D’HALLUIN
530 West 25th Street, New York, NY
French painter Sylvie D’Halluin weds decoration and impromptu creativity in suggestive works of abstraction. A former garden designer, D’Halluin follows the changing colors and moods of the seasons in and around Havrincourt, a quaint countryside village in northern France, surrounded by national parks and forests. A profusion of browns, blues, yellows, and pinks enlivens the canvases, constellated by luminous metallic tones of gold, aluminum, copper, and silver. The artist’s expressive brushstrokes and free-style compositions interpret natural beauty through the unique lenses of her psychology, giving rise to paintings of refined sensitivity and candor. Through color and compositional harmony, she communicates her intimate view of the world, while encouraging an active, heartfelt dialogue with her work.
SYLVIE D’HALLUIN ON
I paint from the heart, according to my desires, moods, and that which I wish to convey through my work. I find the greatest expression of freedom in abstract art, which I approach intuitively, without following any rules or letting myself be tied to any technical constraints. I like to use acrylic on large-format canvases, playing on the contrast between translucent, opaque, and metallic colors, such as golden, aluminum, copper, or bronze leaves. Through color and compositional harmony, I communicate my intimate view of the world and encourage active connection and engagement with my work.
