THE MORE THE MERRIER

WITH EXTERNAL global factors continuing to play havoc with holiday plans across the world, Confused.com has found that families in the UK continue to prioritise their time away together, with 64% having travelled abroad last year.

According to Confused.com’s latest research, the majority of UK parents (84%) feel its important for their children to experience life outside of their home country, with two thirds stating they travel abroad with their children at least once a year.

The decision on whether their children join usually depends on destination appeal (36%), school/university schedules (29%), and affordability for the parent(s) (29%). In terms of destination choice, over half of parents decide the location themselves, whereas 37% involve their children in the planning stages.

The bank of Mum and Dad remains open for holiday spending right through into

adulthood. Almost nine-in-10 (89%) of respondents with grown up children said they have been away with them since turning 18. 87% of those parents also cover one or more holiday costs for their adult children, including accommodation (78%), transport in the destination (74%), and flights (69%).

The funding doesn’t stop there: nearly half of respondents revealed they have contributed towards their children’s holidays abroad without them.

As children grow, so too might their guest list. Almost half of parents state they would allow their child to bring a partner (48%) or a friend (47%) with them on a family holiday, with 67% of parents stating they would also contribute financially to have them join. Almost half (45%) would offer to pay for accommodation, while 47% would pay for food and drinks, 42% for activities and excursions, and 32% would even offer to pay for flights.

Last month, representatives from Air Mauritius and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority met with agents, hoteliers and UK media to present the island’s evolving tourism strategy. The new dynamic sees the national carrier and the tourist agency work in tandem to create a refreshed ‘slow luxury’ initiative.

Dinesh Burrenchobay, chairman at the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said, “For Destination Mauritius, it is fundamental that the MTPA works closely with our national airline in ensuring a seamless option across various cities for the visitors of our tropical paradise.”

Nestled in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is known as one of the world’s most romantic honeymoon destinations,

but also attracts solo travellers, adventurers, families and culture seekers. It has never been easier for UK visitors to travel to the island gem, as Air Mauritius provides five non-stop weekly flights from London Gatwick.

“We are Mauritius. Everything we do reflects the warmth, authenticity and unique spirit of our island nation,” said Laurent Reccoura, chief commercial officer for Air Mauritius.
