Greetings Sorors,
As we step into a new month of purpose and connection, I am filled with gratitude for the strength, grace, and unity that define the Gamma Theta Omega Chapter. Each issue of The ConnectHer is a reminder of how beautifully our sisterhood weaves together service, leadership, and love and this month, we extend that love to the world around us as we honor Earth Day.
Earth Day calls us to pause and reflect on the incredible gift of the planet we share. It invites us to consider how our daily choices big and small shape the health and future of our environment. As women of Alpha Kappa Alpha, stewardship is not new to us. It is embedded in our legacy. It is reflected in the way we nurture our communities, uplift one another, and commit ourselves to meaningful, lasting impact.
This month, I encourage each of us to embrace the spirit of Earth Day with intention. Whether we participate in community cleanups, reduce waste in our homes, plant something new, or simply encourage others to be mindful of our environment.
Let us continue to lead with compassion, purpose, and a deep respect for the world that sustains us. May this issue inspire you to reconnect with nature, recommit to sustainability, and remember that caring for the earth is another way we care for each other.

The Community Service Committee demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment in coordinating the 73rd SARC initiative As an ExtraLarge chapter, Gamma Theta Omega was tasked with contributing 240 items, and we proudly exceeded that goal by donating 361 items. In the spirit of collaboration and sisterhood, an additional 25 items were shared with Zeta Upsilon to support them in meeting their commitment

Grief Share
Grief Share remains a powerful source of healing and support. This 13-week, Christ-centered program provides a safe space for individuals navigating loss. Through expert-led videos, small group discussions, and guided reflection, participants find comfort and community.
To date, two full cycles have been completed, serving an average of eight participants per cycle and delivering 195 service units. This initiative continues to remind us that sisterhood extends into care, compassion, and emotional support. We appreciate Sorors Tina, Sorors Davina and the entire committee of facilitators for their dedication.

Our Emerging Young Leaders are stepping boldly into leadership. During their April meeting, these rising leaders explored what it means to feel confident, embody confidence, and project it with intention. Each moment of learning continues to shape their voice and presence. They are now preparing for their upcoming graduation celebration, marking a meaningful milestone in their ongoing growth and development. We are grateful to Soror Cortnie and Soror Samaria for their dedication to our future leaders.

2026 MISS TEENAGE TAMPA SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT: THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
The anticipation is undeniable, the 2026 Miss Teenage Tampa Scholarship Pageant is only days away as we approach this histor 50th anniversary with excitement, pride, and gratitude.
Our celebration began with a sold-out tribute honoring Soror Tangela D. Dupree, our 2026 Honoree. Supported by our Basileu and leadership team, and led by Soror Iva Carter, Chairman, and Soror Lacquitta Berry, the program beautifully showcased Soror Tangela’s enduring legacy of service and commitment to youth. Sorors, family, friends, and community leaders shared heartfelt reflections that affirmed her far-reaching impact.
The Miss Teenage Tampa contestants added a captivating touch, drawing inspiration from the elegance of Bridgerton with fascinators, lace gloves, and poised presentation. This experienc was thoughtfully designed by Soror Rockhelle Johnson, Soror Xaykevia Stribling, Soror Tracy Malcom, Soror Samanthia Paris, and Soror Netta McKissic, setting the tone for what lies ahead.
With the stage set and the crown awaiting, the countdown is on. Prepare for an unforgettable celebration of crowns, courage, and community.

MEMBERSHIP
The Gamma Theta Omega Chapter’s Membership Committee successfully h Annual Transfer and Reactivated Members Orientation on Saturday, Marc 2026, at the West Tampa Branch Library’s Tony Garcia Jr Community Ro creating a welcoming and engaging space for members who joined the cha within the past year. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to d their understanding of the chapter’s culture, protocols, and processes whi building meaningful connections with fellow sorors
Centered around the chapter’s theme, Better 2gether, the orientation highlighted the value that each transfer and reactivated soror brings to the chapter. Through shared experiences, collaboration, and renewed commitment, these members strengthen the chapter’s ability to serve the community and foster a thriving sisterhood.
The event, hosted by the Membership Committee Chairman, Soror Jackie Marcelin, featured warm greetings from Chapter Basileus, Soror Deidre Jones, who encouraged all members to get involved and reminded attendees that collective efforts are what make the chapter stronger. Chapter First Anti-Basileus, Soror Patrice Joseph, offered an informative overview of chapter programs and committees, and opportunities for engagement while one the three membership cochairmen, Soror LaTina McKinon, shared insights on hostess groups. Soror Jacquelyn Reese, the Pecunious Grammateus, shared insights about the chapter members’ financial obligations. Soror Laurell Jones, President of the Ivy Enrichment Foundation of Tampa Bay, provided valuable information about the foundation’s history, along with the impactful programs and scholarships it supports.
In addition to the informative sessions, participants enjoyed a delicious meal and took part in an interactive icebreaker activity that encouraged connection and sisterliness. The event concluded with a lively door prize activity led by Soror SaLisa Berrien, where five transfer and reactivated sorors were awarded prizes. Closing remarks were provided by the Membership Committee Chairman
Overall, the orientation embodied the spirit of Better 2gether, reinforcing that the collective talents, experiences, and dedication of transfer and reactivated members play a vital role in enhancing the chapter’s impact, strengthening sisterly bonds, and advancing the sorority’s mission of service to all mankind.

Theme: Celebrating 50 Years of Crowns, Courage & Communit A Kaleidoscope of Greatness
The chapter proudly hosted a memorable Miss Teenage Tampa Appreciation Luncheon in honor of Soror Tangela D. DuPree a highlighting our Miss Teenage Tampa contestants. This year ’ s celebration was especially meaningful as it embraced the pow theme: “Celebrating 50 Years of Crowns, Courage & Communi Kaleidoscope of Greatness.”
The luncheon reflected the spirit of this milestone themehono decades of empowering young women and celebrating the bril and resilience that the pageant has inspired. Soror Tangela wa recognized for her visionary leadership, steadfast commitmen countless contributions she has made to ensure the pageant re beacon of opportunity and excellence for local teens. Our 202 Teenage Tampa contestants shined brightly while delivering noteworthy speeches.
This successful and beautifully executed event was made poss through the outstanding leadership of General MTAT Chairma Ty Codner and Luncheon Chairmen Soror Iva Carter and Soro Lacquitta Fullilove Berry. Their creativity, organization, and dedication brought the luncheon to life, creating an atmosphe with gratitude, elegance, and sisterly pride. The committee’s h ensured that every detail reflected the legacy and future of th Teenage Tampa Pageant.

Although available in pink or green, our chapter will proudly wear the green blazers for our official photo this September. This blazer reflects our shared sisterhood, our chapter’s identity, and the strength we bring to the community.
