Blood Brothers

Written

Brothers tells the tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet with fateful consequences.

Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award-winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production ran for more than 10,000 performances in London’s West End and has been affectionately christened the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it ‘Brings the audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval’ (Daily Mail)

The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True

COLD WAR INTRIGUE COMES ALIVE ON-STAGE

Ralf Little stars in The Spy Who Came In From The Cold.

A global bestseller for more than 60 years, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold by John le Carré is coming to the stage for the very first time. The Spy Who Came In From The Cold gripped global readers with its tale of espionage and deception and now, in 2026, you have an unmissable opportunity to experience all of its moral tension live.

Following sold-out runs in Chichester and London’s West End, this critically-acclaimed production is about to embark on an extensive UK tour. Adapted for the stage by awardwinning playwright David Eldridge and directed by Jeremy Herrin, this fascinating interpretation plunges audiences into the shadowy world of the Cold War as world-weary British spy Alec Leamas is sent on one final mission into East Germany, an oppressive, secretive and surveillance state behind the Iron Curtain.

Drawn into a dangerous web of deception, Leamas must blur truth and lies to protect a greater strategy. As his mission unfolds, and passions are unleashed, he discovers the human cost of espionage in a world where trust is fleeting, loyalty dangerous, and love is seen as an act of treason.

Actor Ralf Little, best known for Death in Paradise, The Royle Family and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps stars as Alec Leamas. Speaking about the role, Ralf said, ‘It’s a huge privilege to be stepping into the shoes of one of John le Carré’s great literary creations. I first read The Spy Who Came In From The Cold when I was sixteen, and it’s stayed with me ever since.

David Eldridge’s script brilliantly captures the high-stakes world of East–West intrigue. Despite being written in the 60s, it feels startlingly relevant to the times we’re living in now.’

Behind the production is acclaimed company The Ink Factory, founded by le Carré’s sons Stephen and Simon Cornwell. Experts in bringing their father’s stories to new audiences, their credits include The Night Manager, The Little Drummer Girl, and A Most Wanted Man.

Now, working with Second Half Productions, audiences across the country are invited to experience le Carré’s masterpiece anew in an unmissable night of tension, drama and emotional power.

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold

Second Half Productions and The Ink Factory present The Chichester Festival Theatre production of The Spy Who Came In From The Cold. The spy novel that changed everything. Now live on-stage.

For the first time ever, a novel by John le Carré – the undisputed master of the modern spy genre whose works include Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Night Manager –is brought to life in a thrilling stage adaptation.

Starring Ralf Little (The Royle Family, Death In Paradise), The Spy Who Came In From The Cold is a riveting journey through the fog-shrouded terrain of Cold War espionage, deception and moral compromise.

Following a sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre and direct from the West End, this gripping new play written by David Eldridge (Beginning, Middle, End) and directed by Jeremy Herrin (Grace Pervades; People, Places & Things) comes to Richmond for one week only. Ages 12+

This production contains strong and derogatory language prevalent in the period, including anti-Semitism, and depictions of violence including torture and gunshots.

I’m Sorry, Prime Minister

From the BAFTA Award-winning co-creator of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister, Jonathan Lynn, comes the long-awaited final chapter of British political satire –and it is as cunning, cutting and catastrophically funny as ever.

Jim Hacker (Simon Rouse) is back – older, but perhaps not wiser, and still utterly baffled by the real world. While trying to enjoy a quiet retirement at Hacker college, Jim finds himself facing the ultimate modern crisis: cancelled by the college committee. Enter the delightfully devious Sir Humphrey Appleby (Clive Francis)

Can Humphrey outmanoeuvre the meddling students, or is it finally time to say, ‘I’m Sorry, Prime Minister’?

Brimming with razor-sharp wit and nostalgic brilliance, this is political comedy at its most timeless – and timely!

★★★★ ‘Enjoyable, nostalgic, poignant. It brings the house down!’ – The Telegraph

‘Memories of a perfect TV show came flooding back.’

A JOYFUL REUNION

Dame Maureen Lipman and Peter Quilter team up again for the world premiere of Allegra.

Get ready for theatre magic as Dame Maureen Lipman joins forces with Tony® Award and twotime Olivier Award-nominated playwright Peter Quilter for Allegra, a new production coming to Richmond this June.

Of course, this isn’t a new pairing. They both worked on the West End hit Glorious! the story of the ‘worst singer in the world,’ Florence Foster Jenkins. Now they’re back, and the buzz is already building.

‘In a world that feels increasingly dark and chaotic, the chance to play someone who simply radiates happiness felt essential.’

The new play centres on Allegra, a woman who simply can’t stop singing. Played by Lipman, Allegra spreads joy wherever she goes – whether people want it or not. It’s a heartwarming premise that explores how the world responds to relentless optimism and what happens when someone’s defining characteristic becomes impossible to ignore.

For Lipman, the decision to work with Quilter again was a no-brainer. After pestering him for years about their next collaboration (‘Please stop calling me,’ he’d joke), this script stopped her in her tracks.

It could have been written for Maureen because her late husband, the playwright Jack Rosenthal used to say, ‘If she’s not singing, watch out.’

Quilter’s inspiration came by chance from real life.

Living in Spain, he’d been visiting a relative in a residential care home when he encountered a woman who sang constantly. ‘Wherever you were, you’d hear her in the distance, singing ‘Oh, la Rosa de la Mancha!’ he recalls. What fascinated him wasn’t just her endless singing, but how people reacted –some delighted, while others desperately wanted her to stop. That contrast became the heart of the play. ‘This woman was just giving out joy’ Quilter explains. But reactions were mixed. ‘Allegra is a comedy, but flowing underneath is something deeper – how we care for people losing their grip on reality, and how society copes with vulnerability.’

With Quilter’s fresh storytelling paired with Lipman’s star power and three-time Olivier Award-winner Director/Choreographer Stephen Mear at the helm, Richmond audiences are in for something special.

The play asks a simple question, what would you do with someone like Allegra? How would you react to someone so innocently spreading happiness in her wake? With such a quirky conundrum in Quilter and Lipman’s hands, the question promises to be both hilarious and surprisingly moving.

From Olivier and Tony© Award nominated playwright Peter Quilter, the writer behind End of the Rainbow and Glorious!, comes a brand new heartwarming comedy with music, created for audiences who love unforgettable characters and a truly special night at the theatre.

National treasure Dame Maureen Lipman takes centre stage as Allegra, marking her first UK tour in 20 years. Beloved by millions for her role in Coronation Street and celebrated for her extraordinary career across stage and screen, Dame Maureen brings her trademark warmth, wit and emotional depth to this funny and deeply moving new play.

Allegra is full of life, joy and an irresistible urge to sing. She bursts into song at home, in the street and even in the local shops and cafés. Sometimes the orchestra plays only in her imagination. Sometimes it spills gloriously into the real world, much to the delight, confusion and occasional horror of everyone around her.

Directed and choreographed by three-time Olivier Awardwinner Stephen Mear, this uplifting production also features familiar faces including Bailey Patrick of Bridgerton, John Middleton, known to many from Coronation Street and Emmerdale, and Elizabeth Bower of Coronation Street

FROM PAGE TO STAGE: MALORY TOWERS REIMAGINED

Emma Rice talks music, memories and the magic of turning Malory Towers into a theatrical adventure.

What inspired you to adapt Malory Towers for the stage?

These books make me joyfully tumble through memories of my own scary comprehensive, to stories of my Mum’s Dorset grammar school and then to my Gran who was an untrained teacher in the war. All these stories have one thing in common – growing up. Malory Towers is the best story about growing up! Funny, and well observed, these books are a pure delight. I also wanted to capture that time, just after the Second World War, when people were bruised and damaged but also creating a better future. Enid Blyton’s simple books explore these themes and they’re themes that stand the test of time, asking us girls to be ‘women that the world can lean on.’ I love them.

How will you integrate sound and music into Malory Towers?

This production has the most virtuosic score and soundtrack. My cast are all exceptional singers and the close harmony songs will knock your socks off! We have gorgeous tunes from the time, mixed with newly composed songs by Ian Ross, my long-term collaborator. The result is soaring, impressive and moving.

How did you balance putting your own stamp onto Blyton’s work?

I haven’t deviated too much from the books. The characters are all true to Enid Blyton, as is the setting and message. I wove together the best bits from all the books, but it’s essentially the Malory Towers you all know and love.

Is this a show for all the family to enjoy?

Absolutely. The themes of friendship, compassion and hope resonate across gender, time, class and culture. It’s a cracking yarn, yes, but this deceptively simple subject matter really does give us all a chance to reflect about growing up, about war, empathy and about our own part in history.

And finally, why should theatregoers get along to see the show?

Because it is pure entertainment and pure joy. It has everything; music, puppetry, film… and a clifftop rescue!

‘Themes of friendship, compassion and hope resonate across gender, time, class and culture.’

Malory Towers

From the novels by Enid Blyton, it’s back by popular demand! Emma Rice Company’s Malory Towers is touring the UK again.

Get ready for high jinks, high drama and high spirits, all set to sensational live music. Darrell Rivers is starting school with an eager mind and fierce heart. Unfortunately she also has a quick temper! Can she learn to tolerate the infuriating Gwendoline Lacey, or value the kind-hearted Sally Hope? Can she save the school play and rescue terrified Mary Lou from the grip of a raging storm? If she can do these things anywhere, she will do them at Malory Towers!

Nostalgic, naughty and perfect for now, Malory Towers is the original ‘Girl Power’ story. This is a show for girls, boys and all grown-up children who still dream of midnight feasts and Cornish clifftops. Ages 8+

Tamzin Outhwaite stars as one of the most iconic characters in British theatre in Mike Leigh’s ferocious black comedy of suburban life in the 1970s.
