News: PLASTIC TO BIOMASS: HARNESSING MICROBIAL FORCES FOR CLEANER FUTURE

Description: On October 7, 2024, AIT PhD scholar Pornya Khampratueng presented her research on using microbial solutions for sustainable plastic degradation, supervised by Anil Kumar Anal. The study focuses on degrading low-density polyethylene (LDPE), a common packaging plastic that resists natural degradation. Two bacterial strains, Bacillus sp. AS3 and Sphingobacterium sp. AS8, were isolated and combined into a consortium that significantly reduced LDPE weight and altered its structure within a month. This research offers a promising approach to managing plastic waste and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals related to responsible consumption and environmental protection. 🌐 https://ait.ac.th/2024/10/plastic-to-biomass-
