I N N OVAT I O N F O R A M O R E R E S I L I E N T A M E R I C A The National full-scale testing Infrastructure for Community Hardening in Extreme wind, surge, and wave events (NICHE) is a first-of-its-kind, versatile, full-scale, shareduse, national facility directing scientific research to provide solutions to foster resilient communities that are Safer, Stronger, and More Prosperous. Currently, FIU’s Wall of Wind (WOW) is the nation’s only university-based facility capable of simulating a Category 5 hurricane and testing structures at full scale. NICHE is being designed and modeled by some of the nation’s leading wind, wave, and surge scientists and engineers.
