Aldeias Infantil SOS Cabo Verde lança Iniciativa YouthCan! A SOS Cabo Verde lançou na cidade da Praia, no dia 26 de setembro, a Iniciativa YouthCan! - Uma parceria global para a empregabilidade dos jovens, que busca unir a expertise das Aldeias SOS a uma rede de empresas parceiras globais e locais para garantir que jovens em situação de risco possam adquirir habilidades e independência em suas escolhas de vida.

No quadro da Federação Internacional das Aldeias Infantis SOS, dedicou-se a 3ª das 7 Iniciativas Estratégicas para o horizonte temporal 2030, ao Empoderamento de Jovens. Esta estratégia explica que a organização visa alcançar os seus objetivos e, em simultaneamente contribuir para o alcance dos ODS. A nível nacional, a Aldeias Infantis SOS Cabo Verde estabeleceu, no quadro da 3ª Iniciativa Estratégica, para o horizonte 2020, a meta de 100% dos jovens com uma ocupação remunerável ao deixarem os programas SOS. Em busca do cumprimento deste desiderato a Aldeias Infantis SOS Cabo Verde, decidiu aceitar o desafio de ser o primeiro país piloto, da região Oeste e Centro Africana, a embarcar na iniciativa YouthCan! YouthCan oferece a empresas de diversos setores a oportunidade de desenvolver o voluntariado corporativo, estimulando a responsabilidade social de suas equipas, que trabalharão na for-

mação de jovens, para que ingressem no mercado de trabalho e desenvolvam sua autonomia. Em Cabo Verde, a organização tem uma forte parceria com a empresa internacional DHL e o Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional, que afirmaram os seus compromissos com a organização através de acordos de cooperação ao abrigo da iniciativa. O compromisso do governo para com este sector foi reiterado pelo Secretário de Estado da Formação Profissional e Inovação, Pedro Lopes, na presidência do lançamento do Youth Can! Iniciativa. “O envolvimento no desemprego dos jovens tem de ser construído desta forma. A cerimónia do lançamento do YouthCan!, contou com a presença dos Secretários de Estado para a Juventude, Carlos Monteiro; e da Inovação e Formação Profissional, Pedro Lopes, e de representantes dos escritórios regional e internacional das Aldeias SOS. A animação do evento ficou por conta do grupo coral SOS Stars e o ex. interno SOS, o renomado artista Bob Mascarenhas.

Programa de Emprego e Formação de Empreendedores Uma das grandes ações estratégicas estabelecidas nesta Iniciativa, é a Implementação de um Centro vocacionado ao treinamento dos jovens SOS em competências para empregabilidade, destacando os que apresentam alguma necessidade educativa especial. O Programa irá capacitar os jovens em diferentes vertentes, de acordo com as suas habilidades e potencialidades, desde tecnologias de informação e comunicação, corte e costura, estética, transformação de produtos agrivulas entre outros. A abertura oficial do espaço, foi precedida pelo lançamento da iniciativa YouthCan! e do workshop GoTeach, promovido pela DHL, dirigido aos jovens SOS. O programa está sediado na antiga instalação do Jardim infantil SOS na Aldeia Assomada, que foi encerrado no final do ano letivo 2017/18.

Jorge Baluca Sousa Lopes O pioneiro da SOS que abraçou a carreira musical Jorge Baluca Sousa Lopes, músico, residente nos Estados Unidos da América, pertence ao primeiro grupo de crianças acolhidas na Aldeia SOS da Assomada. Tinha quatro anos de idade quando foi acolhido, e é uma das crianças que aparecem na fotografia ao colo do fundador das Aldeias SOS, Hermann Gmeiner, quando, em 1984, se deslocara a Cabo Verde para, juntamente com o falecido Presidente da República, Aristides Pereira, inaugurar a primeira Aldeia Infantil SOS Cabo Verde.

Ela nunca nos deixou sentir que éramos filhos adotados. Sempre nos deu aquele carinho de mãe”, indicou Baluca, acrescentando que a sua mãe biológica lhe tem apontado a senhora Margarida Garcia como sendo também sua mãe. Garante que quando vem a Cabo Verde, faz questão de visitar a sua mãe-SOS Margarida, hoje reformada, para não perder a ligação. Nos EUA, tem a sua banda musical Afrika Rainbow, que se dedica ao estilo de musica Reggae. Além de espetáculos, já conta com um trabalho discográfico no mercado. “Tudo o que sou hoje fica a dever-se à SOS. Toda a educação que tenho deve-se à minha Margarida e à SOS”, afirma Baluca, que é bisneto de Bibinha Cabral, famosa intérprete do finason. 10

Instado a enderaçar uma mensagem aos jovens, disse que em primeiro lugar as pessoas devem ter a noção sobre o que é oportunidade e saber como aproveitá-la. Inicialmente, quando uma pessoa chega à SOS, alega Baluca, fica com alguma revolta porque não compreende por que motivo está lá. “À medida que vamos crescendo, vamos vendo que temos oportunidades que outros meninos que vivem à nossa volta gostariam de ter e não têm”, sublinhou o antigo interno da Aldeia SOS de Assomada.

The SOS pioneer who embraced the music career Jorge Baluca Sousa Lopes, musician, resident in the United States of America, is part of the first group of children cared in the SOS Village of Assomada. Carlos Gonçalves Operador de máquinas e árbitro de Futsal aos fins de semana Carlos Gonçalves nasceu no bairro do Paiol, na Cidade da Praia, e aos quatro anos de idade foi acolhido na Aldeia Infantil SOS Assomada. Isto aconteceu em 1990. Foi na Casa Familiar nº 2, como diz, que encontrou a sua grande mamã Anastácia, uma mulher que classifica de garra, assim como todas as outras Mães e Tias-SOS que por lá passaram ou que ainda continuam lá.

oje, vive em Portugal, mais concretamente na cidade de Aveiro, onde tem a sua família constituída, da qual fazem parte a esposa Catarina e dois filhos, Carlos Filipe e Diogo Filipe, cinco e dois anos respetivamente. O Especial Jovens SOS falou com o Caluzinho, como é conhecido, a partir de Aveiro, e não escondeu o “orgulho e alegria” em partilhar a sua experiência de passagem pela Aldeia SOS Assomada. “São tantas coisas maravilhosas que tenho para dizer sobre a minha passagem pela Aldeia SOS, que dava até para escrever um livro”, afirma Carlos Gonçalves, que destaca a educação como uma das melhores virtudes que adquiriu na Aldeia. À semelhança de outros meninos que foram acolhidos na Aldeia, Carlos também enfrentou dificuldades, enquanto criança que precisava de uma proteção. 12

Na Aldeia SOS, segundo ele, teve tudo, a começar pela educação, alimentação equilibrada, amor, carinho, formação, entre outros benefícios. “São coisas que qualquer criança do mundo necessita e sem dúvida que eu não as teria se não fosse acolhido pela enorme Família SOS”, congratula-se Carlos Gonçalves. Aos 19 anos, concluiu o 12º ano e obteve uma bolsa de estudo da Aldeia SOS para fazer o curso superior em Engenharia, Computadores e Telemática, na Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal. Reconhece, entretanto, que não soube aproveitar a oportunidade e deixou os estudos para trabalhar, mas não conseguiu um emprego em Aveiro, pelo que teve que arrumar com destino a Lisboa, onde encontrou trabalho no sector da construção civil. Passados cinco meses, regressou a Aveiro e fez mu-

dança do curso de Engenharia para o da Contabilidade que, no entanto, teve de novo que interromper. Atualmente, trabalha na Empresa Bosh, como operador de máquinas e aos fins de semana, durante a época desportiva, é arbitro de Futsal, na categoria C4. “Neste momento, a minha luta tem sido, de segunda a sexta-feira, a trabalhar na “Bosh” e, juntamente com a minha maravilhosa companheira Catarina, cuidar dos nossos filhos”, revelou o antigo interno da Aldeia SOS Assomada. Reconhece, porém, que hoje as coisas poderiam ter

sido mais fáceis se tivesse aproveitado o “tempo passado, desde de 2005”. Está sempre em contacto com a sua mamã SOS Anastácia e garante que acompanha, através das redes sociais, as notícias publicadas no site da Aldeias SOS. “Sigo com frequência o nosso grandioso Dionísio Simões Pereira, a quem dou um obrigado especial e envio um grande abraço”, conclui. Edson Gonçalves O educador que prepara jovens SOS para reintegrarem nas suas comunidades Nasceu no bairro de Bela Vista, Cidade da Praia, e em 1998, aos 8 anos de idade, chegou à Aldeia SOS de Assomada. Hoje é licenciado em Ciências Políticas e Administração Pública pelo Instituto Superior de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais (ISCJS) e desempenha as funções de educador de jovens na Aldeia que o viu crescer.

Segundo ele, na SOS encontrou uma nova família que o ajudou a ser homem. “Aqui encontrei todo um ambiente favorável ao meu crescimento, enquanto homem. Deixei para atrás uma irmã biológica e ganhei mais nove irmãos”, regozija-se o educador de jovens. Afirma que na SOS, enquanto criança, lhe foi dada a educação, e sempre foi acompanhado de um processo que o orientou ao nível académico e psicológico. “Também tive uma educação cristã dentro e fora da Aldeia. O meu primeiro emprego numa estação de abastecimento de combustiveis em Assomada foi mais um aprendizado”, sublinha o educador de jovens. 14

Portanto, trabalha no sentido de os orientar para uma vida autonoma quando dexam os programas SOS. “Aqui no Lar Juvenil recebem a formação contínua, assim como o acompanhamento necessário”, indicou Edson Gonçalves. Na sua opinião, os jovens devem “aproveitar no máximo” a oportunidade que a Aldeia lhes oferece. “A educação e a formação são as únicas coisas que podemos levar daqui”, conclui.

Marvim Fernandes O jovem empreendedor que se dedica a pequenos negócios Marvim Fernandes veio de São Vicente em 2003, com seis anos de idade, para ingressar na Aldeia SOS de Ribeirão Chiqueiro, São Domingos, onde diz ter sido acolhido por uma família que lhe deu a felicidade, contribuindo, assim, para que hoje fosse o homem que é.

Hoje com uma vida independente, Marvim dedica-se a pequenos negócios entre Praia e Mindelo (São Vicente), sua cidade natal, diz-se realizado pelo fato de ter constituído a sua família depois de, aos 20 anos de idade, ter deixado a Aldeia SOS. A mulher e o filho continuam na Cidade da Praia, enquanto ele em São Vicente. “Às vezes, desloco-me à Praia para fazer as compras e, quando não tenho a disponibilidade de lá ir, é a minha mulher que me envia as mercadorias que vendo em São Vicente”, revela Marvim Fernandes. Neste momento, o maior desejo deste antigo interno da Aldeia é continuar os estudos, fazendo uma formação na área do desporto. “Tenho boas recordações da Aldeia SOS, porque foi graças a esta organização que consegui ser homem”, congratula-se Marvim Fernandes, que destaca a sua mãe-SOS Maria Felicidade, mais conhecida por Dada, por tudo que fez para educar os seus filhos SOS. Maria Helena Sanches Hoje estou a devolver à Aldeia o que ela me deu na infância

“Consegui ter uma boa educação, o que contribuiu para o sucesso na minha vida profissional.” Maria Helena Sanches, hoje com 34 anos de idade, tinha três, quando chegou à Aldeia SOS Assomada, na companhia de um irmão mais velho. Foi em 1987 e lá esteve durante 18 anos. Primeiro trabalhou numa papelaria na cidade de Assomada e mais tarde iniciou a sua licenciatura em Psicologia, na Universidade Jean-Piaget, em Cabo Verde mas foi no Brasil que fez a sua graduação universitária. Atualmente, trabalha como técnica de terreno no projeto Escola de Família em São Domingos

Osvaldo Varela O serralheiro que trabalha por conta própria Osvaldo Semedo Varela foi acolhido na Aldeia com sete anos de idade. Veio de uma família da localidade de Saltos Acima, interior do município de Santa Cruz, na ilha de Santiago. Formou-se no ramo de serralharia mecânica e alumínio, e o seu serviço tem sido muito apreciado pelos clientes que o solicitam, pelo que, já pensa em constituir uma microempresa no setor da serralharia e alumínio.

o mundo competitivo de hoje é necessário sabermos para onde e como queremos ir e principalmente de que forma queremos chegar até o lugar desejado. Eu quero ser um serralheiro de sucesso com empresa própria, que além de garantir o meu autoemprego, posso gerar outros postos de trabalho”. Essas são as palavras do nosso jovem altruísta, Osvaldo Varela. Hoje com uma vida independente, uma família constituída, Osvaldo lembra com saudades os momentos vividos na Aldeia. “Lá vivíamos como se fossemos irmãos nascidos da mesma mãe e do mesmo pai biológicos, embora pudessem acontecer algumas “guerrinhas” próprias de crianças”, enfatiza Varela. “Durante o tempo em que estive na SOS, pude contar com visitas regulares da minha mãe”, congratula-se o antigo interno que reconhece o carinho que a sua mãe biológica sempre lhe dispensou, mesmo não estando diretamente sob os seus cuidados. Aos jovens SOS apela no sentido de continuarem a ter “bons comportamentos” e tirem o melhor aproveito da oportunidade que se lhes oferece. “Estudem porque na Aldeia têm chance de fazer muitas coisas boas para que quando deixarem a instituição terem uma boa vida”, concluiu.

Ruana da Graça Ex-beneficiária do Centro Social SOS do Mindelo que faz Gestão de Hotelaria e Turismo Ruana Rodrigues da Graça, hoje estudante universitária, regozija-se pelo fato de ter sido beneficiária do Centro Social SOS do Mindelo, juntamente com mais cinco irmãos. Corria o ano de 2009 quando começou a frequentar, como externa, este espaço que acolhe crianças e adolescentes em situação de rua. Dificuldades económicas e sociais fizeram com que a mãe procurasse este Centro para lhe ajudar na educação dos filhos

António Correia Monteiro O menino da Aldeia SOS que se tornou professor de Educação Física António Correia Monteiro é professor de Educação Física no Liceu Amílcar Cabral, Assomada, Santa Catarina. Chegou à Aldeia SOS Assomada em 1989, com cinco anos de idade. Foi acolhido na casa número 7 pela mãe Lourença, que depois de deixar a Aldeia, porque casou, foi substituída pela mãe Martinha, hoje na reforma.

riundo de Gil Bispo, zona vizinha da cidade de Assomada, este órfão de pai conta que a sua mãe frequentava muito o Programa Materno-Infantil e o pessoal desta instituição sabia que ela tinha muitos filhos e, por isso, indicou aos responsáveis da Aldeia que havia uma senhora com 12 filhos e cujo marido tinha falecido. “Éramos três que viemos para a Aldeia, mas a minha mãe não quis deixar a mais nova, alegando que não podia ficar sozinha”, revela António Monteiro, conhecido por Tony. Segundo ele, embora ainda hoje haja convívio na Aldeia, antigamente era muito mais forte. “Tínhamos uma relação de irmãos para irmãos”, considera António Monteiro. Afirma que a sua relação com a mãe-SOS é “espetacular” e considera-a como se fosse a sua mãe biológica. Está muito grato pelo que a Al-

deia tem feito por ele. “Se tivesse crescido naquele ambiente da minha localidade de Gil Bispo, talvez, hoje não teria a educação que tenho”, salienta o antigo interno da Aldeia SOS de Assomada que considera ter tido uma “vida de luxo”, algo que a sua mãe biológica não tinha condições para de lhe proporcionar. “Na Aldeia, nada me faltou, tive sempre do bom e do melhor e não há dinheiro que possa pagar o que a SOS fez por mim”, agradece António Monteiro. Em 2015, concluiu a formação superior em Educação Física e logo candidatou-se a uma vaga no Liceu Pedro Verona Pires, na ilha do Fogo. Em 2017, foi transferido para o Liceu Amílcar Cabral, em Assomada, onde também foi aluno. Aos jovens, apela para que nunca desistam do que querem na vida e “tenham sempre aquela ambição maior para poderem atingir os seus objetivos”.

Domingos Silva O chefe de cozinha Domingos Silva foi sempre um jovem muito ativo e abraçador de iniciativas novas. Experimentou a construção civil antes de dar os primeiros passos na culinária, que passou a ser a sua paixão. Desenvolveu os seus dotes, tornando-se hoje no cozinheiro-chefe, na ilha turística do Sal como cozinheiro-chefe. Tinha sete anos de idade quando, pela primeira vez, pisou a Aldeia SOS de Assomada. Deixou-a aos 20 anos, e formou-se na Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo.

Salvador Almeida Gonçalves “O cientista da SOS” Dotado de uma capacidade invejável, em termos de cálculo, raciocínio e memória, Salvador Almeida Gonçalves é tido, até agora, como um dos meninos mais brilhantes que já passaram pela Aldeia SOS. O seu feitio não era de estar a correr para cima e para baixo na Aldeia. Estava sempre sentado no seu cantinho atrás de jogos de xadrez ou de algum outro, que requer criatividade e solução fora da caixa. Daí ter ganho a alcunha de cientista a nível da SOS. Por causa das suas capacidades raras, foi encorajado pela Aldeia, quando escolheu o curso de Engenharia Informática, porque se viu nele um elemento com grande capacidade de programação. Infelizmente, ainda não concluiu.

Ermanio Ricciulli O voluntário da SOS Ermanio Ricciulli era uma criança de quatro anos quando foi acolhido na casa nº 5 dirigida pela MãeSOS Maria Alice, na Aldeia de Assomada. Atualmente é um dos voluntários da organização e, recentemente, se formou em Ciências Políticas e Administração Pública.

Ivan Bettencourt “Menino de rua” que se fez homem no Centro Social SOS Chama-se Ivan Bettencourt. Não conhece o pai e a mãe muito cedo emigrou para Itália. Chegou ao Centro Social SOS quando tinha dez anos. O seu lar eram as ruas do Mindelo. O padrasto garantia-lhe tudo, mas, como ele próprio admite, “por falta de juízo na cabeça”, abandonou a escola para se juntar aos meninos que viviam nas ruas da cidade.

“A

o todo, éramos 15 rapazes recolhidos na rua pela Dra. Isaura (antiga presidente da Câmara Municipal de São Vicente), mas nem todos souberam aproveitar esta bonita oportunidade de vida que tiveram”, diz Ivan Bettencourt, lamentando o fato de alguns colegas terem abandonado o Centro. Segundo ele, os outros meninos “não tiveram a cabeça no lugar” e, por isso, preferiram voltar à vida que tinham antes de irem para o Centro, ou seja, o mundo das drogas e da delinquência. “Tínhamos uma vida “sábi” (estável) no Centro. Éramos todos amigos uns dos outros e nada nos faltava”, revelou o jovem de 29 anos que outrora vivia em situação de rua. No Centro, adquiriu uma

formação no sector da carpintaria, mas é a dança a sua verdadeira paixão. Hoje exerce as funções de barman e balairino na turística ilha do Sal, onde vive na companhia da mulher com quem se casou e tem uma filha de cinco anos. Aos 18 anos de idade deixou o Centro Social para cumprir o serviço militar obrigatório, tendo, durante o recrutamento, aperfeiçoado a arte da carpintaria. O sonho do Ivan cruza-se com o da nossa organização que é de ver os jovens livres da droga, do álcool e de outros males sociais. “Espero que um dia os atuais meninos, que vivem em situação de rua, deixem esta vida para levarem uma vida normal, como Deus nos deu”, apela Ivan Bettencourt.

Jeremias Furtado O jovem de iniciativas próprias que deseja criar a sua empresa de construção civil Jeremias Furtado, 31 anos, chegou à Aldeia SOS de Assomada em 1998 e, apesar dos problemas auditivos, conseguiu superar todos os obstáculos que à vida lhe apresentou. Na Aldeia, foi sempre um jovem de iniciativas próprias. Além de ter sido o melhor capoeirista da Aldeia, chegou a jogar numa equipa federada de futebol, na Praia. Fez um curso de pintor de construção civil e, quando ganha obras grandes, convida os colegas da SOS para trabalhar com ele. Jeremias Furtado é um dos casos de sucesso, assim como os outros dois irmãos que se encontram em formação superior em Portugal e Brasil, respetivamente. Concerta telemóveis, televisões, gosta de carpintaria, mas o seu prato forte é a pintura, aérea em que se formou no Centro do Emprego e Formação Profissional de Assomada. Como pintor, consegue dar emprego a alguns jovens. Mas o seu objetivo maior é o de criar uma pequena empresa, tendo como sócios os jovens SOS. “Com os meus antigos companheiros da Aldeia é mais fácil porque nos conhecemos bem e assim não haverá pro-

blemas”, indicou Jeremias Furtado, para quem a educação que se recebe na SOS “não mistura com a que poderia ter, caso não fosse acolhido na Aldeia”. Além do mais não gosta de trabalhar na companhia de pessoas que fumam e consomem álcool. Diz que guarda “gratas recordações” da casa numero 10 que o acolheu, assim como da mãe-SOS, Maria Teresa, que o educou desde a tenra idade. “Deixei a SOS, mas tenho saudades de lá”, afirma, acrescentando que sempre que pode passa para visitar a Aldeia. Atualmente, Jeremias vive na Várzea, na companhia de um filho e da sua mãe.

The young man who wants to create their civil construction company by own initiatives In 1998, Jeremias Furtado, 31, came to the SOS Children’s Village- Assomada and, despite hearing problems, he managed to overcome all the obstacles that life presented him. In Village, he was always a young man with his own initiatives. In addition to being the best capoeirista of Village, he even played in a football team, in Praia. He did a painter course of construction and, when he wins great works, he invites colleagues from SOS to work with him. Jeremiah Furtado is one of the success stories, as well as two other brothers who are in higher education in Portugal and Brazil, respectively. He repairs mobile phones, televisions, likes carpentry, but its strong passion is painting, area in which he graduated from the Employment and Professional Training Center of Assomada. As painter, can provide jobs for some young people. But their biggest goal is to create a small business, having as partners the young SOS. “With my old colleagues from the Village it is easier because we know each other well and there will be no problems,” said Jeremias Furtado, for whom the education that is received at SOS “does not mix with what it could have if it were not accepted in the Village. Besides, he does not like working in the company of people who smoke and consume alcohol. He says that he keeps “grateful memories” of the house number 10 that welcomed him, as well as the mother-SOS, Maria Teresa, who educated him since an early age. “I left the SOS, but I miss there,” he says, adding that whenever he can go to visit the village. Currently, Jeremiah lives in the Varzea, together with a son and their mother.

Mãe Margarida Garcia Assistiu à inauguração da primeira Aldeia Infantil SOS Cabo Verde Margarida Maria Tavares Garcia, Mãe-SOS reformada desde 2006, assistiu à inauguração da primeira Aldeia SOS, localizada na cidade de Assomada, Santa Catarina. Não tem filho biológico, mas considera serem filhos os que passaram pelas suas mãos na Aldeia SOS.

Estava em Santo Antão para onde se deslocara ao serviço da Igreja Católica para a evangelização na Freguesia de Nossa Senhora do Livramento, quando viu um anúncio publicado no extinto “Jornal Voz di Povo” de que se precisavam de mulheres solteiras para servirem na Aldeia SOS, em que todos os meninos são irmãos. “Simpatizei-me com a ideia e quinze dias depois da minha chegada à Praia, comecei a trabalhar na Aldeia Infantil SOS”, disse Margarida Garcia que carrega consigo um manancial de história da vida da Aldeia, que formou crianças desprotegidas que hoje são homens e mulheres 38

“lançados no mundo”. Aliás, os seus “filhos” reconhecem nesta senhora a sua capacidade de educadora. Segundo ela, a antiga Primeira-Dama, Carlina Pereira, esposa do primeiro Presidente da República de Cabo Verde, Aristides Pereira, ambos falecidos, foi presidente de honra da Aldeia SOS Assomada, tendo-lhe batizado uma “filha” de nome Janice, atualmente emigrante em França. Jorge Baluca e a sua irmã, de acordo com esta Mãe-SOS na reforma, foram os primeiros “filhos” que recebeu na casa número 9 que governou durante muitos anos e que tem o nome da ilha de

Santiago. “A Maria José, hoje, Conselheiro do Departamento de Recursos Humanos e Desenvolvimento Organizacional da SOS Cabo Verde, era a mais velha de todos”, indicou Margarida Garcia. Instada sobre a sua experiência de lidar com crianças que não sejam filhos biológicos, respondeu nesses termos: “É preciso muita pedagogia porque cada menino tem a sua particularidade. Os filhos de pais com problemas do álcool, drogas ou deficiência mental são mais difíceis, pois muitas vezes iam à Aldeia fazer disparates”. Margarida Garcia sente-se feliz pelo fato de nunca ter sido incomodada por este tipo de pais, mas lamenta ter presenciado cenas que aconteceram com colegas mães de outros lares. Na sua casa, ao todo, tinha 11 “filhos” porque, diz ela, chegou um casal de gémeos e eles “não podiam ser separados”. Chegou a receber no seu lar um bebé de dois meses, filho de uma mãe que sofre de doença mental, que hoje está no 11º ano. “Ele vai agora a S. Vicente, uma viagem que lhe foi atribuída como prémio pelas boas notas que ele conse-

guiu”, precisou Margarida Garcia, ajuntando que o seu “filho” tem passado sempre o fim de semana com ela, inclusive, este ano, apareceu nas vésperas da festa de S. Lourenço para a ajudar nos preparativos. Mesmo aposentada, mantém uma boa relação com os atuais e antigos internos da Aldeia. O dia-a-dia no nosso lar era passado de seguinte maneira, conforme descreve a “mãe” Margarida: “Todos trabalhavam e cada um a sua tarefa. Elaborava um plano mensal sobre a atividade de cada um, mas este plano passou a ser quinzenal e a distribuição das tarefas mudava de forma alternada. Por exemplo, se este mês coubesse a um grupo lavar as loiças, no próximo um outro grupo é que fazia a tarefa, e assim, sucessivamente”. Perguntada se nunca experimentou dissabores com os seus “filhos”, respondeu, por entre sorrisos: “Mais ou menos. Na idade da adolescência… adolescência é uma fase muito crítica e, por isso, temos que usar pedagogia”. Além de Mãe-SOS, Margarida Garcia é também poetisa. A sua humildade não lhe permite que seja classificada como tal.

Children of parents with alcohol problems, drugs or mental disabilities are more difficult because they often go to the Village to make nonsense. “ Margarida Garcia is happy that she has never been bothered by this type of parents, but she regrets having seen scenes that happened to other mothers in other homes. In their home, in total, was 11 “children” because, she says, came a couple of twins and they “could not be separated.” She received in their home a baby with two-month-old, who is son of a mother suffering from mental illness.

Now attended year 11 of secondary school. “He goes now to S. Vicente, a trip that was awarded him as a prize for the good grades he got,” said Margarida Garcia, adding that his “son” has always spent the weekend with her, including this year, appeared on the eve of S. Lourenço party to help with the preparations. Even retired, maintains a good relationship with the current and former inmates of the Village. The day-to day life in our home was passed as follows, as described by “mother” Margarida: “Everyone worked and each one has its task. She elaborated a monthly plan on the

activity of each one, but this plan chanced to be biweekly and the distribution of the tasks changed alternately. For example, if this month could fit a group washing dishes, next will be another group to do the job, and so on. “ Asked if she had ever experienced any discomfort with her “children,” she replied through smiles: “More or less. In the age of adolescence ... Adolescence is a very critical stage and therefore we have to use pedagogy “. Besides Mother-SOS, Margarida Garcia is also a poet. Their humility does not allow him to be classified as such.
