PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
護理博士
DOCTOR OF NURSING
A four-year part-time clinically-based programme to broaden the clinical, managerial and academic expertise of Master’s prepared registered nurses to lead the development of the complex health care system. It focuses on enhancing students’ knowledge and skills in applying and transferring nursing science to achieve clinical excellence across a variety of health care settings. Emphasis is also placed on providing students with opportunities for effective clinical decision making, advanced nursing leadership, interprofessional collaborations and health services management. The programme also equips students with knowledge and skills in developing nursing science for the advancement of the nursing profession. The Programme will enable graduates to: • Critically evaluate concepts, theories and models of care to develop innovative evidence-based approaches for patient and client care in a complex health care environment. • Generate and effectively apply clinical nursing knowledge to inform the development of culturally and contextually relevant innovative approaches for professional nursing practice or nursing education, so as to achieve clinical excellence across a wide variety of health care settings • Appraise and evaluate social, cultural, organizational and policy issues relevant to the provision of high quality nursing services, and make effective clinical decision in managing complex health care needs • Demonstrate effective clinical nursing leadership and health care management across a wide variety of health care settings • Initiate, design, conduct and disseminate original empirical research in areas of clinical nursing and/or nursing education, and eventually contribute to expanding the body of knowledge in nursing profession •
PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS • Interactive learning activities on nursing leadership and management, advanced nursing practice, and health service evaluation conducted by internationally renowned scholars, health administrators and nurse leaders. • An intense mentored experience in formulating, implementing and evaluating evidence-based nursing practice. • A facilitated opportunity to lead an application-oriented project on evidence-based practice for the purpose of achieving clinical excellence in nursing. • A 2-week individualized clinical experience of shadowing a Nursing Practitioner or a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the United States or Canada.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme consists of the completion of a doctoral thesis based on empirical research. The research component will run throughout the programme. Students will be supervised by experienced academic staff. Students are also required to complete 4 taught courses, 3 elective courses as well as attend research seminars and a clinical practicum.

護理碩士 A clinically based programme developing advanced practice nursing in a range of clinical specialties PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION The Master of Nursing Programme is a two-year part-time clinically-based programme to develop the knowledge and competence required in advance nursing practice. It also prepares registered nurses to advance their career in the management stream by offering an intensive theoretical training and problem-based learning experience in clinical leadership, health service management, quality improvement and health outcome evaluation. The programme also aims to prepare students for pursuing postgraduate studies at the MPhil-PhD or Doctor of Nursing programme. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The programme is divided into six terms over two calendar years. Its curriculum is well designed and integrated to prepare students to become advanced practitioners in a particular clinical area. YEAR 1

YEAR 1 Year 1 consists of 5 taught courses with topics covering advanced health assessment, advance nursing interventions, clinical management, evaluation of care and research / service project methods. YEAR 2 The major focus for Year 2 is to complete an individually-supervised research / service innovation project in the students’ area of specialty practice. Students will also be required to attend two student-led seminars during Year 2.
