Deer Park Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Important Akaysha Energy is committed to the delivery, development and deployment of large-scale batteries and renewables around the world.

This critical piece of energy infrastructure will help secure the energy supply in Victoria, by providing storage of excess energy generated during off peak hours for use during high demand periods.

We are proposing to develop a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Ravenhall, Victoria.

In doing so, it will help stabilse the grid and deliver more affordable, reliable energy.

What is a Battery Energy Storage System?

Where will the BESS be located, and what is its capacity?

The Deer Park BESS functions as a robust, rechargeable battery for the power grid. It captures excess energy from various sources from the grid, including solar and wind, to store for later use. This stored energy can be rapidly released back into the grid during periods of high demand or when renewable generation is low, helping to balance supply and demand and ensure a reliable flow of electricity.

The BESS is proposed to be built at 490 Christies Road, Ravenhall, adjacent to the existing Deer Park Terminal Station. The BESS will be built on approximately 6 hectares (ha) of undeveloped land. The BESS is being designed for a capacity of 275 MW / 1100 MWh providing up to 4 hours of energy storage, delivered using world-class leading battery technology.

What is the proposed timeline for the project?* Akaysha Energy are seeking a minor amendment to the existing permit for the approved BESS. This first stage involves detailed planning studies. The approval process will commence with the submission of our designs and plans to Melton City Council. Following planning approvals, we will commence construction in early 2027.
