GLOSSARY

August 15 - September 1 ALASKA STATE FAIR

"Reach for the Stars" at the 2026 ALASKA STATE FAIR!

Meet our 2026 Theme Artist!

Untraditional is the word to describe Karla Morreira's artwork. Splashes of vibrant color move across the paper, creating images filled with life. Marine images inspired by a deep relationship with the sea, years spent diving, beach- combing, and fishing the warm waters off Maui, and the cold sea of Alaska have given her an affinity for our underwater kingdom. Now having lived in Alaska for over 34 years, Karla has added ravens, moose, bears and wolves to her resume! Painting from her life’s experience, rather than from photos, each image expresses her love for what she does and where she lives. Though primarily a watercolorist, Karla also works in stained glass with her husband Roy. They divide their time gardening, working and exploring Alaska with their Jack Russells, Kolohe & Makani Kai and now are lucky to have two more Jack Russells [Kalani & Makoa] to share Alaska with!

Little Bear has been all over the Fair and, oh dear, he left one of his stars somewhere in this catalog. Can you spot it?
