Ground Control

Aerial imagery is captured & processed at nadir resolutions of 2 - 7 5 cm GSD (pixel size) or better Street-level capture resolutions are sub-cm GSD (pixel size)

3 pixel or better (in most cases we aim for 2-pixel RMSE as a horizontal accuracy standard)

OBJ, FBX, Cesium 3D Tiles, SLPK (additional formats may be available)

▪ Aerial Images are captured from xed-wing aircraft and/or helicopter and street-level data is captured on ground

▪ Models undergo QA and clean-up to provide the accuracy and quality promised

▪ Data is controlled by ground survey to ensure spatial accuracy

Ground control is recommended to ensure spatial accuracy of the data Aerometrex can work with survey points supplied by the client, provided they meet the required specications for aerial survey (details can be supplied separately on request)

3D Building Models (LODs)

A 3D Building Model, also known as LOD (Level of Detail) Model is a three-dimensional representation of a building with a varying degree of detail They are widely used in sectors such as urban planning, architecture, and geospatial analysis to tailor the level of detail to specic use cases, balancing precision with eciency

In geospatial applications, LOD models allow for scalable visualisation and analysis, enabling users to adapt data complexity based on use cases, computational resources, and viewing scale A key feature of LOD models is the ability to attach data to individual models, allowing for the models to be enriched with relevant metadata such as building IDs, dimensions, land use classication, energy use and more

Open ArcGIS and create a new Global Scene for your project

Select “Add Data” from the Map tab and click “From Path ” Then, enter the provided URL and login credentials

The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) are Queensland’s lead agency for spatial information Land and Spatial Information is responsible for acquiring, creating and maintaining foundation spatial datasets, including imagery (aerial, drone and satellite) and elevation (including raw las, digital elevation models and contours)

The Cross River Rail project had an immediate need for a data set to support stakeholder engagement, simulations, community consultation and project planning activities Being one of Queensland Government’s highest priorities, the required datasets were to be of the highest quality The nal product had to be free from cloud, smoke, haze, cloud shadow and processing distortions As part of the project, Aerometrex delivered normal resolution & high-resolution 3D mesh models, in addition to a 2D orthophoto derived from the capture and metadata for each deliverable

“A combination of the 3D layers and gamication allows you to literally walk around the model before it gets built and make decisions using visualisation – decisions linked to crowd movement, disability access, etc Using the 3D model and timelapse, you can visualise the development over time and bring the project to life; you can see what the nal product will look like and where the project currently stands.”

The CRRDA project really was a rst of its kind in Australia where BIM, GIS and 3D modelling have been fully integrated on a major infrastructure project and across multiple use cases

A key learning that has been stated by the CRRDA team, is to acquire the 3D modelling early, so it can be used consistently across the project lifecycle and not just as a sales and marketing tool for the project These lessons have now been taken on board and used for similar projects across the state
