A RACIAL PANDEMIC A pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people.” It is generally referring to a “medical disease,” like cholera, the bubonic plague, smallpox, and influenza from the past, or our current COVID-19/ coronavirus crisis, but there is a certain disease that is spreading like a virus across the country -- in fact the world -- and there is no medical vaccine or cure for it. The disease is RACISM, and it is infecting and affecting our households, our lives and our souls. A RACIAL PANDEMIC
has swept the globe, and primarily in America, Blacks are being hunted and targeted by police, white Supremacists and even their own neighbors and “Everyday Joes” who are no longer cloaked in disguise, but are boldly letting the world know that Black people are prey for no other reason than the color of their skin. We could say that police brutality is at an all-time high, but that is honestly not true. Police brutality against Blacks has ALWAYS been high, we just could not prove it then as much as we can now, thanks to technology with cellphone videos and social media. Now, the brutality is on
display for the world to see, even though many politicians and judges still turn a blind eye to it, refusing to hold those accountable in the deaths of Blacks. We scold those who protest and burn down buildings, not realizing that many are simply “sick and tired of being sick and tired” after seeing one racist officer after another get a slap on the wrist after intentionally killing Blacks with no consequences. The officers who beat Rodney King got away with it, George Zimmerman walked free after stalking and killing Trayvon Martin, and the list goes on and on. Dr. Sandra L. Shullman,
PhD, president of the American Psychological Association, wrote about the mental health consequences related to the recent high-profile violent events targeting African Americans. “George Floyd, dead after a police officer knelt on his neck. Ahmaud Arbery, fatally shot while on a jog. Breonna Taylor, shot to death by police raiding her home. Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Trayvon Martin — the list is far too long and ever growing,” Shullman said. “If you’re black in America — and especially if you are a black male – it’s not safe to go birding in

WANTON ENDANGERMENT??? “So a Black woman’s life ain’t worth nothing?” asked African-American News&Issues publisher Roy Douglas Malonson. His question is the same as many others after Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced this week that two officers were justified in the Breonna Taylor shooting, and only one -- former Louisville police officer Brett Hankison --would be charged with “first degree wanton endangerment,” but not for Taylor’s death. And many of us are left to wonder... what is wanton endangerment? Apersonisguiltyof wanton endangerment in the
first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person. Hankison is accused of allegedly firing blindly through a door and window in Taylor’s building, which officials say, could have possibly harmed others. We differ but BE BLESSED! This brief screed (speech) is an admonition to keep politics and religion away from the dinner table and the bedroom. Families and friends are being fractured based on their preference for a political party or candidate. Families will be under mounting stress in the the choice of finding a new supreme court justice during this election season. One of my dear first cousins was enamored by Bernie Sanders and his fight for the Democratic nomination for president in the 2012 primary. I was favorable toward Bernie, but I knew that he was too far ahead of his time in the quest to become President of the United States. We will be fractured by the replacement for Ginsburg because the yardstick will measure reproductive self-determination, access to health care and protection of preexisting conditions, immigration and the culture wars. A wedge
will be driven between wives and husbands, first cousins, lovers and companions because of a belief of what is at stake in the replacement. Although we have chosen to disagree without becoming disagreeable, we have united around some key points. We do understand that children of color represent 75% of the fatalities from COVID – 19. This reason alone is enough that we have a “kumbaya” moment. Although Donald Trump lacked a moral compass and was unfit for the job, I had no intention of alienating my cousin. Blood and friendship are thicker than politics, almost without exception. I put a governor and muzzle on my undisciplined mouth because of my desire of not opening an unbridgeable divide between us. Our grandparents are pleased. A couple of things that I have learned from this sparring contest. • One person’s idiot is another person’s genius. • Even though we do not agree or even respect another’s choices, we can still greet them and say, “Have a Blessed day.”

GOP: Ungodly ‘Group-Think’ Law should be a force for universal good, not White Privilege. Most White males desire laws that maximize the pleasure principle: power, money and sex (PMS) through the court system. As it has been stated, this is not the reason why White males can no longer afford “Just Laws,” but must control lawmakers, judges, and the court systems. Christian Right Evangelicals, GOP, Trump Loyalists and ungodly rebel supporters should heed this Word of God: “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in thve abundance of the things which he possesseth.” America, know this, the COVID19-Coronavirus plague that the world is experiencing, and most assuredly America, is spiritually similar to the plagues that God allowed Egypt to experience. Americans, we must present ourselves as a living sacrifice to God, therefore: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable
service.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a Supreme Court Justice for all times/ seasons, and may her words of wisdom and deeds live forever. Thus, it is a spiritual-moraltravesty to the spiritual meaning of JUSTICE that this statement cannot be uttered concerning the spiritual-moral-character of all SUPREME COURT- JUSTICES. It is spiritual-crying-prayingtime in American society, because of America’s nonspiritual conscience voted for the worst President in the history of the Republic, because now the US is upside-down. Therefore, know this, even Jesus wept because he had to bring Lazarus back from paradise with the Heavenly Father into this sin sick world. Sadly, the GOP is victimized by ungodly White-Privilege-GroupThink, and therefore, immoral loyalty to White Privilege transcends the democratic principles of the U. S. Constitution as well as the two great commandments. GOP obedience to the sin of White Privilege is greater than obedience to the Will of God. God calls us to be real and spiritually sincere. And, real spiritual love is without dissimulation, and goes beyond pretense, and superficial politeness. Spiritual love requires mindset concentration, will, and sacrificial efforts. Therefore, Christian Right Evangelicals “let this mind that was in
Jesus be also in you”! Justice is a spiritualmoral-concept, not just a hollow word. Sadly, Republicans have overlypoliticized The Supreme Court as a partisan political body oriented toward selfish political ambitions, rather than a spiritual body fostering justice for all Americans. In Amos’ spiritual mourning for Israel he said it best: “Let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.” America, this is why trust must be spiritualized justice for all, not just a mere false conceptualization for White Privilege racism. Republicans are no longer the political voting majority; therefore can no longer disguise Racism-ConservatismWhite-Privilege as Christian-MoralFamily-Values-Party. “It is what it is.” GOP ungodliness and political expediency have become the order of the day. God’s Law is The Law, and God is always in control. “The Two Great Commandments”: God is a Just Judge. Why then are we fighting over the interpretation/ implementation of manmade imperfect laws? America under the ungodly political leadership of the GOP is not who we say we are constitutionally, but God has the last word. Selah

the police. “The American Psychological Association urges those who are experiencing trauma in the aftermath of these tragedies to practice self-care. Connect with family, friends and other community support people, talk about your feelings and limit your exposure and that of your children to news media and viral videos. Seek professional help if you need it,” Shullman advises. While turning off news media and not watching viral videos may be

a way to protect our psyche, who or what is protecting our civil liberties and LIVES? The answer is to stay vigilant and stay holding our elected leaders accountable. We need to continue protesting and demanding justice. We need to educate our children, build up our communities, BUY BLACK to create and keep wealth within our neighborhoods, we need to buy homes and invest in real estate and Black businessowners need to hire more Black people. We all need to continue
to wage war against drugs and drug dealers on our streets, eat better, and take better care of our overall physical health. Blacks need to stop repeating quotes by famous poets like Maya Angelou and practice what we preach, and REALLY live by the mantra “it takes a village to raise a child” and get more involved with the children and teens in our neighborhoods. The more we get to know one another, the less we are to harm one another. So, how do we fight a
RACIAL PANDEMIC? We know there is not a vaccine for that, the only way is to strengthen ourselves. The more we BUILD and OWN our COMMUNITIES, and the more we BUILD our HEALTH and WEALTH, the less chance the ENEMY has of coming in. More pride and reliance in your OWN PEOPLE and less reliance on the WHITE MAN is the only way UP and OUT.

TAKE YOUR KIDS ASAP TO MANDELA EXHIBIT AT HHM
HOUSTON – During times like these, it is especially important to educate your children on the issues of race and the fight for freedom and civil rights, and a stunning and stirring exhibit is currently on display in Houston’s Museum District to help do just that. The Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) is proud to be selected as the location to host the U.S. premiere of Mandela: Struggle for Freedom, which runs through January 3, 2021. At HMH’s Lester and Sue Smith Campus located at 5401 Caroline St., visitors can experience the tiny cell where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison, take a stand in front of a giant 22foot long by 9-foot tall armored vehicle, make a virtual protest poster on a digital light table, or enter a secret apartment for freedom fighters forced underground. Among its many dramatic visual features, the exhibition replicates Mandela’s eight-foot by seven-
foot prison cell. When entered, the cell becomes a digital theatre whose walls tell a story of repression and resilience. Other exhibition highlights include a 16-foot high “wall of laws” based solely on skin color, and original artifacts including police riot gear, tools of hard labor, letters written by Mandela, segregated swimming and toilet signs, and more. “We’ve waited nearly two years to host this extraordinary exhibition,” said Dr. Kelly J. Zúñiga, CEO of Holocaust Museum Houston. “The fight for social justice and human rights is not over, as witnessed from recent unrest in the U.S. and around the world. While many young people have never heard of apartheid, the movement behind Mandela spread across nations. This exhibition shares an important piece of global human rights history, so its lessons can reverberate today with a new generation.” Mandela was one of the most famous
human rights defenders of the 20th century and the face of a movement against racial injustice that rocked the world. He was released from prison on February 11, 1990 and continued the fight to abolish apartheid. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 jointly with South African President nt F.W. de Klerk, Mandela was elected South outh Africa’s president

RIP “THE NOTORIOUS R.B.G.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death. She was nominated by President Bill Clinton and was generally viewed as a moderate judge who was a consensus builder. She eventually became part of the liberal wing of the Court as the Court shifted to the right over time. Ginsburg was the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, after Sandra Day O’Connor and was the first Jewish woman to serve on the court. During her tenure, Ginsburg wrote notable majority opinions, including United States vs. Virginia (1996), Olmstead vs. L.C. (1999), and Friends of the Earth, Inc. vs. Laidlaw Environmental Services, Inc. (2000). Ginsburg (Joan Ruth Bader) was born and raised
in Brooklyn, New York. Her older sister died when she was a baby, and her mother died shortly before Ginsburg graduated from high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Cornell University and married Martin D. Ginsburg, becoming a mother before starting law school at Harvard, where she was one of the few women in her class. Ginsburg transferred to Columbia Law School, where she graduated joint first in her class. After law school, Ginsburg entered academia. She was a professor at Rutgers Law School and Columbia Law School, teaching civil procedure as one of the few women in her field. Ginsburg spent much of her legal career as an advocate for gender equality and women’s rights, winning many arguments before the Supreme Court. She advocated as a
volunteer attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union and was a member of its board of directors and one of its general counsel in the 1970s. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, R.B.G cont’d page 10

and Det. Myles Cosgrove -- were not charged. Cameron told reporters that the officers were “justified in their use of force” because Taylor’s boyfriend fired at officers first. The Taylor family attorney called the decision “outrageous and offensive.” “The decision before my office is not to decide if the loss of Breonna Taylor’s life was a tragedy, the answer to that question is unequivocally yes,” Cameron said. Cameron said this is “a gut-wrenching emotional case” where “the pain is understandable.” He
September 27, 2020 stressed the need for the public to remain peaceful - respecting protests, but not violence. “Our job is to present the facts to the grand jury, and the grand jury then applies the facts ... If we simply act on outrage, there is no justice. Mob justice is not justice. Justice sought by violence is not justice. It just becomes revenge,” he said. The NAACP said in a statement that the justice system “failed” Taylor and the charges against one officer do “not go far enough.” On March 13, Taylor was at her apartment with her boyfriend when officers broke down her door while
executing a latenight “no-knock” warrant in a narcotics investigation. The 26-year-old EMT and aspiring nurse was shot five times and died. No drugs were found at Taylor’s home, as police mistakenly suspected. Shortly after Cameron’s announcement, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Louisville Interim Police Chief Robert Schroeder announced a 72-hour countywide curfew starting 9 p.m., government buildings were to be closed, and the Kentucky National Guard was activated in anticipation of the protests. Cameron, the first Black person to hold the post and a Republican

rising star, was made a special prosecutor in the case in May, and the FBI opened an
investigation as well. Demonstrators are now calling for him to step down from his position. On Sept. 15, the city of Louisville announced a historic $12 million settlement of the family’s wrongful death lawsuit. The city also agreed to enact police reforms which include using social workers to provide
support on certain police runs and requiring commanders to review and approve search warrants before seeking judicial approval. Protesters say neither the money
nor the charge against Hankison is enough. Will justice for Blacks ever be served?

FLOYD FLAKE STREET The historical Acreage Home community is boasting with pride as one of its “sons” is being honored in New York City. There will be a ceremony held Oct. 3, renaming a street after former Congressman Floyd H. Flake. Flake served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1987 to 1997. Born in Los Angeles, California,Flakegrewupin Houston, Texas (Garden City Park) as one of 15 children of Robert
Flake, Sr. and Rosie Lee Johnson-Flake. During his childhood, he was influenced by his parents’ Christian moral beliefs. After high school, he obtained his BA degree from Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio, becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college. He served as a social worker and then worked for Xerox as a marketing analyst. Flake next worked as Director of Student Affairs at Lincoln
University, PA, and subsequently dean of students and director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. AfroAmerican Center at Boston University. In 1976, he was asked to head the Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church (now The Greater Allen Cathedral of New York). Under Flake’s leadership, the church grew from having about 1,400 members to over 23,000 parishioners. Flake is the senior pastor of the Greater Allen A. M. E.
Cathedral of New York in Jamaica, Queens County, New York City. According to the published marketing message, “The church and its subsidiary corporations operate with an annual budget of over $34 million. Ginsburg’s dissenting opinion was credited with inspiring the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2009, making it easier for employees to win pay discrimination claims. Ginsburg received attention in American popular culture for her passionate dissents in numerous cases, widely seen as reflecting paradigmatically liberal views of the law. She was playfully and notably dubbed “The Notorious R.B.G.” by a law student, a reference to the late Brooklynborn rapper The Notorious B.I.G., and she later embraced the moniker. Ginsburg
