THE MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS NO ONE SAW COMING IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY By: Afram News Staff Writer
For generations, the Black community has been celebrated for its strength, resilience, and ability to overcome systemic adversity. But beneath that resilience lies a crisis that has remained hidden for too long: an urgent and growing mental health epidemic that is affecting Black Americans at every level— from children and teens to adults and elders.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, Black adults in the United States are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems such as major depressive disorder or generalized anxiety disorder compared to the general population.
