“Though February is short, it is filled with lots of love and sweet surprises.”
Charmaine J. Forde

January was a busy month for us as we prepare for iRun for Kids on March 14 . I want to thank all of our sponsors who have stepped up to support this popular community event. A huge shout-out to JACKSON AUTO GROUP-Albany Hyundai, Albany Subaru, Albany Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, and Lava Car Wash for being our Golden Apple Presenting Sponsor. th

I want to encourage you to sign up to walk or run our 5K, or for you more experienced runners, to sign up for our 10-mile race. For the kindergartners through 2 grade, be sure to sign up for the Little Leprechaun Dash. You can start the dash with your favorite mascot!

NEW THIS YEAR: This year, you can sponsor a student runner by donating and marking your funds for "Sponsor a Student Runner." Your support will cover registration fees and enable more students to participate with friends.

Scholarships are ready to open! The scholarship portal will open on February 13 and close on March 13 . If you know a graduating senior in the Greater Albany Public School District, please let them know to apply for a scholarship. This year, we will be awarding over $271,000 in scholarships that can be used at accredited trade schools, community colleges, or universities. Thanks to our wonderful community donors for their support of our youth here in Albany. Together, we will make a difference to these students as they embark on a college education.

I want to say a special thank you to all of you who thought of us with your year-end giving. I know things might be tight for many of you, so I deeply appreciate your generosity. I heard a speaker last week say that many of our students show up at school not only with their backpacks and books, but also with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Many care for siblings or work a part-time job to help support their family. With your support, we hope to make their school experience more impactful and enjoyable. The grants that we provide to teachers and administrators do just that. They offer something new and exciting beyond their textbooks. We hope it opens their eyes to new possibilities. Thanks so much for your support!

Have a wonderful February and we look forward to seeing you at iRun for Kids on March 14th

Take care

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH

CALAPOOIA MIDDLE SCHOOL

On Friday, January 30th, we held an Open House for Peely's Odds and Ends Room, so teachers could shop in person and take what they needed for their classrooms. The things in this room are odd bits and bobs donated to us throughout the year that we can't use in our standard inventory for Peely's Teacher Supply House.

We were especially happy for the teacher from Periwinkle who got the big stuffed moose, and the Graphic Arts teacher from South who got the (very expensive) printer that's been sitting back there for about a year. We also had a librarian come by who was *very excited* about our children's book collection, and nearly cleaned us out!

Several teachers came prepared with wagons and filled them up! Books, binders, cork boards, desk organizing supplies, etc. They were ready. We will hold another Odds and Ends shopping event in the fall/winter when the new school year starts. (We need time to accumulate new stuff!)
