Helf, nawl! I don’t like hearing you scratching or popping yo’self upside the head every three minutes. Get some of that pink moisturizer lotion and keep it in yo purse. Better yet, get some of that Blue Magic grease and oil yo’self down. 8. Don’t ask me if I like yo new sandals if yo feet look like bear claws. Don’t do that. Cut them thangs down and grease yo damn feet. Go to the Chinese Stoe and buy yo ass one of them mash-potato graters and scrape all of that ish off the back of yo feet. How yo toes gonna be looking all cute and yo heels and ankles are ashy as hell? Look like you been kicking flour. How you gonna grease/lotion half yo
foot. Toes justa be shining. I betcho ankles be jealous and mad as hell.. 7. Don’t be placing pictures on Facebook of yo ugly wittle kids if their wittle faces are still developing. Ugly kids will mess up a damn family picture. Everybody be looking at the camera and his wittle ass be staring off into space humming and ish. That ain’t good. 6. Don’t expect me to hold my peace if yo grandma or momma comes to church with her damn wig on backwards. Didn’t she see that damn tag in the back? I’m telling you right now, l’M GON BE LAUGHING! Don’t ask me if she’s looking good. I’ll probably say some ish like this: “Well, praise the lawd, her ass would be looking good if she had her damn wig on straight”. All y’all are going to hell. 5. If you bring yo baby to my house and there’s five pounds of dooky in her diaper, don’t be asking me if I
smell something. Hell, yeah I smell something! It’s yo funky-ass baby. Take that critter outside and hose her little cruddy ass down. You know better. 4. There are a lot of y’all who like taking pictures of yo’self in y’alls bathroom mirrors and commence to posting them on Facebook. Don’t be expecting me to hit the “like” button when I see all that ish on yo floe and on top of you cabinets. Then you got the nerves to be propping yo foot on top of the counter and raising yo arms over yo head thinking you looking sexy and ish. You got so much damn hair under yo arms it looks like you got a midget in a headlock… 3. You ladies know when it’s “THAT TIME OF THE MONTH”. Errrrrbody else don’t need to know that. If you’re sitting in somebody’s car and the air-conditioning vent is blowing towards yo lap, please make sho that thang is clean!
Why Many of Our Children Resist Education
headed at the feet of every educator/ administrator. Put simply, there is something amiss in regards to the education that the vast majority of African-American youth are passively receiving in this nation’s K-16 educational institutions. A cursory glance around any African-American neighborhood displays the lack of utility today’s education has for our youth. African-American youth leave these educational institutions unmistakably directionless, meaning politically, culturally, economically, and socially illiterate. In fact, each of these illiteracies not only reinforces each other, but also presents a façade that many mistakenly consider African-American culture. If one did not know any better, they would believe that a lifestyle that champions political dormancy,
cultural dysfunction, economic foolishness, and social inappropriateness are trademarks of Blackness. For those possessing any concern regarding the current trajectory of AfricanAmerican youth it is natural to inquire not only what went wrong, but also how can these matters be solved? Although you may think that my status as a Professor of AfricanAmerican History creates a natural bias in my construction of a path to solve our problems, however, such concerns fail to lessen my belief that the only path to Black liberation is by following the dictates of notable thinkers such as Malcolm X who admonished our people that, “Only a fool would allow his oppressor to educate his children.” Even Huey Percy Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense,
related in that organization’s tenpoint platform and program that the Panther’s wanted “…education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history and our role in the present-day society.” Newton went further in relating the Black Panther Party’s belief in the power of education. The Panther leader related, “we believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowledge of self. If a man does not have knowledge of himself and his position in society and the world, then he has little chance to relate to anything else.” It is this absence of a ‘knowledge of self’ that facilitates many AfricanAmerican youths execution of antics that causes the world to look upon

Obviously, today’s African-American educational administrators have badly missed the mark by failing to craft an educational curriculum that is solely focused upon uplifting the African-American community. They have slyly escaped that responsibility and became cogs in a larger white educational system that has at its core maintaining the political and socioeconomic subjugation of African-Americans.

Why Aren’t Minorities Given Credit for Simply Being the Best? Riecke Bauman Attorney
He did everything that he was supposed to, and still does. He: • Graduated from Rice (I didn’t even apply.); • Raised a strong family, kids, and grandkids; • Graduated from law school, with excellent grades; • Passed the bar exam and distinguished himself in the courtroom; • Is sought by colleagues for legal and personal advice; • Is very active in his church, charities, and pro bono legal work; • Is highly regarded by all around him, at work and play; • Was recently rewarded for his distinguished service by being appointed to a judicial bench. He earned all of the accolades, over and over. Despite a lifetime of excellence, his accomplishments were not the first thing mentioned. Why, when he was sworn in, was his being African-American the first thing mentioned? Was he appointed because of his qualifications, or his race? When will minorities be given credit simply for being the best (at things other than sports and music)? I look forward to the day when excellence is so common, in all neighborhoods, that no one even takes note of the ethnicities of those who rise to the top. Don’t you?

While a member of the Texas legislature, I introduced legislation that mandated providing meals to children from low income families. It is extremely important that during the summer months, school children from low-income households are provided with healthy and nutritious meals. During the school year approximately 70 percent of Dallas County students receive free or reduced meals. During the months of June, July and August, many of these children do not know where they will receive their next meal and are at great risk of going hungry or consuming unhealthy food items. This should not be the case, because these same children are eligible to participate in the summer meals program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Various non-profits and faith-based organizations have established feeding sites throughout North Texas. The summer feeding sites are open from June 8th through August 21st, three days before the start of school year. According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, only ten percent of the approximately 173,000 eligible children in North Texas participate in the summer feeding program, and throughout the state of Texas, only 12-percent of the nearly three million students who receive free or reduced meals are enrolled in summer feeding programs. CitySquare, the Dallas based nonprofit organization, operates approximately 110 sites throughout Dallas County and feeds approximately 15,000 children on a daily basis. Please Do Not Forget Our History! Forgetting What Happened to Us Can Destroy Us! - Roy Douglas Malonson
“Liberty and Justice For All...” Including US! Let me first start this editorial off by stating that I do not care what people do in their private lives. Neither am I concerned with the lifestyle and partners that folks chose to spend their life with. Each person is entitled to their own opinion and are given freewill to make their own decisions. With that being stated, there has been a lot of talk, debate and various opinions have been offered and expressed by many peopled around the nation regarding; the recent ruling from the United States Supreme Court. As it is, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot ban same-sex marriage. As a result of this ruling, all states are now legally required to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. We MUST Understand, that since the inception and origin of the formation of these United States, there have been many groups, classifications and sects of people that have fought within their own right for freedom. Once upon a time, women were at the fore-front of the line in fighting for equal rights within the country. Different religious groups have also petitioned courts for freedom in respect to their varying beliefs. Individuals with handicaps and disabilities are also amongst those who have went down in the history for fighting for equal rights like those without them. Now, in more recent years the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community has been in the media and in courts consistently; demanding rights for their choices of freedom to be heard and upheld. It has been a long journey and battle these last couple of decades for them in pursuing their goals. But with the new ruling in effect many members from that community are now satisfied that the original
definition of marriage has been redefined to include them. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, “State legislatures, voters and more recently the courts have made sweeping changes over the past two decades in laws defining whether marriage is limited to relationships between a man and a woman or is extended to samesex couples. Before the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Oct. 6, 2014, declining to hear cases on same-sex marriage, 31 states had either constitutional or statutory provisions that explicitly defined marriage as between a man and a woman and just 19 states and the District of Columbia allowed same-sex marriage. At least 37 states and the District of Columbia now recognizes same-sex marriage; before the new U.S. ruling.” So I would conclude that this has been a long journey for the (LGBT) community. But they have been persistent in fighting for what they want, as have many other groups and classes of people that simply wanted “liberty and justice” for themselves. Be that as it may, with all of the groups, classifications and sects of people as previously fore-mentioned that have fought for freedom; there remains one race of people that has continually fought to obtain basic human rights in this country. And anyone that knows me, is aware of the ethnicity that I am referring to! African-Americans have not only been in this country but are responsible for building it. Yet, we are the one race that is often overlooked and continuously disrespected and disregarded in nearly every aspect of this nation’s existence. This is why I have chosen to title this editorial, “Liberty and Justice for all...” Including US!
We MUST Understand By Roy Douglas Malonson, Chairman
I could write on and on about the many instances that AfricanAmericans have been overlooked and treated in ways contrary to other nationalities and cultures. However, due to space allotment I will only list a few here. The most disrespect and resistance that has been bestowed upon a president ever in the history of the United States has been within the last two administrations. This is not a matter of opinion it is a fact! This factor is for no other reason that the color of his skin and descent of his culture. Simply put, because he is an African-American. Throughout the history of the United States, Whites have been are more likely to secure employment within the local governments in comparison to the rated of African-Americans, regardless of degree or experience status. This is also not a matter of opinion but is a fact! Also, it remains a fact that Whites are paid at a higher wage, than African-Americans operating in the same field, doing the same job. Addressing the readers of African-American News&Issues, this is also not an opinion but a fact. There are countless other examples and illustrations that I could use to further drive my point. But, anyone that is honest with themselves regardless of their race should be able to tell that there is a major racial disparity that exists in connection with African-Americans versus the majority race. So at the end of the day, all I am trying to convey is that everyone else wants, “liberty and justice” so why should we be exempt? TX-3

given. To date, 31 distinguished African-American leaders of the community have been chosen to receive the “Trailblazer” award. The esteemed honor is one that acknowledges, “a person or organization that has demonstrated leadership and dedication in helping improve the plight of the AfricanAmerican community.” This year, Percy Creuzot III (King), owner of the successful family-owned chain restaurant that has a rich history which dates back to 1969 was honored as a “Trailblazer”. Percy “King” Creuzot III, is the son of
Percy “Frenchy” Creuzot. “Frenchy” is the pioneer of the taste that originated in Third Ward on Scott Street, but has criss-crossed the city offering its infamous New Orleans-style chicken and southern cuisine. Since his passing, Percy “King” Creuzot III has not slowed down an ounce in carrying on the torch of providing delightful flavor that has bedazzled the African-American community in Houston and the surrounding areas.

HOUSTON - Carter G. Woodson, once stated that, “The educational system of a country is worthless unless it revolutionizes the social order. Men of scholarship, and prophetic insight, must show us the right way and lead us into light which is shining brighter and brighter.” Undoubtably, the Black Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls Association (BPCCA), is comprised about with like-minded individuals who are intuitive to this factor and dedicated to assisting with the advancement of the African-American leaders of tomorrow. Accordingly, the BPCCA has a mission which simply states, “Supporting Education”. The organization has remained true to that cause; while being purposefully “driven on creating awareness and recognition for Black men and women who have made significant contributions in the AfricanAmerican community”. The Black Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls Association hosts a numerous array of activities throughout the course of the year to raise funds for the purpose of awarding scholarships. Aspiring high school graduates with an expectancy of attending an accredited TX- 4

four-year college or university are awarded the scholarships. The association has been successful in distributing 142 scholarships which amount to over $100,000, thus far. Recently, the BPCCA held its 16th Annual Honors Celebration at Brady’s Landing, located at 8505 Cypress Street, 77012. Prominent personalities throughout the state of Texas gathered to attend. Once the welcome and invocation were delivered, attendees were served dinner. Afterwards, ten college scholarships were distributed to high school graduates from
around Houston and the surrounding areas. AUSTIN – Recently the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) hosted sexual assault, domestic violence, and immigration advocates to discuss the issueDate of detained women and children in Texas. Family detention centers have been the topic of conversation amongst human rights, legal, and immigration advocates. A detention center in Texas captured national attention as allegations of sexual abuse surfaced. “Allegations of sexual abuse while in confinement are particularly alarming, but we’re also very concerned that the confinement setting itself is exacerbating the effects of trauma and isolating victims from the health care they need to recover. Many of these women and children are in detention precisely because of the extreme violence they’ve experienced, and confining them is making it worse.” said
Chris Kaiser, Staff Attorney at TAASA. As the narrative continues, questions on the role of local rape crisis center agencies emerge. What does this mean for sexual assault & domestic violence advocates, prevention specialists, and community members? “Where’s the outrage?” said Linda A. Brandmiller, Immigration Attorney and CEO of Asociacion de Servicios Para el Inmigrante based in San Antonio, TX, “Many of the women and children detained have experienced immense trauma and are further traumatized by our system’s response to their plight.” TAASA’s Diversity Task Force invited Linda to provide a workshop to address sexual violence, immigration, and family detention facilities. Linda represents several women and children detained in a Texas facility.

WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE, LOOK AHEAD
I
n a time of education of scrutiny and backlash, a program has risen from the ashes of academic despair for a number of students. High School Ahead Academy (HSAA) is an innovative program that has worked diligently to provide hope and worked to restore academic confidence in a number of students in the Houston area. HSAA is a program that no longer speaks about the problems that surround education, but works in the midst of the turmoil to alleviate the present alarming educational issues. This unique and alternative form of traditional education, is open to students within the 7th to 8th grade levels, and serves to not only restore credits lost by students, but also to close the educational achievement gap for students and
push students to become academically successful. It school was created to as an alternative route for students who had either been retained within the public school sector or had dropped out of the public school system. As the Houston dropout rate rose, Houston Independent School District devised a plan to not only prevent graduation, but to allow students who had fallen behind, a means to “catch up”. High School Ahead Academy is comprised of nearly 66% African-American students, 32% Hispanic students, 2% Caucasian/other students. The school is located. Although, sports and extracurricular activities are not in existence due to the focus on academics, the school has many other academically stimulating
programs that adhere to the interested and needs of the student population. Students are exposed to many programs that include: college trips, an on campus career day (professional and vocational), spelling bees, culturally stimulating field trips, a middle school prom, as well as award ceremonies. All students are seen as an asset to the overall academic environment and the staff works collectively to ensure that students feel as if they are a part of the school, and not just a number. Throughout the time that the school has been in existence, there have been a multitude of success stories that have served as testimonies of triumphant and excellence for alumni students of HSAA. There have been students have worked to get back on track upon leaving

High School Ahead Academy and went on to venture to college or become the valedictorian of their graduating class. By producing these type of students, High School Ahead Academy has shaped an academically formula of success and is truly doing something right. With the mantra We’re Getting Prepared…We’re Moving Ahead, High School Ahead Academy has assembled a group of knowledgeable and experience educators and administrators who are dedicated to their students and have become educational advocates for working to push them to be better than they were yesterday. The purpose of education is to enlighten students and to excite as well as empower them academically. The school works to allow them to realize that they have the capacity and ability to be anything that they want to be, only if they had the courage to try. The late and honorable Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated that “Education plus character… that is the true goal of education.” Not only is this school teaching students how to succeed in the classroom, they are also embedding skills that will encourage them to be successful throughout their life. Judges received 1,024 entries for the 2015 national awards. The Golden Achievement Award measures clear evidence of research, analysis/planning, communication/implementation and evaluation of public relations campaigns. My dearly beloved Brethren and Fellow Citizens. Having travelled over a considerable portion of these United States, and having, in the course of my travels, taken the most accurate observations of things as they exist -- the result of my observations has warranted the full and unshaken conviction, that we, (coloured people of these United States,) are the most degraded, wretched, and abject set of beings that ever lived since the world began; and I pray God that none like us ever may live again until time shall be no more. They tell us of the Israelites in Egypt, the Helots in Sparta, and of the Roman Slaves, which last were made up from almost every nation under heaven, whose sufferings under those ancient and heathen nations, were, in comparison with ours, under this enlightened and Christian nation, no more than a cypher -- or, in other words, those heathen nations of antiquity, had but little more among them than the name and form of slavery; while wretchedness and endless miseries were reserved, apparently in a phial, to be poured out upon, our fathers ourselves and our children, by Christian Americans! I call upon the professing Christians, I call upon the philanthropist, I call upon the very tyrant himself, to show me a page of history, either sacred or profane, on which a verse can be found, which maintains, that the Egyptians heaped the insupportable insult upon the children of Israel, by telling them that they were not of the human family. Can the whites deny this charge? Have they not, after having reduced us to the deplorable condition of slaves under their feet, held us up as descending originally from the tribes
of Monkeys or Orang-Outangs? O! my God! I appeal to every man of feeling-is not this insupportable? Is it not heaping the most gross insult upon our miseries, because they have got us under their feet and we cannot help ourselves? Oh! pity us we pray thee, Lord Jesus, Master. -- Has Mr. Jefferson declared to the world, that we are inferior to the whites, both in the endowments of our bodies and our minds? It is indeed surprising, that a man of such great learning, combined with such excellent natural parts, should speak so of a set of men in chains. I do not know what to compare it to, unless, like putting one wild deer in an iron cage, where it will be secured, and hold another by the side of the same, then let it go, and expect the one in the cage to run as fast as the one at liberty. So far, my brethren, were the Egyptians from heaping these insults upon their slaves, that Pharaoh’s daughter took Moses, a son of Israel for her own, as will appear by the following. Here I pause for a moment, to give the world time to consider what was my surprise, to hear such preaching from a minister of my Master, whose very gospel is that of peace and not of blood and whips, as this pretended preacher tried to make us believe. What the American preachers can think of us, I aver this day before my God, I have never been able to define. They have newspapers and monthly periodicals, which they receive in continual succession, but on the pages of which, you will scarcely ever find a paragraph respecting slavery, which is ten thousand times more injurious to this country than all the other evils put together; and which will be the final overthrow of its government, unless something is very speedily done; for their cup is nearly full.-Perhaps they will laugh at or make light of this; but I tell you Americans! that unless you speedily alter your course, you and your Country are gone! ! ! ! !

HOUSTON - Recently, the Greater New Mercy Missionary Baptist Church held its Pastor and Wife Pre-Appreciation services for Pastor Raymond and Lady Damira Collins. The theme of the evening was, “With God All Things are Possible”, St. Matthew 19:26 (But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible). Friends, family, church members and a host of others all congregated to attend and pay homage to the humble hearted and delightful duo. Deacon Royce Collins served as the Master of Ceremony. Anointed and uplifting songs of jubilee were rendered to the Everlasting Father, which offered an atmosphere of praise that all in attendance joined in on. Dea. James Sapp spoke on Pastor and Lady Collins and addressed his delivery as, “A Powerful Couple”. He spoke on the faithfulness and dedication that has been exemplified through the lifestyle of the physical leaders of the house. Bro. Damarion Collins embraced the sanctuary with a soul-stirring dance presentation. Finally, Pastor Montari Morrison, Sr., of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Victoria, TX took the podium to deliver the unadulterated word of truth. Referencing St. Mark 5:1-20

as a text, Pastor Morrison spoke on a subject which stated, “I’m Dealing with a Devil”. After he had exposited and dissected the word of God into the hearts and minds of all that were assembled; he harmoniously concluded his message by preaching the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord and
