Greetings from the Albany Public Schools Foundation!
We are quickly approaching our iRun for Kids event, which will take place on March 14 . This annual event brings together our community to support local schools and students. If you haven’t already signed up, there is still time to participate. Your involvement helps make a positive impact, and we would love your support! th
I'd like to tell you about one of our programs that really demonstrates how we support our students. Our Student Assistance Program plays an important role in making a positive difference for them. This program is unique and very meaningful. Our Foundation believes that every student should have an opportunity to succeed. The Student Assistance Program strives to break down barriers in K-12 and post-secondary education due to issues such as housing insecurity, financial challenges, and limited parental support. Our three high schools collectively choose 6 students to participate in this program. Each student is paired with a mentor for not only emotional support, but also to help the student navigate their first year of college. The mentor is given a grant to spend solely on the student for necessities, such as laptops, dorm room supplies, clothing, and other needed items. The students receive a 4-year scholarship that can be renewed each year If you are interested in helping us fund this program, please donate here. Your support will allow us to add more students to the program next year.
iSwim for Kids is quickly approaching. On April 25 , we will welcome students in the Greater Albany Public Schools to participate in our swim-a-thon. The event is free to all students, but each student is encouraged to raise $4000 in pledges to receive a free t-shirt. Each year, we try to raise funds to sponsor swimmers so that our students who do not have the means to raise the pledges can still earn a t-shirt. If you would like to sponsor a student, please click here. The students have the chance to earn a hot chocolate party for their class, or money for their school. The funds we raise will go towards our Classroom Grants program. th
Scholarship applications are now open! If you know a senior in the GAPS district, encourage them to check out our website. We have more than $272,000 in scholarships available, thanks to incredible support from our community.
iRetire—Yes you can!! is coming up on May 7 at 6:00 pm at the Comfort Inn Suites in Albany. We want to invite you to a FREE seminar on how to retire. Eric King with Bridges Wealth Management is our sponsor as well as our guest speaker Please sign up now and reserve your spot Please note, this seminar will not be covering PERS retirement. We will be holding a PERS iRetire later this year. th “

In closing, I wanted to share with you that now, more than ev of our largest funding sources has cut back on how much gr this year. Let me reassure you that the Albany Public Schools F lack of funding means is we will have to cut back on our funding f means of grants. Many grants will go unfunded and that breaks our heart
Your continued generosity makes a real difference, especially during challenging times like these. Together, we can ensure our teachers and students have the resources they need to thrive. Thank you for standing with us and for being such an important part of our community
Have a wonderful March and enjoy the start of spring.
