Welcome to Agnes Irwin! For over 150 years, Agnes Irwin has been a place where girls take center stage. As Head of School, I see firsthand the magic that happens when the joy of community meets an unmatched academic environment. Trading Civics Lessons for the Legislative Branch. From Pennsylvania to California, Upper School senior Elizabeth Shacklett carries the traits of an Agnes Irwin graduate everywhere she goes. As she represents Pennsylvania in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), Lizzie Shacklett will have the chance to join U.S. senators as they attend meetings and briefings with other senators, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, and other officials. She will also receive a $10,000 scholarship to pursue her undergraduate studies at Stanford University.

As an Agnes Irwin girl, you can travel to Spain to immerse yourself in the language and culture. Or you might hike glaciers and scuba dive in the waters of the Icelandic countryside. You can help build homes with Habitat for Humanity. Or you might conduct experiments to learn about how food is made and composted.
Internships and Externships Learn about careers by experiencing the real thing. To date, our juniors and seniors have learned shoulder to shoulder with experts in the fields of medicine, education, publishing, architecture, historic preservation, nonprofit management, sustainability, and law.
Clubs Upper Schoolers can choose from more than 50 student-led clubs, boards, and organizations, and pursue everything from student government to STEM, a cappella, set design, nonprofit advocacy, improv, and student-published magazines, to name a few. And the best part is that this is all a part of your school day.
Spotlight: Model UN At Agnes Irwin, proposing solutions for global issues is a team sport — and it’s one we’re good at. Our girls’ empathy and wits have taken them from right here in Philadelphia to Columbia University’s Model UN Conference in New York City.

From Student TO STORYTELLER From Agnes Irwin graduate to Harvard alum, Grace Bartosh ’19, now uses her intellectual prowess as a production associate on the critically acclaimed documentary series, The American Revolution, directed by award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns. “ I love being surrounded by people who are so knowledgeable and passionate about what they do,” she said. Her time at Agnes Irwin helped establish the versatility needed for her ever-changing role, whether she’s helping track down archival maps or collaborating with animators and cartographers. Looking back, Grace reflected: “Agnes Irwin shaped me into the person I am today. With challenging academics, lacrosse and soccer, and other extracurriculars, I had to learn how to manage my responsibilities and dedicate time to each of my interests. The balance I learned proved to be an essential part of my success. I’ve learned to thrive in every area of my life.”
