As we quickly approach the holiday season, I believe it is fitting to express my personal gratitude to the entire membership for its continued support of AIP. On behalf of the officers and directors, we wish you and your families nothing but the best throughout the holiday season!
The American Institute of Parliamentarians Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure (2nd Ed) There has been a lot of activity going on since the summer. Most notable has been the much-anticipated release of the second edition of The American Institute of Parliamentarians Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure (AIPSC2). AIPSC2 first became available through Amazon in both Kindle and paperback on September 28, 2023, just prior to the American Dental Association’s 2023 House of Delegates. During the event, Kay Crews, Al Gage, and Glen Hall (all members of the authorship team), discussed the changes in the new book with about 40 members of the dental community who serve as presiding officers, parliamentarians for their respective dental organizations, or were just curious about the new volume. The presentation was very well-received and provided an opportunity for members of one of the largest professional associations that has historically relied on “Sturgis” and then AIPSC to learn what is in store. By separating the release date from the “effective date” (January 1, 2024), those organizations (like ADA) who cite the current edition of The American Institute of Parliamentarians Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure as their parliamentary authority, have been given ample opportunity to familiarize themselves with the second edition.
