As Alpha Gamma Omega approaches her 98th anniversary, we pause to honor the extraordinary journey that began when we were chartered on Saturday, October 1, 1927. As the first alumnae chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® west of the Rockies and now the largest west of the Mississippi, we carry a history that is both trailblazing and inspiring. What started as the vision of 11 courageous charter members has blossomed into a legacy of excellence, service, and unwavering sisterhood. Today, with 253 members strong, we continue to build upon
the foundation they laid nearly a century ago.
Each decade has added a new chapter to our story, one written by sorors who dared to dream, uplift, and make a difference in our communities From impactful programs that touch lives to initiatives that shape leaders and scholars, our chapter’s influence continues to extend far and wide.
At the heart of this legacy are our sorors who give generously their time, talents, and love. Together, we have built a sisterhood that celebrates our diversity, strengthens our bonds, and sustains us through every season. This sisterhood is our strength, and it makes Alpha Gamma Omega not just a chapter, but a cherished home.
As we celebrate 98 years, we give thanks to our 11 charter members: Dr. Alice Garrott, Coty Johnson, Edith Jones, Louise Kenner, Leola Lewis, Nadia McCullough, Ursula Murrell, Ruth M. Pearson, Dr. Vada Summerville, Neosha Tatum, and Minnie Wickliffe whose vision and courage lit the path we continue to walk today.

I hope you enjoyed the AGO tribute shared at the September Chapter meeting. We are reminded that we stand on the shoulders of these dynamic, innovative, and courageous women who worked tirelessly to establish this great chapter. Their vision and determination laid the foundation for the legacy we are blessed to continue today.
This October, as we honor our 98th anniversary, we also stand in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We celebrate the strength of our survivors, uplift those currently in the fight, and remember with love those we have lost. Their courage is woven into the fabric of our sisterhood and reminds us of the importance of advocacy, education, and support in the face of life’s challenges.
Ninety-eight years later, Alpha Gamma Omega remains strong upholding the values of service, scholarship, and sisterhood, while inspiring new generations of women to lead with purpose. As we celebrate this milestone, may we honor our charter members by carrying their torch forward with the same faith, courage, and love that brought us here.
Happy 98th Anniversary, Sorors! May we always honor our beginnings as we prepare the way for those yet to come.
With Sisterly Love, Soror Lynette K. Brooks
