Stories from bexley members Launching an online business By, Mark. My business which I first set up with my father is to sell old things that interest people and remind them of things in their past These might be football shirts or records or Harry Potter bits and pieces. The website is called Memorabilia Items. These are items that customers like to collect. We might also design and sell mugs and t shirts. Even with a disability you can set up a business have a think about what you could do and have a go. When you run a business, you need to keep all your money matters written down. There are sites that can help you with this e.g. quick books. This app helps you keep track of your money. With a selling business you can use things like eBay to help you find more people to buy your stock. You also need space to store stock.
My favourite story, I want to share it with you….

I went to watch aladdin, the show in a london theatre. I bought the aladdin book and I enjoy my day out with my mum and sister’s too. We went somewhere to have dinner after.

I have a funny story to share, the other day I went out with my dad. We had some felt to pick up for his job. But we had a flat tyre so we tried to find a garage. The Bexleyheath one was shut when we got there, so we had to turn round and come to the one up the road. The man fixed a new tyre. Then we went over to Maidstone. We got out the van to pick up the delivery. That was when he noticed that he had another flat tyre! We went to the second garage and they fixed another new tyre for us. I was waiting on the side of the motor way in the rain for my dad to tighten the spare wheel up. So that we could get there.
The van was full with heavy things so we had to be careful. We then picked up more things for my dads roofing job. The road was full stones and bumpy and this is when we realised we had another flat tyre. This time the man pumped up they tyre and we drive home. The next day we had changed all the tyres on the van. We started yesterday with 4 tyres and ended up with one by one less. I hope this story has made you laugh. I only joined him for a change of scenery but we ended up changing tyres.

Lock down and me

I haven't got much to say but I can say this. I feel like this virus is keeping me apart from friends and my partner. It's doing a great job. Way to go corona! I miss how it was before and having a cracked ankle, without a dad,
and a sore hand ✋
sometimes I think I might be slipping into a depression
and sometimes I'm ok.
I can't function well without my partner and friends. I look forward to a normal life again without my crutch, the masks and the lockdown to worry about. But on the plus I've been listening to heart and doing coloured by numbers, watching films and I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday before lockdown made its way here. And also I had friends over to have a Christmas drink. And I've been walking up and down with my crutch in the garden for exercise. I really can’t wait to see you all soon!

Duncan’s woodwork story

I like to talk to other bexley speak up members and the general public about my passion for woodwork. People enjoy seeing the photos of all the different things that I make and sell. Its good to see a visual example of my work from my mobile phone. I like to spread the news about my woodwork by word of mouth. At the moment is by whatsapp to my friends and to other dog walkers in the park. Although the local greengrocer also sells my wood work. I have a really good relationship with my green grocer. He gives me all the old fruit and vegetables to use in my allotment in the compost bin that he cant sell.
For me nature is a big passion and woodwork is a big part of that. I think its important to recycle and I am always on the lookout for useable old wood that people might have thrown away in skips. I always ask permission to take it home and make something out of it. I have been working with wood since I was a teenager. I have built up my skills and learnt to make many different things out of wood. So far I can build bird boxes, bird tables, insect boxes, open bird feeders and butterfly boxes. Not forgetting coasters and tea light candle holders which are made from recycled christmas trees.
As nature is important to me I try to make things that give nature a home. The insect boxes have branches from christmas trees and bamboo inside them. They have big and small holes drilled inside logs to help attract the insects and bees. The butterfly boxes that I make have been painted different colours to attracted butterfly’s. The colours they are most attracted to are red, yellow, purple, white and orange. They like pollen nectar to feed on and colourful flowers. I spent time putting all this information together to create the best home for nature.
All the money that I get from selling woodwork goes towards looking after Forest my dog. Forest is a loyal and loving dog. The money is well spent on his vet bills. Thank you for taking time to read my story. I hope this has inspired you to do something more with your own hobbies and interests. Cooking recipe

this time I would like to show you how to make….chocolate chip cakes!
Ingredients 75g butter 125g caster sugar How to make chocolate chip cakes ….. 1.
put oven on 180’C or gas mark 4
2.
mix butter and sugar together, until fluffy
3.
beat in the eggs to the mix
4.
fold in all the flour into the mix too
5.
mix all together well
6.
put a tea spoon of the mix into the bottom of each cupcake case.
7.
put into oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown
8.
put out to cool on the side
9.
now time to eat and enjoy!
2 eggs 125g self raising flour 500g chocolate chips 10/12 cupcake cases (or however many chocolate chips you want) to put in)
