Held at the lush venue of The Garden in Alexandria on October 29, this pioneering event captivated an assembly of around 150 distinguished guests, including Mayor Justin Wilson and other notable community leaders. The Genesis of a Visionary Journey The narrative of this extraordinary event traces back to 2019, a pivotal year in the life of Silhouette Angela Harris, wife of Brother Christopher Harris. Christopher, a 2016 initiate of the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., has been a distinguished member of the Alexandria community, serving as a former Alexandria Branch NAACP President and a current Alexandria City School Board Member. Angela's life took an unexpected turn just five months into her marriage, following a surgical procedure to remove a brain tumor that resulted in complete vision loss. This lifealtering experience sowed the seeds for what would eventually blossom into the IMperfeKtlymade Foundation. Shattering Boundaries with a Blind Fashion Show Almost four years later, Angela, as the founder of the IMperfeKtlymade Foundation, brought to life a visionary concept: a blind fashion show that transcended societal norms and dismantled stereotypes. This event was not just a fashion show; it was a clarion call for the visually impaired community to embrace new challenges and defy conventional limits.

Feeding Hope: The AlexandriaFairfax Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi's Vital Role in NOVA Project GiveBack A Decade of Dedication to Community Nourishment Since its inception in 2009, the AlexandriaFairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has been at the forefront of the annual Northern Virginia Project GiveBack (NOVA PGB) Thanksgiving Community Food Drive. This ambitious initiative, rooted in the noble cause of engaging corporate entities and professionals in local community support, has witnessed remarkable growth and profound impact over the years. From Humble Beginnings to Far-reaching Influence What began as an effort to provide meals to 50 families rapidly blossomed into a major community endeavor.

In 2010, the Alumni Chapter extended its benevolent reach to the families along the Route 1 corridor of Northern Virginia. This expansion laid the groundwork for the formal establishment of NOVA PGB in 2011, complete with its first committee operating as a pivotal satellite location. The expansion was more than just geographical; it was a magnet for collaboration and participation. Organizations like the Fairfax Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and numerous active community members from the Alexandria/Fairfax County region joined the cause, enriching the initiative with their involvement.

A Milestone Achievement in Community Service Traditionally held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, NOVA PGB has evolved into a cornerstone event in Northern Virginia. On November 18, 2023, under the astute leadership of Committee Chair Brother Charles Parker, Jr, the event reached a new zenith, providing nourishment to nearly 750 families. The outreach extended from Fredericksburg, VA in the south to Reston, VA in the west. This remarkable feat was made possible by the dedication of over 200 volunteers and the generous contributions exceeding $30,000 from various groups. A Testament to the Power of Collective Effort NOVA PGB is an integral part of Project GiveBack, which coordinates annual Thanksgiving Food Distributions across Washington, DC, Southern Maryland, and Northern Virginia. In 2023, Project GiveBack collectively supported over 4,300 families, demonstrating the immense impact of these community initiatives. Operating under the Alexandria-Fairfax Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund (AF-KSEF), NOVA PGB uses the AF Multipurpose Facility as its operational hub. This strategic use of resources underscores the chapter's pivotal role in fostering community well-being and philanthropy.

A Stalwart in Conservation and Fraternity - A Tribute to a Life Extraordinarily Lived In the heart of the Arkansas Delta, a star was born on April 20, 1949. Hannibal R. Bolton, the tenth child in a family of eleven, grew up in the humble surroundings of Crawfordville, Arkansas, under the nurturing guidance of Chester and Sarah Bolton. Little did anyone know, this young boy would grow to be a cornerstone in the field of wildlife conservation and a beacon in the community of Kappa Alpha Psi. A Foundation Built on Education and Fraternity The year 1968 marked a pivotal moment for Hannibal - his initiation into the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), known then as AM&N College. This initiation was more than just a ceremonial passage; it was the kindling of a lifelong commitment to fraternity and brotherhood. His academic thirst led him to earn a Bachelor of Science from UAPB and later pursue graduate studies at Ohio State University. Here, he delved into Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries at Stone Laboratory, located on the serene Put-In-Bay Island. Hannibal's pursuit of knowledge didn't stop there. He further honed his leadership skills with a certification from the prestigious Harvard University. A Career Defined by Impact and Leadership Hannibal's professional journey is a testament to his dedication and excellence. His career spanned over four decades, culminating in his role as the Assistant Director for the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program at the Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C.

Here, he was instrumental in administering crucial federal grant programs like the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Programs, State and Tribal Wildlife Grants, and the Coastal Impact Assistance Program, funneling substantial support to conservation efforts across the nation. Before reaching this zenith, Hannibal served as the Chief of the Division of Fish & Wildlife Management and Habitat Restoration. His vision and leadership expanded several critical programs, including founding the National Fish Habitat Action Plan. A Legacy Beyond Professional Achievements Hannibal's commitment to service and fraternity was unparalleled. As a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and a Golden Heritage Member of the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter, he embodied the values of his fraternity. His involvement extended to the FAAM Masonic Lodge #161, the American Fishery Society, and the UAPB National Alumni Association. A Life Celebrated and Remembered Hannibal's journey came to a close on September 10, 2023, but his legacy endures. He is fondly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Verlee, his daughters Angela and Sarah, his three grandchildren, his siblings, and a close-knit circle of friends and fraternity brothers. As we reflect on Hannibal R. Bolton's life, we see a tapestry of dedication, leadership, and fraternity. His story is not just one of personal achievements but of a legacy that deeply resonated with and profoundly influenced the fields of fisheries, wildlife restoration, and the lives of those who knew him.

He majored in Chemistry at Wayne State University, later obtaining an MBA, and was actively involved in Kappa Alpha Psi since his initiation in 1953. John's professional life as a chemist and in human resources was marked by pioneering roles and leadership. He influenced the HR field significantly, demonstrated by his chairmanship of SHRM and the MHRA Diversity Award named in his honor. Within Kappa Alpha Psi, his commitment earned him recognitions like the "Legends of Kappa" Award and the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter Service Award.
