Santos and Repsol announced first oil at Pikka on May 18. While it’s a milestone for the companies, it’s also part of a building renaissance of oil and gas exploration and development on the North Slope. Combined with an exceptional lease sale in National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska in March and the ongoing excitement over Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG project, many are looking forward to more years of robust oil and gas industry activity.
Regardless of other projects, Pikka’s accomplishment is worth celebrating. The state-of-the-art facility will produce oil and generate revenue for Alaska for decades to come.
