Alexis Craig’s paintings are lucid visions in technicolor. Luxuriant rivers of crystals and glass, marbled striations of gold, pinks, emeralds, and rubies adorn the artist’s fanciful landscapes. Craig finds inspiration in the world of minerals, rocks, and geodes, while borrowing chromatic elements from movies and anime. Her fairylands are the answer to every child’s dreams: stones made of colorful bonbons, cerulean skies peppered with cotton candy clouds, roads paved with sparkling gems, or cascades of melted liquorice. As a mother of three who lost a daughter at a very young age, Craig finds beauty and healing in the act of creation. Her paintings have a touch of naivete and purity as she enters the imaginary with the eyes of a child, still untainted from the structured perception of adult life. “When children come across my art and I see their faces light up [...] it makes my heart smile big,” Craig says. She invites us to play fearlessly in her beautiful Lands of Oz, kindling the courage and passion we all hold within ourselves.
