Howdy Ags!

This is an exciting time for Aggie football and an exciting time for us as a company as we enter our 20th year of publishing the magazine! We wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of our corporate partners and our subscribers, so we thank you very much!

Inside this issue we feature a breakdown of the Aggie football team by position and a preview of all 12 teams we play this fall. We also got to cover the first practice of soccer camp and several practices of fall camp and we have included some of our favorite shots inside.

The Aggie football team and softball players got together for the first annual celebrity softball game this summer and we got to cover it. Inside you can check out some of the pics from the game. Some of our players are quite good at softball, while others should stick to football! They had a great time and showed what a family this team has become.

Our soccer team is already in full swing as they played two exhibitions and will play four games before the students start fall classes. Coach G has put together a great class with ten transfers and five high school recruits and they are starting to put things together. We wish them a great season.

On the gridiron, our guys have been working hard and we are super excited about year two of the Elko era. Marcel Reed is back for another year and with an experienced offensive line, healthy backfield and a lot of new talent at wide out, we have high expectations for the offense. On defense, we are excited to see a veteran team return and coach Elko calling the defense.

We feel like A&M is flying under the radar so far and that is probably a good thing. But a win in South Bend will probably change that. And then as Leon O’Neal likes to say “It will be time to Wake ‘em Up”!

Please enjoy this issue and check out the ads from our corporate partners, they are the best!

TWO SPORT ATHLETE?

Aggie running back Rueben Owens II was all smiles as he waited for his pitch at the Aggie Football Celebrity Softball Game. Owens showed he was back to form after missing last season to a leg injury. STRIKER SHEA RYAN

Coach G said “Shea is a big addition to our squad!” The sophomore forward hails from Granite Bay, California and played her freshman campaign for the University of Kansas. She appeared in 22 games and logged 421 minutes, scoring three goals and an assist. G praised her strength, speed and tenacity and said “I’m sure she will be a big favorite of our Ellis Field fans”. Texas A&M’s football team hosted an inaugural celebrity softball game called the “Mission 12” event at Davis Diamond. The event featured a game between Team Maroon and Team White, composed of football players, with some softball players making appearances. Aggie softball’s Mya Perez won the home run derby and long snapper Jacob Graham hit a walk-off home run to give the Maroon Team the victory 14-12.

SOCCER FALL CAMP

The Aggies opened fall camp on their new practice field located inside the former softball stadium. After last year’s Mexico-Brazil soccer match, the extra turf that had been added to Kyle Field for the friendly, was moved across the street to give our women’s team a practice facility. The Aggies have worked hard to build chemistry after the arrival of 15 new ladies to the program (10 transfers and 5 high school recruits). The team will play 2 exhibitions and 4 games before fall classes begin!

FOOTBALL FALL CAMP

The football team has been working hard all summer to prepare for the upcoming season. The media was allowed to come in and shoot pictures during select times of fall camp. Coach Elko and staff used last year to build a foundation and create a new culture. In year two, the players understand expectations and are working hard to bring this program to the next level.

TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Last year the Aggies learned the best way to start a season, this year they have to learn the best way to finish one. In 2024, Texas A&M got off to a great start, posting a 7-1 record. That was good enough to put A&M on top of the SEC standings and give them control of their own destiny. With their first opportunity to get into the SEC Championship the Aggies got tripped up at South Carolina, and lost a heart breaker at Auburn. But they still had one last shot, with a winner take all game against TU. Unfortunately, they were not able to finish and they ended the season 8-5.

A frustrated Elko took the stage after the bowl game loss to USC and said “We got to get better, we got to fix ‘em (the mistakes) and we got to never play like that again.” Coach Elko took responsibility and said that’s his job to make the changes necessary to fix it and he will.

Many experts say that the biggest growth that a football team will experience is between the first and second games. As the coaches get a chance to see what they have in game one and then make adjustments in game two. The same can be said for the first and second season of a new head coach.

Coach Elko was hired and immediately went to work hiring a staff and putting together his first recruiting class under a tight deadline. He had to come in and build a new foundation and change the culture. He installed a new culture based on responsibility and accountability which had not been the case under the previous staff.

Although the 8-5 record was not what we hoped for, the changes were evident and it was encouraging to see the direction of the program. Now, a year later, the foundation is set, the players understand the expectations and Elko and staff have made huge strides in the portal and high school recruiting. They have worked all spring and summer to develop players and now it’s time to go compete for championships.

The most important thing we have to do is stay healthy. Injuries to key players was a huge reason we didn’t advance to the playoffs last year. With the talent we

have, if we can stay healthy, we can win championships.

Last year, quarterback Marcel Reed took the field in the second half of the LSU game and had a breakout game that elevated A&M to victory and earned him the starting job for the rest of the season. His athleticism and running ability gave the Aggies the spark that they needed and this season he’s been given lots of help in the receiving corps to step up his passing game. Offensive coordinator Colin Klein has the perfect guy to run his offense and expectations are high for the returning starter.

Joining Reed in the quarterback room are redshirt freshman Miles O’Neil, transfer Jacob Zeno and freshman Brady Hart. O’Neil and Zeno look to compete for the backup spot, but both have the ability to lead this offense if called upon.

Reuben Owens II suffered an injury in camp last summer and missed the entire regular season. He gutted it out in the bowl game but is back to 100% and is anxious to score some touchdowns this fall. Le’Veon Moss was hurt in the South Carolina game last year and missed the rest of the season. It was arguably the biggest blow that the Aggies had and he is working hard in fall camp to play this season. Amari Daniels was the go-to guy after Owens and Moss’s injuries and the redshirt senior is excited to get his turn in the backfield this year. A newcomer that lots of folks are talking about is freshman Jamarion Morrow. He is turning heads and making an impact already. A healthy EJ Smith is back for one last season and wants to make it a good one!

For several years, the story at A&M was the questionable ability of the offensive line. But not this year! The O-Line is one of the most experienced in the SEC and they are ready to control the line of scrimmage. Starting with team captain Trey Zuhn III who returns for his senior year. He holds down the left tackle spot, but has also gotten reps at center during fall camp. Chase Bisontis is back at left guard with Mark Nabou Jr. and Kolinu”u “Koli” Faaiu competing for the starting position at center. At right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams returns for his second year with the Aggies and Reuben Fatheree II will play right

tackle. A slew of talented backups are ready to play as well.

The tight end room is one of the most versatile and talented groups in college football. Headlined by returning starter Theo Melin Ohrstrom from Sweden. Elko also added Amari Niblack from the portal. A big muscular guy with two years experience at Alabama and another year at Texas, this kid can play. He also added Nate Boerkircher from Nebraska and Micah Riley from Auburn. And don’t forget about freshman Kiotti Armstrong who showed he can also hit a softball, launching 17 home runs in the first round of the Aggie Celebrity Softball Home Run Derby.

The group getting the most noise is our wide receiver group. Reed needed weapons who could create space and make big plays and this group answered the call. Out of the portal, Elko went and got two of the best transfer receivers available in KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. The dynamic duo have the speed and twitchyness to make big plays this fall. Redshirt freshman Ashton Bethel-Roman has made great strides in the off season and is ready for a breakout year. Terry Bussey came in late with some nicks last year and went from defense to offense trying to learn the system. Now the talented sophomore is ready to show why he was a Texas high school standout! Tristan “TK” Norman leads a young set of

receivers ready to get their shot as well.

The biggest change from last year to this year will be that Coach Elko will be calling the defense. It’s the thing that Aggie fans loved when he was on the A&M coaching staff before. We are excited to see a Coach Elko defense on the field again.

The Aggies lost three stud defensive linemen from last year’s squad to the NFL. But there is still plenty of talent ready to make their mark, beginning with red shirt senior Cashius Howell. He has been “disrespected all his life”, he told reporters and it fires him up to show what he can do this fall. On the other edge, Florida transfer T.J. Searcy is ready to go. Elko brought in Tyler Onyedim from Iowa State and Dayon Hayes from Colorado and Sam M’Pemba from Georgia. Albert Regis returns for his final year and at 317 in the middle he can plug some holes. Don’t be surprised to see two sport athlete (baseball) Marco Jones get some significant playing time as well. Junior DJ Hicks is back and ready to make some noise as well. Our twelfth man Nana Boadi-Owusu is working hard to get his reps this fall.

In the middle will be the heart of our defense in captain Taurean York and a healthy Scooby Williams. Jordan Lockhart was also mentioned as someone turning heads in camp and Daymion Sanford will

play linebacker and help in nickel packages.

The most important group this fall may be our defensive backs. Tyreek Chappell returns after missing most of last season to an injury. Bryce Anderson is ready for one last ride and the Aggies are also excited to get “The Blanket” back in Will Lee III. Julian Humphrey, Jordan Shaw, Dezz Ricks, Jayvon Thomas, Jordan Pride, Bravion Rogers and Dalton Brooks make up the secondary which we expect to be much improved.

All of last year’s specialists return with Randy Bond at kicker, Tyler White at punter and long snapper Jacob Graham. Look for Terry Bussey, Reuben Owens and KC Concepcion to be returners this fall.

The key to success this fall is to stay healthy and finish games. We are hopeful that we will do both!

UTSA

Texas A&M will kick off the second year of the Mike Elko era versus the Roadrunners of UTSA. San Antonio had a tough start last season carrying a 3-5 record into November, but they had a strong finish going 4-1 to finish the year with a Myrtle Beach Bowl victory. Their offense, led by quarterback Owen McCown, finished 12th in the country last season and five of their top six receivers are back. Leading rusher Robert Henry Jr returns after rushing for over 700 yards in eleven games last year. The Roadrunners allowed over 30 points per game last season, but they were proficient in pass rushing, finishing ninth in the country in sacks. During the off season the team added defensive tackles Cameron Blaylock (Tennessee State) and Kalan Roberts-Day (Baylor). Hybrid safety Owen Pewee returns as one of their best defenders. The Aggies’ talented running game should have a big day against the Roadrunners but our defense will face an early test against a team that likes to put up lots of points.

02

UTAH STATE

In week two the Aggies are guaranteed to win! The question is will it be the Texas A&M Aggies or the Utah State Aggies. State has a brand new coach and close to 30 players transferred out after going 4-8 last season. Bronco Mendenhall takes the helm after stops at BYU, Virginia and New Mexico. He took the job in December and is working hard to rebuild the program. Quarterback Bryson Barnes is fired up to finally be QB1 in Logan. With a lot of new faces in the program, Barnes will have to work hard in camp to get everyone on the same page. The offensive line lost all five starters and Utah State added Miles Davis (BYU) and Javen Jacobs (New Mexico) in the backfield. On the defensive side, State allowed 470 yards and 38 points per game last year. They will rely on safety Ike Larsen to lead Nick Howell’s defense. Larsen earned College Sports Communicators Comeback Player of the Year and has 217 career tackles in three years of work.

Last year, the Aggies were good enough to beat an Irish team that made it to the national championship game. The Aggies ran out of time in a game that was tied at 13 with two minutes to play. This year the Aggies, with two warm up games, have a great chance to wake up the nation and beat the preseason #6 team. The Aggies will face a new defensive coordinator in Chris Ash, after Al Golden departed to the NFL. Ash still has a loaded defense with one of the best linebacking groups in the country; Drayk Bowen, Jaylen Sneed and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Notre Dame still has a great offensive line and one of the best running back tandems in the country as Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price combined for 1,800 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns last fall. But if the Aggies can stop the run, they have a redshirt freshman quarterback in CJ Carr who has never started a college game. Coach Elko’s slogan for this year is “Finish”! If the Aggies can keep it close and finish this game, it could springboard them into a special season.

AUBURN

After a heartbreaking four overtime loss to the Tigers at Auburn last year, the guys have got to have this one circled on the calendar. The Aggies were five seconds away from victory when Auburn kicked a 29 yard field goal to extend the game. Hugh Freeze begins his third year as the head coach of the Tigers and has yet to produce a winning season. He will turn to a much heralded quarterback transfer from Oklahoma to help him. Jackson Arnold is a dual threat quarterback that threw 12 touchdowns last year but the Sooners had no receivers. That won’t be a problem for him this year as the Tigers are loaded with talent at wideout. The Aggies are unfortunately familiar with Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons returns as well. They added Eric Singleton from Georgia Tech and Horatio Fields from Wake Forest in the off season. Lots of returning talent on the defense, but the Aggies proved last year they can score on them as they tallied 31 points in regulation. This is a game the Aggies are supposed to win and should win especially in front of the 12th Man.

The Bulldogs were 2-10 last year so really there is only one way for them to go this fall and that is up. The good news is they have their quarterback, Blake Shapen, back after suffering a season ending injury against Florida last year in September. Second year coach Jeff Lebby knows how to score points if he can keep his kids healthy. He went shopping for wide receivers in the portal and picked up Anthony Evans (Georgia), Markus Allen (Easter Michigan), Ayden Williams (Ole Miss), and Brenen Thompson (Oklahoma). They also have Jordan Moseley who was second on the team in receiving yards last season. The Dogs leading rusher is back and Fluff Bothwell from South Alabama joins the team. State struggled on the defensive side of the ball and their inability to stop the run should spark the attention of Coach Klein. LeVeon Moss and Amari Daniels combined for three touchdown runs last year and with Reed in the backfield it should be more of the same this season.

Marcel Reed had his first collegiate start last year in The Swamp and the Aggies dominated the Gators. Many fans thought it might be Coach Billy Napier’s final game, but the powers that be stood by him and the team rebounded to go 8-5 including a bowl victory with one of the toughest schedules in the country. During that process, they also found their new leader in quarterback DJ Lagway. Now expectations are high as Napier fields his most talented team. Lagway is the real deal and we are glad this game is at Kyle Field. Sophomore Jadan Baugh is back and the 230 pound back is a load to bring down. He runs behind the best O-Line Napier has had since he started in Gainesville. The Gators are solid on defense, but the Aggies should be able to run on them. Tyreak Sapp is one of the best pass rushers in the SEC, and the Aggies will also have to contend with George Gumbs (N. Illinois) and Kamran James. The secondary is led by Bryce Thorton who had three picks last year.

For the first time since 2013, the Southwest Classic Rivalry between A&M and Arkansas will be played in Fayetteville. The Aggies are 12-1 in their last 13 meetings with the Hogs and haven’t lost a game in Fayetteville since 1988. Sam Pittman is anxious to get this game at home and try to turn the tide. Former offensive coordinator at A&M Bobby Petrino is more than ready to have another shot at A&M. Although this rivalry has been lopsided in the win/ loss column the games are close every year. The Aggies will once again face talented quarterback Taylen Green. Who lines up behind a revamped offensive line. The Hogs lost Jaquindon Jackson at running back and brought in Mike Washington Jr from New Mexico State. The Hogs return only five defenders who played a significant amount of snaps last year. It appears the Hogs may change to a 3-3-5 defense this season instead of the 4-2-5 they ran before. Adding another linebacker on the field instead of a defensive lineman will give the Hogs a new look under defensive coordinator Travis Williams.

Last year, this contest was a game of two halves. The Tigers dominated the Aggies in the first half and then Coach Elko made a change at quarterback and the rest was history! The Aggies played the best second half of the season and Marcel Reed became QB1. After watching the Netflix feature “Any Given Saturday,” it’s pretty apparent that Coach Brian Kelly was desperate to bring back quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. The talented QB threw for over 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. In the game against A&M, he threw 3 interceptions that helped the Aggies win. The Tigers lost wide receiver CJ Daniels to Miami, but they brought in Nic Anderson (Oklahoma) and Barion Brown (Kentucky). The Weeks brothers, West, Whit and now Zach will all play linebacker for the Tigers this fall. After missing out most of the 2024 season due to an ACL injury, Harold Perkins is expected back to lead the Tiger defense. LSU will be hungry for revenge and a win over the Tigers could boost the Aggies’ resume.

The Tigers lost three year starting QB Brady Cook and now Penn State transfer Beau Pribula and Sam Horn will battle to be QB1. Eliah Drinkwitz got some help from the portal in wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. (Mississippi St) and Xavier Loyd (Illinois St) along with running back Ahmad Hardy from ULM. The Tigers bring back receivers Marquis Johnson and Joshua Manning. Mizzou has seven returning starters on a defensive squad that was 17th nationally in total defense and 20th in scoring defense. The Tigers also went out and got Big 12 Defensive freshman of the year Josiah Trotter from West Virginia and another talented safety from UNLV Jalen Catalon.

Losing LeVeon Moss in last year’s game not only affected the outcome of the contest, but absolutely affected the rest of the season for Texas A&M. At the end of the season, SC was in discussions for a potential playoff berth with a 9-3 record and this year they hope to prove that wasn’t a fluke. LeNorris Sellers had a breakout season for the Gamecocks and with a year under his belt he will be even better this year. Coach Beamer didn’t lose many players to the transfer portal and he got a nice pick up from Utah St in Rahsul Faison. The senior rushed for over 1,100 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Nyck Harbor leads a talented group of receivers that Sellers will have to throw to. The defense is loaded and last year they ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense. Up front Dylan Stewart and Bryan Thomas return as the dynamic duo combined for 11 sacks. Safety Jalon Kilgore leads the USC defense, after 48 tackles and 5 interceptions last season.

Before the Aggies go to Austin to take on their arch rival Texas, they have one more nonconference match up against Samford at Kyle Field. With Arch Manning in their sights, the Aggies will get some good reps against a talented mobile quarterback in Quincy Crittendon. The Aggies can work on their contain defense as they impose their will on the team from Homewood, Alabama. Crittendon’s targets at wide receiver include Nicholas Bookman, Cam Bland and Calvin Jones. On defense, the Bulldogs have the ability to put pressure and sack the quarterback. Jackson Bussey, KeShawn Washington, Conroy Cunningham II and Russell Watts all have the speed and muscle to affect the game. Samford went 4-7 last year and played Florida where Crittendon went 22 of 31 for 144 yards showing he can complete passes against SEC schools. The Aggies want to stay healthy and give everyone a chance to play in this game.

TEXAS

Going into last season, Coach Elko was absolutely aware of the importance of beating Texas. The stakes were made even higher with a trip to the SEC Championship on the line. The Aggies fell short, but it has only increased the burning desire to beat the Longhorns in Austin this fall. Even though the t-sips lost 13 starters from last year’s team, including four of the five offensive lineman. And the fact that they will be fielding a quarterback in Arch Manning that has two career starts, expectations are through the roof as they begin the season ranked #1. Ryan Wingo returns at wideout and Quintrevion Wisner at running back, but Sarkisian has had to fill a lot of holes. The key to an Aggie win this year is stopping the run. On defense, the back seven is loaded, but lots of changes on the defensive line. The Aggies were a half yard from the goal line last year to challenge the Horns for the win. If the Aggies can stay healthy, they can beat the Horns on November 28th. There is nothing like Sawin’ the Horns off at DKR stadium! Trust me!
