The batteries’ network for the close defence of the northern part of the island (and the Partheni Bay, with the storage tunnels for fuel, torpedoes and mines) was allocated on the low uplands around the entrance (Archangelos Channel) and the heart (Port Rina). Among the four batteries of this net, the most oriental was the PL 899, between Blefouti’s Bay and Palms’ Beach, that represented the north end of the oriental chain of naval defence of the island.
It was equipped by 4 cannons Ansaldo 76/50, and it was protagonist at November 12th, 1943 of the defense against the oriental side of the German naval task force.
