Image Resolution (GSD)
Accuracy (RMSE)
Data Formats for 3D Model (costs may vary depending on formats chosen)
Approach
Ground Control
Aerial imagery is captured & processed at nadir resolutions of 2 - 7 5 cm GSD (pixel size) or better Street-level capture resolutions are sub-cm GSD (pixel size)
3 pixel or better (in most cases we aim for 2-pixel RMSE as a horizontal accuracy standard)
OBJ, FBX, Cesium 3D Tiles, SLPK (additional formats may be available)
▪ Aerial Images are captured from xed-wing aircraft and/or helicopter and street-level data is captured on ground
▪ Models undergo QA and clean-up to provide the accuracy and quality promised
▪ Data is controlled by ground survey to ensure spatial accuracy
Ground control is recommended to ensure spatial accuracy of the data Aerometrex can work with survey points supplied by the client, provided they meet the required speci cations for aerial survey (details can be supplied separately on request)

A 3D Building Model, also known as LOD (Level of Detail) Model is a three-dimensional representation of a building with a varying degree of detail They are widely used in sectors such as urban planning, architecture, and geospatial analysis to tailor the level of detail to speci c use cases, balancing precision with e ciency
In geospatial applications, LOD models allow for scalable visualisation and analysis, enabling users to adapt data complexity based on use cases, computational resources, and viewing scale A key feature of LOD models is the ability to attach data to individual models, allowing for the models to be enriched with relevant metadata such as building IDs, dimensions, land use classi cation, energy use and more
LOD models often follow a standardised hierarchy, with increasing complexity

LOD 0
Flat, 2D representations like terrain or building footprints
LOD 1
Simplistic 3D models, often block shapes
LOD 2
Enhanced detail, including roof shapes and textures
LOD 3
High-detail architectural models with windows, facades
Integrating LODs with reality meshes enhances both performance and functionality Reality meshes provide visual realism, while LODs add structure, data, and analytical power Together, they enable applications ranging from large-scale city planning to detailed engineering work ows, creating a uni ed solution for geospatial and 3D modelling needs.

Provide realistic representation facilitating simulations, visual impact analysis, large-scale urban planning, and infrastructure projects
Ensure easy sharing, collaboration, and integration with existing systems and GIS work ows assisting reliable spatial analysis

Optimise performance, reducing computational load while retaining critical details
Enhance visualisation for stakeholder presentations and public engagement

An unclassi ed point cloud delivers additional data that users can classify, measure, and extract insights from according to their speci c project needs

With multiple captures, analyse change over time for a range of assets. This can especially be useful for regulatory planning and management.

A true orthophoto is a uniform, map-accurate image where every pixel is in its correct ground position, enabling precise measurements and con dent decision-making Unlike standard Orthomosaics, which can suffer from occlusions and displacement around vertical structures, true Orthos provide a clean, top-down view where buildings, infrastructure and features are presented without tilt or duplication - making them far more reliable for urban planning, engineering design, asset management and GIS integration

The NSW Spatial Digital Twin: incorporating one of the largest 3D modelling projects ever undertaken Read Case Study

“The high availability of aggregated data will help with planning future development Using the digital twin, we can model where we put the roads, hospitals, schools, etc with precision planning like we’ve never done before This is truly transformational technology and the best thing about it is that it’s open source – industry can use it, councils can use it, everybody can get involved and build this asset together for all of us

Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME): 3D Modelling to Support the Cross River Rail Project
Read Case Study
The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) are Queensland’s lead agency for spatial information Land and Spatial Information is responsible for acquiring, creating and maintaining foundation spatial datasets, including imagery (aerial, drone and satellite) and elevation (including raw las, digital elevation models and contours)
The Cross River Rail project had an immediate need for a data set to support stakeholder engagement, simulations, community consultation and project planning activities Being one of Queensland Government’s highest priorities, the required datasets were to be of the highest quality The nal product had to be free from cloud, smoke, haze, cloud shadow and processing distortions As part of the project, Aerometrex delivered normal resolution & high-resolution 3D mesh models, in addition to a 2D orthophoto derived from the capture and metadata for each deliverable

“A combination of the 3D layers and gami cation allows you to literally walk around the model before it gets built and make decisions using visualisation – decisions linked to crowd movement, disability access, etc Using the 3D model and timelapse, you can visualise the development over time and bring the project to life; you can see what the nal product will look like and where the project currently stands.”
Graeme Newton, CEO, Cross River Rail Delivery Authority (CRRDA)
The CRRDA project really was a rst of its kind in Australia where BIM, GIS and 3D modelling have been fully integrated on a major infrastructure project and across multiple use cases
A key learning that has been stated by the CRRDA team, is to acquire the 3D modelling early, so it can be used consistently across the project lifecycle and not just as a sales and marketing tool for the project These lessons have now been taken on board and used for similar projects across the state

With Aerometrex 3D, users can visualise change, analyse scenarios like ooding or erosion, perform accurate volume analysis for stockpile management and earthworks, and communicate effectively with stakeholders - all within a seamless spatial environment that supports better decision-making and response planning.
