and access to advanced reproductive services, the platform allows innovation without fear and progress without compromise.
In a world where every breeding choice shapes the next generation, Breeder Selections gives breeders the freedom to dream bigger, plan smarter, and protect the quality they believe in. It is where passion meets science, and where today’s decisions become tomorrow’s champions.

The 2026 season of the Global Champions Arabians Tour opened in spectacular fashion in Abu Dhabi, setting an impressive tone for the international circuit ahead. Held over four days of elite competition and attended under the esteemed presence of His Highness Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the championship reaffirmed the tour’s position as the premier global stage for Arabian horse excellence. Breeders, handlers, and enthusiasts from across the world witnessed a showcase of beauty, attitude and refinement, as the first champions of the new season were crowned. With exceptional quality across all classes, Abu Dhabi did not merely host the season opener, it established a powerful benchmark for the months to come.
This edition of the GCAT Abu Dhabi was evaluated by a strong international panel of judges: Hammad Alaa (Bahrain), Faraj Elyas Ebrahim (Bahrain), Hamza Ahmed (Egypt), Badrawy Mohamed Ahmed Fathy (Egypt), Bérengère Fayt (France), Nikolaus Jung (Germany), Jassim Al Mesbah (Kuwait), Mohamed Machmoum (Morocco), Christian Moschini (Italy), Renata Schibler (Switzerland), Hassanain Al-Nakeeb (United Kingdom), Caroline Reid (United Kingdom), Janice Mc Crea-Wight (United States), and Jerzy Zbyszewski (United States).
The show started on Thursday with two large classes of yearling fillies. It was an exciting battle for the top honors. For a long time, the beautiful and typey Shalwa Al Adwan (Harbi Al Adwan x Lina AT), bred by Al Adwani Stud and owned by Al Jumail Stud, held the lead with 91.29 points. Just before the end of the class, the lovely Roselynn Aldarb (Hamed Sarm x Dalola AB), bred by Mana Ali Mueidh Al Hajlan and owned by Al Asaeiel Stud, danced into the arena and scored almost perfect 20s on head and neck, as well as a high score for movement. With a total of 91.43 points, she pushed Shalwa into second place and took over the leading position. However, in the final Yearling Fillies Championship, Roselynn did not return to the podium, while Shalwa took her revenge by claiming the Silver medal.
The second group of yearling fillies had one strong leader. The beautiful, ultra-typey Malikah Al Arab (ALK Retajj x Adwaa Al Arab), bred by Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali Al Ali and owned by Hleetan Qatar Stud, came, saw, and conquered. With perfect 20s for head and neck and a strong total score of 92.29 points, she not only took the lead but remained in first place until the end of the class. Later, in the final Yearling Fillies Championship, she claimed the Gold medal. Second-placed Selene Albidayer (Arjuwan Albidayer x Badeeah Albidayer),
bred and owned by Albidayer Stud from the UAE, scored a total of 91.14 points and went on to claim the Bronze medal in the final.
The show continued with the yearling colts — another strong class featuring beautiful, promising young colts. Out of fourteen entries, it was the flashy AJ Fayed (D Shahhar x AJ Felicia), bred and owned by Ajman Stud, who took the lead with an impressive 92.07 points. In the final Yearling Colts Championship, he went on to win the Gold medal. Second in this class with 91 points was his stablemate AJ Badwi (AJ Radman x AJ Badia), making Ajman Stud the top breeder in this section.

In the next class of yearling colts, the top three colts scored extremely close to one another. With only 0.08 points of difference, the big-moving Kibrit Al Shaqab (Alexxander x Alaian Al Shaqab), bred and owned by Al Shaqab Stud, earned four 20s for movement. With a total score of 91.79 points, he was set as the class leader. Later, in the final championships, he secured the Silver medal. In second place with 91.71 points was Sahm Aljassimya (Lehon x Alma Aljassimya), bred and owned by Al Jassimya Farm. This colt also put on quite a show and received five 20s for movement. In the final championships, however, he had to give up a podium position to the third-placed colt from this class:

D Yamaan (D Shahhar x D Reemah), bred and owned by Dubai Stud, who had received a total score of 91.64 points and went on to take the Bronze medal.
The following day, the show resumed in the late afternoon. As the sun slowly set over Abu Dhabi, the first group of junior fillies made their entrance. Once again, it was a strong class, filled with some of the best fillies in the world. Setting the bar with a high score of 92.29 points, the beautifully refined Psyche Alia (Nahil Al Khalediah x Psyche Victoria), bred by Krzysztof Poszepczynski and owned by Hanaya Arabian Horse Stud of Switzerland, maintained this top position throughout the entire class. Runner-up in second place with 92 points was D Neran (D Seraj x Elle Jaharra), bred and owned by Dubai Stud. In third place with 91.71 points was the pretty Areej Akmal (Rhan Al Shahania x Badia A), bred and owned by Akmal Stud. Later, in the championships, Areej surpassed both competitors and proudly claimed the Silver medal.
If you were already impressed by the first group, the second group of junior fillies truly gave you goosebumps. Dancing into the arena and showing off her beautiful type, head, and neck was the gorgeous Al Aryam Harbah (SMA Magic One x Al Aryam Hamra), bred and owned by Al Aryam Stud. With almost perfect 20s for type,
head, and neck, this young filly achieved a grand total of 92.57 points. Harbah also left a lasting impression in the championships, claiming the Gold medal among all junior fillies almost unanimously. Second in this class with 91.79 points was Expectations Al Wajba (Excalibur EA x Expected Beauty), bred and owned by Al Wajba Stud. This outstanding filly went on to claim the Bronze medal in the final Junior Fillies Championship.
After the fillies, it was time for the boys: two large classes of junior colts representing the future of the breed. The winner of the class with 91.64 points was the flashy D Mayzoon (D Fannan x D Al Shahba), bred and owned by Dubai Stud. Later in the championships, Mayzoon claimed the Silver medal. Second in this class with 91.21 points was the pretty Ezz Al Aliyat (Ash Al Alezz x Layali Al Aliyat), bred by Abdullah Alobaid and owned by Al Aliyat Stud.
The show continued with the final class of junior colts, where two strong colts battled for the top position. It was the striking Aesar Al Wajba (AJ Radman x LR Altagracia), bred and owned by Al Wajba Stud, who took the lead with a grand total of 92 points. Later, in the final Junior Colts Championship, he claimed the Gold medal. Second in this class with 91.50 points was Mishref Al Shaqab (EKS Farajj x Bashirah Al Shaqab), bred and

owned by Al Shaqab Stud. In the championships, this colt went on to take the Bronze medal.
Saturday was reserved for the senior classes — the legends of the breed, the crème de la crème, the very best the world has to offer. Seeing the catalogue, we were in for a real treat. All mares were worthy of winning the show; however, there can only be one winner. In the first class of senior mares, that winner was the breathtaking D Najlah (D Seraj x Elle Flamenca), bred and owned by Dubai Stud. With almost perfect 20s for type, head, and neck, and a total score of 92.43 points, this mare not only won her class but also claimed the Gold medal in the final Senior Mares Championship. Second in this strong class with a total of 92 points was the big-moving Shaden Yaser (AJ Radman x Yara Yaser), bred by Yaser Al Harthi and owned by Hanaya Arabian Horse Stud of Switzerland.
Just when it seemed it could not get any better, the second group of mares danced into the arena — all breathtaking, all ready to claim the throne. Setting one of the highest scores of the day with 92.71 points was Al Aryam Atab (SMA Magic One x Al Aryam Abla), bred and owned by Al Aryam Stud. With full 20s for type and head and neck, this complete and strong-moving mare made an impressive statement, later earning the Silver medal in the Senior Mares Championship. Second in this class was another classic beauty. Scoring a total of 92.29 points, Basandra Settimocielo (Ajman Moniscione x MA Scarlet), bred by Maria Ferraroni and owned by Ajman Stud, not only took second place in the class but also secured the Bronze medal in the final Senior Mares Championship.
After the mares, it was time for the big boys — the senior stallions. It was an impressive sight, watching them all dance into the arena. The winner of the first class of senior stallions with a score of 91.43 points was

AJ Sinan (AJ Mardan x Sama AM), bred by Ajman Stud and owned by Abdulla Al Hajeri. Second in this class was D Safsouf (D Jernas x D Sara), bred by Dubai Arabian Horse Stud and owned by Ahmed Al Marzooqi.
All medal winners of the Senior Stallion Championship came from the final class of the day — and what a battle it was. The scores were extremely close; however, it was the beautiful D Seraj (FA El Rasheem x Ladi Veronika), bred and owned by Dubai Stud, who not only won the class with a total of 92.71 points but also went on to claim the Gold medal in the final championships, almost unanimously. He is also the sire of the beautiful D Najlah, who had won Gold in the Senior Mares Championship just hours earlier — a remarkable achievement for Dubai Stud. In second place with 92.07 points was the elegant and classic Al Aryam Shklaan (Excalibur EA x Al Aryam Shakeera), bred and owned by Al Aryam Stud, who later secured the Silver medal. Third in this class with 91.33 points — and later Bronze medalist — was D Sharar (D Seraj x FT Shaella), bred and owned by Dubai Stud.
With these exceptional horses parading in the stunning arena of the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, it became clear that the 2026 Global Champions Arabians Tour is shaping up to be a season we will not soon forget, setting a high benchmark for the next GCAT stage in Katara, Doha. q

THOSE WHO LOVE, PROTECT. TO PROTECT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FORM OF THE VERB 'TO LOVE. Bruno ferrero
Training and conditioning are very important moments for horses, because they will influence their lives. However, there are no specific regulations governing the relationship between professionals and those who entrust their animals to them. The parties may enter into a contract, provided that the interests they intend to protect are relevant to our legal system, whose rules they must comply with.
It would be best for the parties to agree in writing, specifying in particular their personal details, the name of the horse, the methods of breaking in and training, the duration, the tools to be used, the cost of boarding, the type of feed, grooming, and any veterinary expenses. It would also be best to attach a health record for the animal and keep track of the work done on a daily basis.
It would be important to provide rest periods and use tools that do not harm the animal, whose physiological and ethological needs must be respected. If the horse were returned in worse health than when it was delivered, the trainer/instructor would be held responsible if the client were able to prove that they suffered damages due to the professional’s conduct. For a better understanding, consider, for example, cases in which the animal was returned to its owner thin, sick, or with behavioral problems that it did not have before. Or it was returned lame because of the box where it was housed or the enclosure where it was left free.
We should also consider the problems that could arise due to the conduct of the staff employed by the professional. It would therefore be advisable for the work to be carried out by qualified operators and for a training contract to be drawn up according to the characteristics of the individual animal. This is clearly a delicate and complex matter. It would be useful for those working in the sector to take out professional liability insurance.
This will cover any damages, for example resulting from failure to act appropriately, from obligations that should have been fulfilled, from conduct that requires technical knowledge that was not applied, or for damages caused by underestimating essential aspects. To limit similar situations, in the future it would also be useful to establish a specific professional register, which would update training in the sector, facilitate discussion between professionals, and giving these professionals the right importance and protection. All this, with appropriate measures and good management practices, simultaneously protects the trainer, who will not be held liable for damage not caused by him, as well as the owners of the horses and the animals themselves, whose welfare is paramount. Contact us to avoid and mitigate risks. We will support you in your challenging but valuable journey.

“Do what you love to do with all your heart and force … and never give up!”
Emotional and inspiring talk with Annette Escher, the woman who keep fulfilling her dreams and reach the success no matter what comes the way.
by Urszula Łęczycka
photos by Annette & Erwin Escher
Urszula Łęczycka: Your farm has been established 35 years ago by you and your husband Erwin. Nowadays you run it all by yourself and Straight Egyptian horses with GR prefix are worldwide known. You also run one of the largest Straight Egyptian black coloured herds in the world – that is in high demand nowadays. Can you tell us more about the idea of establishing your breeding program? Was it the same from the beginning or it has been changing through the years and following the market? What were your first horses and where did you get them from?
Annette Escher: We started our Straight Egyptian breeding with a small number of horses several years before we could buy the right place and built “Rothenberg Stud” in 1991. In 1992 the stud and pastures was ready and we moved our horses to here … from this time, having place enough, we were looking for the right additions and after we haven’t found most of them in Europe (there was only few Egyptians in Germany / Europe at this time and nearly nothing for sale) we went several times to USA looking at studs and horses driving thousands of

miles weekly. During this time we found and bought the foundation horses for my recent breeding, so the mares like: Halims Asmara (Ansata Halim Shah x Lancers Asmara- US National Top Ten and twice World Res. Champion mare), Dalima Shah (Ansata Halim Shah x AK Bint Dalia II), Ansata Aya Maria (Ansata Shah Zaman x Ansata Aya Halima by Ansata Ibn Halima) –Bukra line and the black Champion mare Maria Halima (Haziz Halim x Chelsea), Then we found the black mare Fasinah (Nahaman x Fatima) in Germany and before 1992 we already have owned the mare Samara (Ibn Moheba x Safiniya by Ibn Galal), I still own her black great-granddaughter GR Samantha which meanwhile is mother herself!
Over the years we sometimes leased a mare or made breeding-cooperation to add foals out of interesting mothers and motherlines – this way we bred our „Queen“ GR Nashidah (by Classic Shadwan) which is the mother of black gold-premium stallion GR Nashad (exp. Kuwait, by GR Faleeh) as well as the black mare GR Layla (meanwhile exp. UAE; by GR Faleeh) who is the mother of our recent broodmare GR Larissa and our young

stallion GR Layad (both by GR Ishad). This year we expect the first foals by GR Layad, this will be a very exiting foalingseason again! After we moved to Rothenberg Stud we also bought our foundation-stallions: Classic Shadwan (Alidaar x Shagia Bint Shadwan imp. Egypt) which we found in France was four years old at this time and the black MadallanMadheen; when we heard about a very special black colt

being born 1994 out of special bloodlines we quickly went to see him, and we bought him in age of 6 weeks! He was the very first foundation for our black breeding! MadallanMadheen was not bred to get black, his parents were chestnut (his father Ansata El Salaam) and bay (the famous mare Madinah, mother of Imperial Madheen) but he got black “by accident” and was just bred to be a great horse … and got a

Most of our early blacks were out of non black lines … blacks were seldom and good blacks even more and usually they were impossible to buy! Since I was a child I always was a big fan of black horses but Erwin mostly loved the greys - in the end we love all colors so we only had a few blacks in the first years.
Over the years we got more and more black foals (also Classic Shadwan produced fantastic blacks) and after 35 years I have managed to get fantastic blacks from all our foundationhorses … for several I needed generations but meanwhile I have a fantastic group of black and black producing broodmares, many are already 4th and 5th generation of our foundation-mares!
But color was not most important all the time – we both

loved pretty exotic faces, good (proven) Straight Egyptian pedigrees and as we also were riders since the beginning we wanted to have a solid horse with good body, legs and movements which are able to carry us over the fields! The goal was not to lose any of this points over the years … type, body, movement … and most important at all the fantastic, people loving sweet character the Egyptians are famous for.
UŁ: Straight Egyptian breeding is one of most difficult ones as you must use a very limited gene pool that creates some problems in avoiding inbreeding and breeding overall harmonius and typey horse. Limiting the Straight Egyptian breeding to black colour group only must be even more challenging. How do you find your way to keep breeding beautiful and correct horses with such a limited requirements?

AE: Most of our foundation horses were not bred to get black which means they had a bigger gene-pool as if we would bought mostly blacks in the beginning … there were only very few black and black producing lines at this time which already often were inbred. And over the years we always were open to use sometimes outside stallions doesn’t matter the color like World Champion Al Lahab if we thought they would bring us something new in blood and look … in my recent herd I have great mares from this line! We always used the Straight Egyptian bloodlines we liked personally not looking for trends and what other breeders prefer … we went our own way for our own taste and what we loved ourselves!
UŁ: Did you manage to combine your goals of having the bloodlines, the strenght, stamina and also the colour and then keep into the fashion to win the show titles? It had to be extremely difficult task..
AE: Over the years we often showed our horses and many of our foundation horses and their offspring got MultiChampions and gold premium stallions. For example Dalima Shah and her daughter Shadwanah (by Classic Shadwan) as well as Halims Asmara and her son GR Amaretto (by Classic Shadwan) won among other titles the champion titles at the Egyptian Event Europe. Also our first homebred black mares
GR Marietta and GR Marianah (both Madallan-Madheen x Maria Halima) won several championships which was very special at this time as nearly no blacks was shown successfully!

Also later our black stallion GR Faleeh (exported to Kuwait; Madallan-Madheen x Fasinah) was shown successfully as class-winner and Topf Five at the Egyptian Event Europe … and many more.
We sold and I still sell my foals nearly all over the world and many of them won and win a lot for their new owners– many champion titles in halter classes as well as endurance races or riding classes.
Our sold horses live around the world as breeding-horses and produce fantastic foals for their new owners … or are just best friends and great riding-horses to give their new owners fun and happy hours.
We also bred several gold premium stallions at the stallion registration of the registry, for me one of the most difficult gold to get at all!
We got gold premium titles for GR Amaretto (exported to Iran, Classic Shadwan x Halims Asmara by Ansata Halim Shah), his ¾-brother Maheeb (black; Classic Shadwan x Bint Bint Mahiba by Ansata Halim Shah) and for the other black stallions GR Nashad (exported to Kuwait; GR Faleeh x GR Nashidah by Classic Shadwan), his black son at stud GR Ishad (GR Nashad x Shaylah Bint Iman by Classic Shadwan) and also for our young black stallion GR Fasin (Maheeb x

our foundation-mare Fasinah by Nahaman). And I have big hope to continue this fantastic row with my promising young black stallion GR Layad (GR Ishad x GR Layla by GR Faleeh) in the future! He also is homozygous without any white markings and have an extremly dishy head – he is the future of Rothenberg Stud! I eagerly wait to see his first foals very soon!
UŁ: Did you manage to establish some dam and sire lines of your own that you admire until that day and continue?
AE: All of my recent breeding-horses come in direct line from our early foundation horses – and all of them carry either the blood of Classic Shadwan or Madallan-Madheen or both of them!
Over the years I managed to breed fantastic blacks from all of the foundation-mares which made me very happy and proud and I love to see that the sold ones make their new owners happy, too.
UŁ: here is probably no Arabian horse lover in Europe that would not know the photos made by your husband Erwin who passed away 10 years ago. Since that time you keep running the farm by your own with just one helper. Your strenght, passion and achievements could be an inspiration for many woman or girls who dream or

of problems after giving birth and let her newborn filly GR Bint Asmara (by GR Moneef) alone with me. This baby nearly died as well because of substitute milk so I needed to take milk from other mares to feed this baby … you can imagine that I nearly had no time to sleep over months which was very hard but maybe also good for me in this situation. My only aim was that we both need to survive …and we did! Meanwhile GR Bint Asmara gave birth to already four wonderful black fillies by GR Ishad herself which was sold in and outside Europe and one of her black fillies even won Championships for her new owner … all this made me very happy and gave me force to continue! And in 2026 GR Bint Asmara will get one of GR Layad’s first foals!

time and take it into your heart for the future. Like when my homebred young homozygous black stallion GR Fasin (by Maheeb by Classic Shadwan), the much too early born last foal out of our foundation-mare Fasinah (which nearly died several time during the first weeks of his life) got a gold ribbon from the German registry as breeding-stallion with just amazing high scores in all points. And every new birth when mother and baby are well – just a wonder every time! As a breeder you mostly look forward into the future for the next breedings and the next foals, this keep you running, don’t look back too much! Just important that you love what you do … then even the work makes you happy!!!
UŁ: What an amazing story and the best proof to your words of advice that I would certainly put as a title of this interview! I wish you all the best of luck on reaching your future goals and of course – with mostly those great and happy moments for every breeder.

2022 SPANISH NATIONAL CHAMPION
FIRST FOALS CROP

by Matteo Chincarini
Ismaele Nones is an artist who has chosen to swim against the tide, looking back in order to speak powerfully to the present. His work stems from a profound dialogue with medieval and Byzantine iconography, not as a simple stylistic reference, but as a true expressive language. His works seem to come from a suspended time, in which images had a symbolic, ritualistic, almost sacred function, and at the same time speak with surprising clarity to the contemporary viewer.

Looking at Nones’ paintings, a constant dialectic between antiquity and modernity immediately emerges. It is a tension that is never resolved, but deliberately kept alive. On the one hand, there is the careful study of icons, religious scenes and ancient mosaics; on the other, the inclusion of contemporary references, especially through objects that burst onto the scene with naturalness. This fusion is neither ironic nor provocative: it is a silent encounter between eras, which coexist in the same pictorial space without overwhelming each other.
Two-dimensionality is one of the most evident and declared elements of his work. Nones consciously rejects perspective: he is not interested in it, he does not need it. In this type of expression, illusionistic
depth would lose its meaning. Everything must be clear, legible, placed directly in front of the viewer. It is a choice that directly recalls the medieval iconographic tradition, where the image was not a window on the world, but a presence, an object of contemplation. The gaze does not enter the painting: it stops, it confronts, it remains.
Colour also follows this logic of clarity and rigour. The colours are flat, without nuances, clear and decisive. There is no room for chiaroscuro or technical virtuosity for its own sake. Each shade is carefully chosen as part of a coherent visual grammar. They are “clear” colours, to use a definition that aptly describes their strength: direct, essential, capable of constructing the image

without the need for artifice. In Nones, colour does not describe light: it constructs meaning.
One element that immediately strikes the viewer is the presence of contemporary design objects. Chairs, lamps and furnishings appear in scenes whose composition and setting clearly refer to the ancient world. This contrast generates amazement and gives character to the works, without ever seeming forced. The floors are particularly significant: worked surfaces, coloured tiles and geometric patterns become a veritable exercise in style. Here, the artist demonstrates great attention to compositional structure, transforming an often secondary element into the silent protagonist of the work.
The bodies and faces depicted by Nones are similar to each other, almost archetypal. They do not seek individual resemblance, but a form of universality. They are pure, chaste bodies, even when naked. Nudity is never malicious or provocative: it is symbolic, essential, linked to an idea of original purity. The body becomes a sign, not an object; a presence, not a spectacle. In this sense, Nones’ work is radically different from many contemporary representations of the body, which are often charged with psychological or sensual tension.
In Ismaele Nones’ paintings, animals are never what they seem. They are neither naturalistic representations nor simple decorative elements:

they are allegories. Figures suspended between the real and symbolic worlds, tools through which the artist constructs a space of identification for the viewer.
The animals in his paintings do not exist as such. They become vehicles for deeply human emotions,
tensions, ambitions and conflicts. It is precisely this departure from reality, while remaining anchored to it, that generates an ambiguous and fertile territory in which the viewers can recognise themselves.
This approach has its roots in medieval tradition, when animals were not depicted as mere living

creatures, but as embodiments of moods, moral values and existential situations. Nones recovers this symbolic dimension and reinterprets it in a contemporary key, interweaving it with cultured and visual references.
Animals become instruments of criticism, allowing the artist to maintain a distance, to observe and denounce without falling into a didactic or overly explicit narrative. For Nones, animals are in fact a
shield. An emotional filter that allows him to tackle intimate and complex issues, such as an uncertain future, guilt and inadequacy, with greater clarity.
Ultimately, painting animals allows Ismaele Nones to say what really matters while maintaining a vital distance from reality. It is precisely in this distance that his work finds its strength: a symbolic space in which the personal becomes universal, and the viewers is called upon to recognise themselves.
Behind the apparent formal simplicity of Nones’ paintings lies a great study of the ancient world. Icons, religious scenes from illuminated manuscripts and Byzantine mosaics are not only visual references but conceptual structures. Nones seems to question the profound meaning of the image, its role in history and its ability to transcend time. His canvases are large, they occupy space and demand attention. They cannot be viewed distractedly: they impose a physical, almost monumental presence that engages the viewer.
Ismaele Nones’ work is, ultimately, a clear homage to the past, to that late medieval culture often overshadowed and undervalued in art history. But it is not nostalgia. Rather, it is an act of recovery and respect, an attempt to bring back a way of thinking about the image as a place of meaning and silence. In an age dominated by speed and visual overload, his works invite us to slow down, to look directly at them, and to rediscover the power of simplicity.

Dryarn® can weigh up to 32% less than wool and 34% less than polyester. This lightness, combined with the thermal insulation capacity superior to that of wool, allows the horse to enjoy greater freedom of movement.
Dryarn® has a high permeability to water vapor which makes it exceptionally breathable. As the horse sweats, the foam that forms is absorbed by the saddle pad, helping to reduce humidity on the skin and improving the horse’s comfort during activity. Laboratory tests have shown that, unlike many fibers which block the body’s normal perspiration or allow it only partially and for a limited time, Dryarn® has a very high level of performance during both normal and intense physical activity, allowing the body to maintain the ideal microclimate of the skin.
The REGINTEX® saddle pad is an essential accessory for the horse’s well-being.
In addition to protecting your skin from friction, it helps to evenly distribute saddle pressure, improving comfort during activity. A quality saddle pad ensures that the horse can move freely, without irritation or discomfort, contributing to its balance and serenity.
The REGINTEX® saddle pad ensures optimal moisture management and has bacteriostatic properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria. This helps prevent odors, reduces the risk of allergic reactions and protects the horse’s skin from contact dermatitis.
The saddle pads are washable in the washing machine or with a pressure washer, ensuring the preservation of fabrics and colors. Washing effectively removes all types of dirt and odors.
The REGINTEX® blanket is a great choice for post-race use, and is made using Dryarn® technical fibre. It has thermoregulating, breathable and quick-drying properties. Thanks to its ability to enhance skin perspiration, it allows sweat to evaporate quickly keeping the horse dry. Being very light, it adapts comfortably to the animal’s shape, promoting freedom of movement while the horse relaxes.
