TEAM MEMBER Gorav Singh | Staff, AFS Intercultural Programs, India In the realm of personal and professional growth, a guiding principle holds true: “Consistency always leads to excellence. Whatever you do in life, always be consistent.” This timeless wisdom reflects the heart of AFS and its unwavering commitment to gradual, impactful change. For years, AFS has tirelessly worked to enhance the lives of underserved individuals, molding them into global citizens. My journey with AFS over the past 5 months has been nothing short of extraordinary. From day one, I found myself on a thrilling roller coaster of experiences and learning. From the first hosting program experience of NSLI-Y Summer program in July to Network Meeting in October, each moment played a vital role in elevating my skills and bolstering my self-assurance. Among the countless moments etched in my memory, standing beside NSLI-Y students as we marveled at the Taj Mahal stands out as one of the most cherished. It was an experience that encapsulated the essence of AFS – bridging cultures and fostering mutual understanding. However, it was the Network Meeting that left an indelible mark on my journey. Interacting with AFS delegates from various partner countries offered a profound insight into the global connectivity of AFS networks. This experience, above all, honed my social and interpersonal skills in ways I could not have foreseen. Yet, as I reflect upon this incredible journey, I must acknowledge the unsung heroes of AFS India: the pillars, the beating heart of AFS - our committed volunteers. Their selfless dedication to community upliftment and their unwavering support whenever we are in need are the cornerstones of AFS's success. Working with AFS fills my heart with a profound sense of fulfillment, knowing that we are collectively giving back to society through a multitude of opportunities. As I continue to learn and grow, I eagerly anticipate a long-term commitment to AFS and the prospect of many more enriching intercultural experiences. In the tapestry of life, AFS has woven a thread of consistency, and I am determined to be part of this enduring journey toward excellence.

ALUMNI Anushka | Asia Kakehashi Project, 2021-2022 Alumna My journey with AFS Intercultural Programs started as one of the twenty recipients from India for the Asia Kakehashi Project to Japan, 2021-22. Upon returning to my home country and completing the Student Learning Journey and the Global Competence Certificate, I began working on multiple social impact projects focused on providing basic education to underprivileged children in underdeveloped areas. As an AFS India volunteer, I also conducted monthly cleanliness drives, awareness drives, and fundraising activities within my city. Project GLoRal,' a self-initiated project, under Project Udgam, resulted in being one of the most socially impactful initiatives in rural education. It aims at middle school and high school children from underdeveloped areas. This project was launched under the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program and the US Department of State sponsorship. My first action plan included rural Maharashtra, India. It was conducted in two forums, the first targeting middle school students and the second targeting high school students. In light of this, I am grateful to have been selected as a Global Educator to represent India at the 28th Session of the Youth Assembly, NYC, with the theme Breakthrough to a Better Future. Being the youngest in the educators' cohort, I met people whose support gave me the boost I needed. Project GloRal was presented at AFS Youth Assembly's Youth at the Front Lines: Action & Impact Hub at Convene, NYC, allowing me to showcase my work on a global platform. Having the chance to exchange ideas with inspiring youth from around the world was truly an impactful experience. The educators' session was hosted by the Institute of International Education, which further motivated me to work harder in the field. It was an honor to be addressed by the President of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations during the same visit. Together, we can work to improve our future. I look forward to making a difference.

REGIONAL MEET Fostering Unity, Knowledge, and Cultural Exchange Hosted by: Delhi Public School Bhopal | 1 - 3 September 2023 We are thrilled to share the success of the AFS India Member Schools Regional Meet - Central Zone, held from 1-3 September 2023 at the esteemed Delhi Public School Bhopal. This enriching event brought together over 85 participants, including School Leaders, Educators, and Students, from 20 schools across Central India, creating a vibrant atmosphere of learning and embracing diversity.
Inspirational Keynote Addresses
Cultural Immersion and Empathy
Renowned speakers graced the occasion with their wisdom and insights. Mr. Jayant Hari Har Lal emphasized the pivotal role of schools in the age of diversity, urging educators to embrace cultural exchange. Mr. Lokendra Thakkar underscored the power of volunteerism and social activism, encouraging attendees to make a positive impact on society. Ms. Aarti Sinha enlightened the audience on the significance of joy and wellness, highlighting the importance of holistic education.
A highlight of the event was the visit to Aayam NGO and the Tribal Museum, where participants experienced the rich cultural heritage of India and engaged in meaningful interactions with local communities. This experience instilled a sense of empathy and social responsibility, reinforcing the importance of giving back to society.
Interactive Workshops and Collaborative Learning
Nurturing Future Leaders
The event featured interactive workshops and collaborative sessions, providing a platform for School Heads and AFS School Coordinators to exchange ideas and best practices. Participants explored innovative teaching methodologies and discussed ways to enhance cultural integration within Central Zone schools. These discussions fostered a spirit of cooperation and innovation among educators.
The event also focused on nurturing leadership skills among students. Interactive sessions at the JLU Campus encouraged creative thinking and problem-solving using the Scamper technique. Students shared their experiences and innovative ideas, showcasing their potential as future leaders and change-makers.

Embracing Cultural Diversity The event commenced with a warm welcome, setting the stage for three days of profound learning and cultural exchange. Participants were immersed in a series of engaging activities, interactive sessions, musical performances, and a captivating cultural program.
The AFS India Regional Meet - Central Zone Member Schools left a lasting impact on all attendees, fostering a sense of unity, cultural appreciation, and global citizenship. Participants departed with cherished memories, newfound knowledge, and a renewed commitment to promoting cultural understanding and intellectual growth within their school communities. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Delhi Public School Bhopal for hosting this inspiring event.
CALENDAR Colors of India – Celebrating the vibrant diversity of India More than 50 AFS Member Schools participated online in AFS Member Schools National Activity, Colors of India - the vibrant celebration of the diverse cuisines and festivals of India, hosted by Jodhamal Public School, Jammu. Cuisine Fest allowed students of Grade IX - X to showcase the cuisine of the Indian state of their choice while students of Grade XI - XII participated in Festival Fiesta by being in the festive attire of the festival of their choice. Almost 100 videos were received from the participating schools which exhibited the creativity, innovation and knowledge of the enthusiastic participants. It was a delight that Dr Sumer Singh, an eminent educator and mentor to grace the result declaration ceremony who congratulated all the participants for their wonderful participation. All participants with their remarkable skills were noticed and praised and outstanding videos were put on display. To mark the success of the event, Jodhamal received words of appreciation from Mrs. Sarita Bhadwar AFS Activities Head and Trainer. The event was a fantastic celebration of India's heritage and culinary traditions. It not only entertained but also educated us about the cultural richness of our country. Thanks to Jodhamal Public School and AFS for providing such an amazing platform to the students. We look forward to more such events. DOMESTIC SelaQui International School, Dehradun To explore culture, ten enthusiastic students of class 9 of Medi – Caps International School, Indore embarked on an incredible journey to SelaQui International School (SIS), Dehradun on 31 August 2023. The program aims to promote cultural understanding, foster global citizenship and provide students with unique opportunities for personal growth and learning. Its primary objectives are:
Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Himalayas, the Medicaptains received a heartwarming welcome at SelaQui International School, Dehradun.
• To expose students to diverse cultures and perspectives. • To enhance language skills. • To promote intercultural communication and understanding. • To develop leadership, adaptability and problem-solving skills. This educational trip broadened knowledge and provided the students with a life-changing experience. They encountered a highly disciplined environment marked by exceptional punctuality among their peers and the challenging lifestyle of SIS students, who live apart from their families without access to electronic gadgets. The students gained invaluable life lessons, and it presented an exceptional opportunity for personal growth and establishing connections with their fellow students. Day 1 (1 September 2023)

Medicaptains visited the school Campus of SIS, escorted by Head girl Tanisha, followed by the Purukul Project in which women are preparing zero-washed handmade quilts, bags, and diaries which are sold nationwide. After having a delicious lunch in Orchard cafe, we moved to Rabber's cave, which was an amazing & adventurous experience for all of us.
A visit to Mussoorie, an ecstatic experience for all of us.

Day 4 (4 September 2023) A visit to Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradun, was a wonderful experience. Day 5 (5 September 2023) Teacher's Day celebration at SIS, Dehradun. Medicaptains participated in the program and presented a group song dedicated to teachers.
HOSTING YES Program | Mid Term Orientation The YES Abroad host students embarked on an enriching journey to Udaipur, Rajasthan, often referred to as "The Venice of the East," during their Mid-Term Orientation from 12-15 September 2023. Guided by AFS staff members Ms. Diya Badgel and Mr. Nikhil Bhatnagar, as well as AFS Facilitators Ms. Vibhooti Maldhari and YES Alumni Mr. Abdul Salam, this orientation unfolded at The Rockwoods School, an AFS Member School in Udaipur. The students were warmly welcomed with traditional Indian garlands and Teeka, immersing them in the vibrant local culture. During the orientation, the students had exposure to Indian heritage and culture. They got to visit the historical and architectural masterpiece of Udaipur, “The City Palace” which holds several legends of the Kings and their kingdoms. At the City Palace, they got to witness a textile exhibition and also learned how the miniature paintings are used for storytelling. They also explored the Vintage Car Gallery, the Monsoon Palace, Jagmandir and sought blessings at the Karni Mata Temple. Engaging in delightful shopping, they acquired mementos, creating an unforgettable and amazing experience that left lasting memories.
I personally loved the Monsoon Palace and seeing the sunset from there, but overall, the entire city was really peaceful and beautiful. I loved the architecture and nature. Also, the school students were super nice and easy to talk to. Alisa Yarling, Hosted in New Delhi

SPONSORED YES Program 2024-25 Discovery Day - A Resounding Success! We are excited to tell you about the YES Program Major Event, Discovery Day, which brought together 18 chapters from throughout India and welcomed over 250 eager students. The focus of the Discovery Day was on the participants' involvement in a range of tasks designed to assess their knowledge and aptitude. From group activities to solo shows, their actions demonstrated their enthusiasm, tenacity and dedication to the YES Program. Each chapter's Discovery Day commenced with a cordial welcome and registration procedure, during which attendees received the schedule and Agenda of the day. Students heard from Program alumni through lively panel discussions, which gave them insightful knowledge on studying in the US as YES scholars. While the Q&A sessions gave students a forum to voice their questions and concerns, Interactive workshops helped them with application-related tasks like essay writing and Panel interviews.

SENDING Uttara Vorkady | Year Program 2023-2024 Uttara Vorkady, a student at the Creative School, Bangalore shares her wonderful journey in France as a Year Program 2023-2024 participant. This entire experience truly felt surreal, and I'm grateful for my decision to participate in this program. It has allowed me to be my most authentic self, make wonderful friends, and immerse myself in the beauty of France. The people here are exceptionally kind and supportive, especially in helping me learn at my own pace. My host family has been the highlight of my journey, introducing me to the rich French culture while warmly accepting and embracing mine. They made me feel welcomed by creating a special game and giving me a stuffed toy to combat loneliness. Adapting to a new culture is undeniably challenging. I initially struggled with the lengthy school days, the language barrier and the cuisine but over time, things have become easier. This experience has significantly boosted my self-confidence and self-love. If you are to opt to study abroad for a year it would come with its fair share of problems but also leave you with a mountain of good memories and friends for a lifetime. AFS has also provided a coordinator to whom you can turn to for any concern, which is incredibly helpful in making you feel at ease in your new environment. Global citizenship, to me, means understanding diverse communities and recognizing our shared similarities. I have also gained insights into France's advanced economic situation, broadening my global perspective. I believe this journey has opened new opportunities, and I've experienced more than I ever have.

SENDING AFS Short Term Program Completion– Denmark, September 2023 6 high school students from India participated in a 4-week study abroad program to Denmark from 3 - 30 September 2023. The program of AFS Denmark, in collaboration with Ranum Efterskole College, provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage in a variety of activities that helped in the development of their interests, offering high-quality courses. The program had a profound impact on their personal growth, skills enhancement, business acumen and cross-cultural understanding. The following impact stories showcase the transformative experiences and lifelong benefits gained from participating in this exchange program.
