The mission of the Foundation is to generate and distribute resources that enrich and enhance educational opportunities for all students, encourage teachers to implement innovative education programs, and award scholarships to Greater Albany Public School District students

Our Strategic Plan
The Albany Public Schools Foundation will secure resources from various community sources to support Albany Public School District educational and enrichment programs for which school funds are not available. These programs will stimulate excellence in and mobilize community support for enhancing the quality of education in the District The Foundation will inform the community about the strengths and innovative programs in the public schools to build confidence in the schools and encourage community and business financial and non-financial support
How We Started
Albany Public Schools Foundation was formed and incorporated in 1984 by a group of concerned citizens to help meet the educational needs of youth in the Greater Albany Public School District With an initial donation of $500, the Foundation was financially established and has flourished with the generous support of local community leaders and businesses
From the initial donation, the Foundation’s assets have grown to a total of $6 million as of fiscal year 202526. The Foundation manages over $3.8 million in endowments that have been primarily established for scholarship purposes through bequests and other planned gifts.
Currently, the Albany Public Schools Foundation’s board of directors is made up of 18 members. These dedicated individuals include active and retired teachers and administrators, local business leaders and dedicated community members.
Your sponsorship of the Albany Public Schools Foundation will impact 21 schools and over 8,500 students.

Potential topics include:
“How your estate plan can benefit you, your loved ones, and your favorite charity”, focusing on estate planning
“How to Make Your Retirement Dreams Come True”, focusing on the traditional retirement process.
The APSF partners with professionals in our community to provide you with information about securing the future of your loved ones while leaving a legacy for public school students. This event is open to the public.
Attendance: Approximately 20-40 philanthropic donors and community members who want to learn how to leave a legacy in Albany.
Lunch & Learn Evening Edition
PERS Retirement Planning Event! This event focuses on how to navigate the complicated PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) retirement process. All staff from the Greater Albany Public School District are invited to attend.
Attendance: Approximately 60-80 teachers and staff from GAPS within 10 years of retirement.

Donate a Live or Silent Auction Item for iCelebrate!
Our auctions are a huge part of iCelebrate, and we need the help of our community to put together unique and interesting auction item packages that our attendees will want to bid on.
LIVE AUCTION ITEMS:
Generally we consider a live auction item to be valued at a minimum of $1,000 These are typically experiences, vacations, large golf packages, services, jewelry, and other large or valuable items such as outdoor furniture. There are many possibilities!
Businesses who donate an item or service for our live auction will have their logo displayed on our live auction poster boards. Your name will also be in our auction program. We will often combine separate larger donated items to create one live item package
Example: In the past, this has been done with a BBQ Grill from a hardware store, and a “BBQ Grill Box” of fresh meat from a butcher, along with some additional accessories. Each of these items were donated from different people and were all credited as donors. We do not take consignments
SILENT AUCTION ITEMS:
The silent auction is open to all attendees, and we are looking for items of all kinds that anyone can afford. Price range: $20-$500 (approximately). Silent auction items can be anything, be creative! Some examples of silent auction items include:
Holiday themed baskets, home decor, sports gear/memorabilia, pet items, movie themed baskets, tickets to a play/show, admission to museums or theme parks... the possibilities are endless
Please refrain from donating your own branded merchandise for our silent auction, if possible Businesses who donate silent auction items may include contact info and/or brochures/flyers about your business within your basket.

iRun for Kids is an annual race to support the activities and programs of the Albany Public Schools Foundation. The race is comprised of a 5K and a 10 mile run, and a “Little Leprechaun Dash” for little runners. This event is open to the community and is fun for the whole family!
Location: West Albany High School Track
Attendance: 500+ runners and walkers (kids & adults)

Each SAP Student Receives:
$2,000 per year scholarship for up to 4 years A mentor to help transition from high school to college or trade school
$1,500 stipend for first-year expenses (laptop, dorm supplies, etc)
The SAP Program costs $10,000 per student
The Albany Public Schools Foundation makes it easy for you to set up a scholarship in the name of a business, individual, or in memory of a loved one. The Foundation will manage the entire scholarship process including: application, review, funds disbursement, student communications and reporting.
