Growing together: Our milestone year

Our story continues to grow, building on the care and commitment that define us. As one of England’s trusted care providers, we’re keeping vital services running, supporting our dedicated teams, and providing compassionate care to thousands of people across the country.

From humble beginnings in 1986, when our Founder and Chairman Derek Luckhurst opened his first care home, Agincourt in

Weymouth, we’ve grown to 170 locations nationwidepowered by a 5,500-strong workforce.

Still proudly family-owned, we’ve built a reputation for stability and trust over the last 40 years with no external investors and no exit plan.

That means the people we support, their families, our teams and our partners can have complete confidence knowing that we are here for the long term.

Our quarterly newsletter lands at an exciting moment for Agincare as we expand our reach of services like never before!

Inside, you’ll discover the remarkable story of our acquisition of the national charity Ambient Support.

We’re also thrilled to share news of our expanding care and nursing home provision, with new services opening in Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Weston-super-Mare.

We simply couldn’t do this without confidence in our existing services and the high quality of care delivered by our wonderful teams.

It was our unique honour to recognise extraordinary individuals from our 5,500-strong workforce at The Agincare Heroes Awards 2025 held at the stunning Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton!

Award categories included Chef of the Year, Rising Star of the Year, Outstanding Leader of the Year, Care Team of the Year and Employee of the Year.

The latter part of the ceremony was dedicated to very special awards:

The Will Mitchell Award for Outstanding Achievement and the coveted Agincare Hero Medal - presented to just five people.

Agincare’s success is good news for everyone!

We have a proud record of stepping in to protect atrisk care services. When we do, we bring reassurance to the people who rely on care and support, their loved ones, our teams, and the wider community.

Recently, we completed a landmark acquisition of the services operated by the national charity Ambient Support, including the transfer of Amber Housing Ltd, a not-for-profit housing support provider.

This acquisition safeguarded vital services for around 700 people, protected over 800 jobs, and secured the operation of around 70 homes and services across the country. As our Chief Executive,

Raina Summerson, said: “We are proud to have once again safeguarded vital services and jobs, and privileged to welcome the teams, and those who draw on care and support services, into the Agincare family.”

We are also taking on management of Sedgemoor Care Home in Westonsuper-Mare (formerly known as Dewdown House), following its planned closure under the Salvation Army.

Following Ambient’s early exit, we also assumed longterm leases and contracts for four care homes and three Extra Care schemes in Buckinghamshire.

Appointed through a rigorous and competitive council process, we worked closely with the local authority to ensure a smooth transition for residents and staff.

Together, these services continue to provide highquality nursing, dementia, and complex care for 217 publicly funded and self-funded residents.

Our swift and timely action protected 40 jobs and ensured essential care places for older people in the community for many years to come.

Building on this success, we’ve also secured an additional contract to operate five new care homes in Gloucestershire.

Lisa from Edgehill Care Home takes on Great Wall of China challenge to raise money for Prospect Hospice

Residents at Edgehill Care Home in Swindon traded their armchairs for aerobics to support their manager, Lisa Edwards, as she trained for the adventure of a lifetime - a five-day trek along China’s legendary Great Wall.

Lisa has now completed her remarkable journey, raising over £6,000 for Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

The cause is especially close to her heart as the hospice cared for her late sister, Lynsey, and continues to support both Edgehill and nearby Lansdowne Hill with

training and end-of-life care.

This incredible achievement reflects Lisa’s determination, compassion, and community spirit.

Congratulations, Lisa, you’ve made us all immensely proud!

Our Children’s Service broadens who we support

Our new not-for-profit Children’s Services will offer a safe and happy home for young people aged 8–18.

We’ll create a nurturing and supportive environment for children with a diagnosis of learning disability and/ or emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Our first children’s home, located in East Dorset, has received planning permission and is set to open in 2026. This marks the beginning of our commitment to providing high-quality care for children and young people who need it most. With our Enable service provision, we hope to offer a pathway to independence through supported living.

Furlong Close supported living service in Wiltshire rated ‘Good’ in all areas by CQC

We were delighted that Furlong Close, our flagship supported living service in Rowde, Wiltshire, has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The service was rated ‘Good’ in all areas apart from ‘Effective’ which was given a rare ‘Outstanding’ rating.

Individuals at the service praised the care team for the lasting impact they have on their lives, telling inspectors: ‘I love living here’ and ‘the staff support me with my relationships.’

Furlong Close was later visited by their local MP, Dr Brian Matthew, who met residents and took on a starring role as judge as part of a ‘Bake Off’ competition.

With its continued expansion and expertise, Agincare Enable has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s leading providers of highly-personalised care and support.

Courtney celebrates her wedding with Helen!

In August, Courtney, one of our amazing team members from our Bristol home care service, celebrated her marriage and invited Helen, one of the people she and the team support, to share in the special day.

Courtney often describes her clients as her “second family,” a reflection of the genuine care and connection she brings to her work every day. We wish Courtney and her husband Joe, a lifetime filled with love and happiness.

Julie from Victory Care Home honoured with top award

In September, we celebrated an exceptional colleague as she concluded a truly remarkable career in care.

At the Agincare Heroes Awards, Julie Marrs received our highest accolade, the Agincare Hero Medal, an honour reserved for those who demonstrate outstanding bravery, selflessness, and dedication.

After 52 years of caring for others, including 44 years at Victory Care Home in Chatham, Kent, Julie has decided it’s time to hang up her tunic. She began her career in care at just 17 and has since become a trusted mentor and role model, inspiring generations with her compassion, wisdom, and warmth.

More than a valued colleague, Julie has been a proud ambassador for Agincare, consistently championing the values that define our care. Though her daily presence at Victory will be greatly missed, Julie and her husband, Derek, have promised to stay involved and continue supporting the home they love.

Congratulations, Julie, on an extraordinary career! Please join us in wishing her a joyful, well-earned retirement!

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR TV ADVERT ON GB NEWS?

We have worked with the independent news channel for over a year, starting with two well-received radio ads.

From this promising start, the Marketing Team collaborated with a production company to create an 30-second TV ad to showcase our unique person-centred approach to care.

We are working on a new TV advert which launches in the New Year.

How live-in care helps Susan care for her father over 4,000 miles away!

Living in Florida, Susan needed to find a way for her fiercely independent dad, Ron, to remain safely at home in rural Devon.

Susan quickly saw that our live-in care service offered the perfect balance. Ron could keep his independence with peace of mind that a trained care worker was there to support him 24/7, 365 days a year.

When introduced to a few potential care workers, Ron immediately connected with Kenny. Their shared love of cooking, travel and good humour made the decision easy!

A passionate cook, Kenny recreates dishes from Ron’s favourite restaurants and ensures he stays connected through video calls and appointments.

Thanks to Kenny’s care and companionship, Ron continues to live a fulfilling, independent life, and Susan has the reassurance that her dad is in safe, trusted hands.
