HISTORY WITH A FUTURE
The Lotus Evija Fittipaldi
PAGE 10 | THE MUSKERTEER | LOTUS
The world’s most powerful production car – the stunning Lotus Evija hypercar – now delivers even more exclusivity and desirability. Inspired by the past to enhance the future, Lotus has unveiled the Evija Fittipaldi, a tribute to one of the greatest car-and-driver pairings that Formula 1 has ever seen.
That driver is, of course, Emerson Fittipaldi, the young Brazilian racer who joined Lotus and became a legend, cementing his place in F1 history in 1972. Behind the wheel of the now-iconic Lotus Type 72 and winning five of that season’s 11 races, Fittipaldi secured the Drivers’ Championship for himself and the Constructors’ Championship for Team Lotus. Exactly 50 years on, the Lotus Evija Fittipaldi is a fitting celebration of that partnership. Just eight examples of the all-electric twoseater are being hand-built at Hethel in Norfolk, UK – the global HQ of Lotus sports car design and manufacturing – and all are sold. Showcasing the world-famous black and gold colour scheme – also 50 years old in 2022 – the hand-painted exterior and numerous other unique design features have been created to commemorate this amazing collaboration. They include a hand-tinted plan view of the Type 72 etched into the exposed carbon fibre roof, and Fittipaldi’s signature hand-stitched into the dashboard. And perhaps the most emotive detail of all is the rotary dial on the floating central instrument panel. It has been hand-crafted from recycled original Type 72 aluminium, ensuring a genuine piece of the iconic F1 racer is part of each Evija Fittipaldi. Such a special car deserved a special world premiere; customers, their families and other VIP guests have taken part in an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experience day at Hethel to celebrate the launch of the new car and the iconic Type 72. Guest of honour was Emerson Fittipaldi himself, who said: “It’s fantastic to be back at Hethel for such a special occasion. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of this project and it’s been a wonderful
experience revealing the car to some of the new owners. Having the opportunity to drive both the Evija Fittipaldi and my championship-winning Type 72 Formula 1 car on the test track at Hethel has been an incredible experience.” Other highlights of the day included the first time in history that all eight surviving examples of the Type 72 – hence the number of Evija cars being built – were brought together in one place and run on the Hethel test track. The bespoke specification of the Lotus Evija Fittipaldi starts with its unique paint finish, which includes its designation written on the body work in gold lettering to the side of the rear window. Complementing it are black and gold ‘Type 72’ wheels complete with anodized centre lock surrounds – red on the left side of the car and green on the right – as well as black and gold brake calipers. Decals that celebrate the Type 72’s race victories from the 1972 season are presented on the active rear wing, while a number 8 has been applied to the B-pillar. Fittipaldi raced with that number on his car during the 1972 season, including for his win at the British Grand Prix. A carbon and gold Lotus nose badge completes the exterior styling.
The car has been developed with the generous support of Classic Team Lotus, the historic motorsport business run today by the family of Lotus founder Colin Chapman to maintain and operate Lotus F1 cars. Also based in Hethel just across the road from Lotus, it hosted the gala dinner at the launch event. Clive Chapman, Managing Director, commented: “Emerson Fittipaldi and my father enjoyed a very special relationship, and their spectacular success was a brilliant team effort by the dedicated designers and mechanics at Team Lotus. One
From one world champion to another, earlier the same week Jenson Button visited Lotus to test drive the Evija and Emerson’s Type 72 on the famous Hethel test track. It was the first time Jenson had seen the Evija in production and took one out on track to give it a shake down before the launch of Evija Fittipaldi. Quickly getting up to speed Jenson drove the car around the 2.2mile test track, testing the car’s ride, handling and performance. He was also seen unleashing the power in several standing starts. Full of praise when he jumped out of the driver’s seat of the world’s most powerful production car. Jenson commented: “It sounds like a jet engine! You think of an EV as quiet but it’s not. The torque is astronomical. It’s amazing, it puts a big smile on your face. “It feels like a spaceship, the drivability and direction in the steering certainly lets you know you are driving a Lotus; I am amazed by the agility of it. It is a Lotus of the future and I can’t wait to drive my own Evija.” Jenson also got the chance to turn back the clock and drive Emerson’s 1972 Lotus Type 72. The car that helped Emerson clinch his first driver’s championship. Jenson Button added: “It’s lovely to get into a bit of racing history. There isn’t a lot of space, but everything is in the right position. It was easy to heel and toe. It’s a real privilege to drive such a special car.” A stunning piece of contemporary automotive design – the work of a team led by Lotus Design Director Russell Carr – the Evija features a dramatic Venturi tunnel through each rear quarter, giving it a truly breath-taking presence. With driving dynamics overseen by the team of Gavan Kershaw, the world-renowned Vehicle Attributes Director for Lotus, the Evija is a car like no other.
PAGE 1 1 | THE MUSKERTEER | LOTUS
Inside, the theme of luxury and bespoke design continues. Black leather interior with gold contrast stitching can be found throughout the cabin, along with exclusive roof liner stitching, plus gold finishes to the air vent surrounds, centre rotary dial, start/stop button and pedals.
of motorsport’s most admired drivers, it is always emotional whenever Emerson is reunited with the Lotus Type 72, which he describes as the greatest car he ever raced.”
MEET WRITER & ILLUSTRATOR
James Mayhew I’m a Suffolk boy at heart. Although life and work has taken me to many other parts of the UK, Suffolk has always been calling me back… When I was a child I always drew, and loved exploring the Suffolk countryside, sketchbook in hand. I think I got my love of stories from my family, who often retold tales and legends about Bungay.
Last year also saw the first ever Black Shuck festival, celebrating the famous legend, which I opened with a new narrative poem retelling the story. It’s hoped this will become an annual festival too, celebrating the folk-lore and stories of the region, and taking place on or around August 4th, the anniversary of the Black Dog visitation in 1577. My latest book is a collaboration with my Spanish husband Toto, who, when he’s not cooking his famous tapas for local customers is an accomplished artist in his own right. The book is an inclusive fairy tale called The Frog’s Kiss, and published on May 11th 2023. Life here is rich and wonderful - I know I’m very lucky.
It’s often said that the big skies and gentle light are good for artists, and certainly the region is full of them. When I decided to make the move back to East Anglia, Bungay was top of my list. One of the things I love about living here is the strong sense of community. Writing and illustrating can be a solitary career,

PAGE 13 | THE MUSKERTEER | JAMES MAYHEW
My grandparents ran The Fleece in Bungay during the 1940s; my mother and her two younger brothers grew up there, and, later, loved to scare me with tales of the mysterious “Grey Lady” who haunted them, and, of course, “The Black Dog Of Bungay”. They filled my young head with myths and imaginings, so it was, perhaps, inevitable I’d end up writing and illustrating for a career. I’ve been creating picture books for young children for over thirty years now, but it’s still a thrill to see an idea grow into a book, and to send it out into the world. I don’t work digitally, all my illustrations are drawn, painted and created by hand.
but here I am surrounded by other creatives and good friends; everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It’s one of the reasons why I try to get involved in community projects like the Dog-Eared Children’s Book Festival. Together with illustrator Pam Smy we established this festival last year at the town’s Fisher Theatre. It’s the first children’s book festival in the region, and it’ll be back in June 2023, bigger and even better.
COMBINING THE CARE OF THE LAND...
...with the care of people Nestled on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk lies a very special farm. Covering 143 acres, the Clinks Care Farm uniquely combines the love and care of the land with a therapeutic space for disadvantaged or vulnerable people to learn and grow.
PAGE 14 | THE MUSKERTEER | CLINKS CARE FARM
This award-winning social enterprise was started in 2010 and offers placements for people to use the farm to help tackle health and social care issues such as anxiety and depression. There are a range of placements available which have been cultivated to support a variety of needs and aid the development of individual skill sets. These placements include Farm Therapy, Social Care and Work Preparation placements as well as an Educational placement.
It will come as no surprise then that when Musker McIntyre became aware of the work the farm was doing, they were very keen to support it.
“From our first meeting, supporting the team at Clinks Care Farm was without question. The huge effort made by every member of the Clinks Care Farm team has paid dividends for this wonderful enterprise. The smiles on everyone’s faces as they do it shows the real good that is being done here.”
The farm environment is ideal for people who want to build up their confidence and self-esteem through the activities available on the farm. Coming to participate in farming activities at Clinks Care Farm can have a truly positive affect on mental health and physical health as the natural environment can help a recovery journey whilst developing work and social skills. The farm plays host to a wide variety and number of animals including pigs, sheep, chickens, geese and ducks as well as growing an impressive range of fruit and vegetables. The resulting produce is available for purchase at the on-site Farm Shop and via the farm’s Veg Box scheme. To support the growth and continued development of the enterprise, the charitable arm, ‘Friends of Clinks Care Farm’ was established to drive fund-raising activity. Since its inception in 2016, the charity’s work has been successful in facilitating a number of notable additions to the farm.

“Natural light and fresh air are both important factors in a workspace. Try to position your desk as close as possible to a window, so you can take advantage of these wonderful natural energy boosters.” - Dr Ranj “Creating a space that you enjoy spending time in will not only make your working day more enjoyable but could boost your productivity and help to alleviate work-related anxiety. A tidy and organised space will enable your mind to focus on the task at hand, so ensuring that you have adequate storage is important. Whether that’s a set of shelves, a sideboard or simply a drawer built into your desk to reduce surface clutter – it’s worth having a think about what will work for you.” - Dr Ranj “Finishing touches can make a world of difference when it comes to crafting a beautiful home office. For a cool, sophisticated look that will make you feel at the top of your game, introduce an extra layer of lighting. HOOK LINE SINKER:
A seafood cookbook
Hook Line Sinker is a seafood cookbook from Michelin-starred chef Galton Blackiston featuring recipes created through his lifelong love affair with fish and shellfish.
The book features over 90 recipes divided into five chapters - Quick and Easy, Small Plates, Stress-Free, Spicy Seafood and Main Courses.
Serves Four For the dipping sauce: 250ml water 2 tbsp white wine vinegar 4 tbsp lime juice 1 chilli, deseeded, finely sliced 3 garlic cloves, peeled, grated 1 small lobe of ginger, peeled, grated 8 tbsp nam pla fish sauce 4 tbsp caster sugar
For the fritters: 750g self-raising flour 750ml sparkling water ½ tsp salt ½ tsp caster sugar ½ tsp turmeric 3 large Maris Piper potatoes 12 raw tiger prawns, 3 per serving 1 litre vegetable oil, for frying 8 spring onions, chopped 1 handful of coriander, chopped
Hook Line Sinker isn’t a huge how-to reference guide, or a seafood bible to teach you everything about each fish in the sea. It’s a very personal book featuring Galton’s all-time favourite recipes, all of which have featured on his menu in some form over the years, but more importantly, are great to cook at home.
To make the dipping sauce, whisk all the ingredients together in a bow. Set aside until needed.
Further Information:
Heat the oil in a deep fat fryer to 180°C. Fold the potatoes, prawns, spring onions and coriander through the batter mix. Using your hands, shape them into fritters, making sure you have an even distribution of prawns in each fritter. Lower them into the hot oil and fry until crisp and golden brown. Remove from the fryer and drain well on kitchen paper.
Hook Line Sinker is published by Face Publications www.facepublications.com For further information please contact Anthony Hodgson on +44 (0)113 203 7378 or anthony@facepublications.com
To make the fritters, in a bowl mix together the flour, sparkling water, salt, sugar and turmeric and set aside to rest for 10 minutes. Peel the potatoes and cut into julienne strips. Peel and de-vein the tiger prawns and cut in half lengthways. Set aside.
Serve immediately with the dipping sauce.

MAKING A WISE ENERGY CHOICE
Why renewable works
The terms ‘renewable’ and ’sustainable’ are firmly embedded in our vocabulary and more and more people are looking at ways to make greener choices in all aspects of their lives, but how can we make our homes and the energy we use greener too? We caught up with Simon Palmer, MD of Wise Green Energy to answer some of our questions… Good to see you again Simon! Let’s start with the basics: what do we mean when we talk about renewable energy? “Renewable energy are natural sources of energy, such as sunlight, wind, water, geothermal heat etc, that can be used over and over again without depleting those resources or causing environmental damage in the process. Unlike fossil fuels such as gas and oil, renewable energy is abundant meaning it will never run out. “Renewable energy technology allows consumers to take back control of their own energy by allowing them to generate a cleaner alternative source of energy without relying exclusively on fossil fuel resources such as gas and oil that will continue to rise in cost and will inevitably run out. “The sun, as an example, is an incredibly powerful and abundant source of renewable energy that can be easily converted into electricity for our homes and businesses by installing solar panels. It is important to remember that you don’t need to worry about using all of the solar energy as it’s being generated, as you can now store any excess solar energy production in a battery to use later on or at night. We also offer technologies that allow you to turn the ambient heat in our atmosphere into hot water and to turn the outside air into heat through the use of heat pump technology. The opportunities truly are endless.”
“As a company, we have access to the entire market, this does open up several options for our clients, giving them a diverse range of products and manufacturers that will be suitable for most homes and budgets. This means we are able to offer tailored solutions on a budget basis all the way up to high end. No installation is a onesize fits all approach for our company. “When looking at a properties suitability for renewable energy there are various contributing factors. For example, with Solar PV, the shape, orientation, pitch and any obstructions are all things we
“We do offer technologies for heating and hot water which are both options that can be installed on Grade listed buildings and conservation areas, opening up options to those who would usually be restricted on what they are allowed to do to their homes. “We also have to consider the feasibility of the investment. It’s not all about the payback period either, which is now better than ever before due to energy price hikes, a large proportion of our clients have reported back that a major driving factor in them deciding to go green was the attractive return on investment levels offered, which will continue to rise alongside energy prices from year 1. We will always ensure our clients understand the financial and environmental benefits that a renewable energy installation would provide for them.”
Finally, where do you see the future in terms of energy resources? “At the moment, renewable energy is becoming very wellestablished. We’ve got wind farms and solar panels going up at a rate of knots. “As of the 3rd quarter of 2022, renewable energy accounted for around 36% of the UK’s electricity. This is a huge step forward. The International Energy Agency also predicts that by 2050, renewable energy will account for 80% of global power generation. As a company, we have seen a huge increase of consumer awareness surrounding energy diversity. We are now much more aware of how else we could be running our homes, taking back control from the energy companies to help restore energy security and become more self-sufficient. The future of renewable energy is at our fingertips. With ever increasing energy bills and advances in renewable technology, there has never been a better time for homeowners to explore the attractive financial and environmental benefits that renewable energy has to offer.”
PAGE 27 | THE MUSKERTEER | WISE GREEN ENERGY
So there are lots of options available but are they suitable for all types of home?
factor into our design work ensuring that the level of generation will be optimal. If your roof is not suitable, you can look at alternatives such as a ground mounted array and flat roofs, as long as there is a sufficient usable space.
