Anticipation for the American Institute of Parliamentarian’s 55th Annual Session has begun, with preparations by officers, coordinators, and local members in full swing. Our coordinator, Joy Myers, has selected a theme: “Discover Columbus.” Details of registration, schedule, and proposed amendments can be found in this Communicator and on the website. All members are warmly encouraged to attend the pre- and postsession board meetings. In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed west from Europe to reach the East Indies, supported only by 120 men in three second-hand ships (only two vessels made the return voyage). In the long five weeks it took to cross the Atlantic, who could blame Columbus if he had turned back? On the other hand, who would remember him if he had given up his quest? At the end of his journey, Columbus found neither the Indies nor gold; the journey instead yielded altogether different discoveries. We hope you will make a much less arduous voyage to the city named for this explorer. DISCOVER, from reports of chairmen and officers, what AIP has been doing in the last year. DISCOVER new approaches to parliamentary procedure, some to be learned from educational presenters, some to be observed in business meetings. DISCOVER important new printed materials that will be on hand. DISCOVER new friends with the same interest in democracy you share. This year’s business sessions will include greetings from other parliamentary organizations, voting on amendments to bylaws and standing orders, reports of officers and chairmen, and elections of of-

ficers and directors. It’s not all business, though, as educational presentations from engaging speakers are scheduled to be interspersed in the schedule. The schedule permits fellowship time as well, so we hope you meet new friends and connect with colleagues from around the globe. Be a Columbus, come to AIP’s annual session in Columbus, Ohio to DISCOVER a New World of energy, open-mindedness, and advanced scholarship.
