Welcome to the third edition of the I.G.N.I.T.E. Newsletter! As we close the final quarter of 2025, we reflect with pride on a season filled with service, scholarship, sisterhood, and significance. The Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter continues to uphold the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® through impactful programming, meaningful partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to our community. In this edition, we are proud to spotlight one of our valued community partners, Helping Mamas, an organization where our donations and volunteerism continue to support mothers in need by providing essential baby items and resources for their families. Thank you to every soror who has generously given her time, talent, and treasure in support of our collective vision to continue to SOAR in Service and Sisterhood. Helping Mama’s Community Partner Highlight

Helping Mama’s is one of Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter’s Community Partners. We proudly partner with Helping Mamas to support babies, children, and families by addressing critical needs such as diaper insecurity and period poverty. Through hands-on service and donations, UAO sorors help provide essential items—including diapers, wipes, and hygiene products to families servedthroughHelpingMamas’networkofcommunitypartners.

Ourwork together primarily centers on alleviating "basic needs poverty" through severalkeyinitiatives:

1. Signature "Community Impact" Days

UAO often chooses Helping Mamas as a site for their major service days (such as MLK Day of Service or AKA Impact Days). During these events, large groups of sororitymembersvolunteerattheNorcrosswarehouseto:

Inventory and Sort: Process thousands of donated items, including clothing, strollers,andtoys.

DiaperWrapping: Repackage bulk diapers into smaller, customized packs for distributiontolocalfamilies.

Kit Assembly: Create "Nursery Needs" kits or period product packs for studentsandmothers.

2. Targeted Donation Drives

Throughout the year, UAO organizes specific collection drives within the Gwinnett community to benefit Helping Mamas. They often focus on high-need itemsthatarenotcoveredbygovernmentassistance(likeWICorSNAP),suchas:

Diapers andWipes: Essential for families tokeep children in childcare (which oftenrequiresadailysupply).

PeriodProducts:Supportingthe"fightagainstperiodpoverty"initiative.

Safe Sleep Items: Collecting pack-n-plays and new crib sheets to ensure infantshaveasafeplacetosleep.

UAO is proud to continue this partnership where we are able to see the immediateimpactontheGwinnettCountycommunityinwhichweserve.

SEPTEMBER Chapter Meeting

After a refreshing summer break, we reconvened for our September Chapter Meeting, marking the beginning of the last half of the year. Sorors reunited with warm embraces, renewed energy, and a shared excitement for the work ahead.Throughcollaborationanda commitment to excellence, UAO is engaged, and ready to continue servingourcommunity.

Sororsreunitedwithwarmembraces,renewedenergy,andasharedexcitementfor theworkahead.Fromthemomenttheyenteredtheroom,theatmospherewasfilled with sisterly love, genuine connection, and a collective commitment to excellence. UAOandTauPiChaptercametogetherforapowerfulandpurposeful jointchaptermeeting.MembersproudlyworepinkinhonorofBreast CancerAwarenessMonth,showingsolidarityandsupportforsurvivors andthosecurrentlybattlingthedisease.

Followingthemeeting,membersgatheredforamentor-menteelunchat oneoftheirfavoritelocalMexicanrestaurants.Itwastrulyabeautiful dayofconductingAKAbusinesswhilestrengtheningthebondsof sisterhoodthroughfellowshipandmentorship.Theeventreflectedthe chapters’continuedcommitmenttoservice,support,andupliftingone another.

SororscelebratingOctoberbirthdayswerejoyfully recognizedduringthechaptermeetingastheymarked anotheryearoflife,service,andsisterhood.Inabeautiful displayofloveandappreciation,thechaptergathered togethertosing“HappyBirthday,”fillingtheroomwith smilesandheartfeltcheer.

Followingthemeeting,memberspausedtohonorthese specialwomenwithwarmwishes,genuinefellowship,and deliciouscupcakessharedamongsisters.Thecelebration wasasweetconclusiontoaproductivemeetinganda reflectionofthechapter’scontinuedcommitmentto celebratingoneanother.

DECEMBER ChapterMeeting

At the December Chapter Meeting, sorors gathered in the true spirit of celebration and sisterhood.Ahighlightofthemeetingwasthe recognition of our Silver Sorors for their unwavering service and meaningful contributions over the years. Their journey reflectsalegacyofexcellence,mentorship,and devotionthatcontinuestoinspiresororsacross generations.

Thechapterwasalsoproudtoacknowledgethe generous support of DAP Warehouse, which donated a $1,250 scholarship check to further our commitment to educational advancement. This contribution will directly support deservingstudentsandstrengthenourongoing scholarshipinitiatives.

In addition to this special recognition, several sororswereacknowledgedfortheiroutstanding service and continued dedication to the chapter’swork.Itwasanupliftinggatheringthat reinforcedthestrengthofoursisterhoodaswe continuetheworkwithpurposeandpassion.

Executive Board Meeting

As the year came to a close, the UAO Executive Board gathered for an in person December meeting. The atmosphere was festive as we began to celebrate the holiday season. Sorors enjoyed a potato bar and special thank you gifts from Madam Basileus for their dedication to UAO for 2025.

UAO Reclamation Event

The UAO Reclamation Event was a huge success, providing a welcoming space for reconnection. The event welcomed inactive sorors and encouraged them to reconnect with Alpha Kappa Alpha by reactivating with UAO. Attendees included inactive members, general members and active sorors (seeking a new chapter).

TheDebutantesattendedaCommunication&Personality Workshop for their first event. The workshop was designedtostrengtheneffectivecommunicationandselfexpression. Participants explored how personality traits influencecommunicationstyleswhiledevelopingskillsin active listening, clear expression, and confident interaction. Etiquette Workshop

TheDebutantesandJr.Escortsparticipatedinanengaging Etiquette Workshop. The workshop focused on building confidence, poise, and social grace. Participants learned essential skills such as proper introductions, dining etiquette, and respectful communication, tools that will serve them well in both social and professional settings. Effective Communication Workshop

Thank you Soror Valeta Chappelle for facilitating the Debutante’s Effective Communication Workshop focused on building confidence, clarity, and strong interpersonal skills. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participantslearnedtheimportanceofactivelistening,thoughtfulexpression,and respectfuldialogue.

Financial Literacy Workshop

The Debutantes and Jr. Escorts participated in a Financial Literacy Workshop. The focus was to equip them with essential tools for smart money management. Participants gained foundational knowledge in budgeting, saving, and financial responsibility, empoweringthemtomakeinformeddecisionsnowandinthefuture. We appreciate Mr. Markel Bryant, the facilitator, for a very informativeworkshop.

The Debutantes gathered for an empowering and unforgettable retreat designed to uplift, educate, and strengthen their sisterly bond. Workshops and Interactive games encouraged teamwork, communication, and confidencebuilding among the young ladies as they connected and created lasting memories. They enjoyedgreatfoodandfellowship,engagingin conversations that strengthened their connections.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Debutantes and their mothers enjoyed a Mother Daughter Tea at the St. Ives Country Club. The theme was “Pearls of WisdomPetalsofLove. ThemothersandDebsbeganthedaywithaphotoshoot andthenenjoyedadelightfulafternoonteaandlunch.SororKristiMcBrideand herdaughter,SororKendalynMcBride,servedasthemistressesofceremonies. soror Suzanne Fountain provided the History of High Tea and Soror Peyton Whitted was the inspiring guest speaker for the afternoon. The debutantes honored their mothers with personal gifts of art, poetry and letters. The mother/daughter duos shared an affirmation and a parade of fashion. The UAO Step & Stroll Squad continues to promote wellness in motion by encouraging sorors to stay active through regular stepping andstrollingactivities.This initiative blends physical fitness with fellowship, creating space for accountability, motivation, andmeaningfulconnection. One year after its inaugural meeting, the Moms of Future Medical Doctors Soror Squad has more than doubled in size. Their vision was simple yet powerful:tocreateasupportivecommunityforSororswithstudentsnavigating thecomplexanddemandingpathtomedicalschool. Theirholidaybrunchwas filledwithfellowship,reflection,andinspiringstoriesfromtheirfuturedoctors sharingtheirjourneysandmilestones.Watchingthemsupportandupliftone anotherwastrulyheartwarming!

Soror LaTasha Aikerson faithfully served as President of the North Metro National Pan-Hellenic Council from 2023–2025, leading with vision, collaboration,andastrongcommitmenttocommunityimpact.

During her tenure, Soror LaTasha achieved several notable accomplishments, includingexpandingtheNorthMetroNPHCfrom11chaptersto14chapters, representing approximately 2,300 Divine Nine members throughout Gwinnett CountyandthesurroundingNorthMetroAtlantaarea.Underherleadership,the council awarded $6,500 in scholarships over two years, further supporting educationaladvancementwithinthecommunity.
